Stamp Review Crew -- Forever Fern

Banner

Hello!  Welcome to the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop featuring the Forever Fern stamp set.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

The Stamp Review Crew is an international group of Stampin' Up! Demonstrators who gather for a blog hop the first, third, and (sometimes the fifth) Mondays of the month to review a single stamp set.  The number of participants varies from hop to hop, but the ideas are plentiful as we take a stamp set through its paces.  By the time you've traveled through the hop, you are sure to find a number of innovative ways to use the featured stamp set.  So sit back, relax, and get ready to start pinning ideas to your Pinterest board!

To see the line up of artists for this week's hop, click here.  If you've already joined the hop and are traveling forward, you've arrived from Cindy's blog where you were presented with an amazing project to inspire your creativity.  If you're traveling backwards through the hop, you'll be traveling to Bronwyn's blog to see her beautiful project.

I've been wrapped up with Christmas for the last couple of months so I thought it would be fun to use the Forever Fern stamp set to create a card with Fall colors and some sparkle.

ForeverFern_ToAFriendWhoMakesMeSmile

This card begins with a panel of Vellum cardstock.  Stampin' Blends Markers in the colors of Dark Cajun Craze, Dark Cinnamon Cider, Dark Daffodil Delight, and Dark Pumpkin Pie were scribbled over the panel and then saturated with spritzes of 99% alcohol.  The vellum was tilted a bit while the alcohol was still liquid to move the colors a bit (but not enough to let them turn muddy) and then allowed to dry.  [Tip:  Work in a well-ventilated area.  You can speed up the drying time by using the Heat Tool on the LOW setting with the tip of the tool 8-10 inches from the surface of the vellum.]  Once the vellum was dry, then alcohol was lightly spritzed over the vellum again to create the bubbles.  To do this, hold the spritzer 10-12 inches above the surface of the vellum and make a short burst of alcohol mist.  Once the vellum is dry, adhere the vellum to a panel of Basic White cardstock.

The Vellum/Basic White panels were then adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Cajun Craze cardstock and then adhered at the center of the Crushed Curry card front.

The large leafy branch, from the Forever Flourishing dies, was used to die cut a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock and a piece of Gold Metallic paper from the Gold & Rose Gold Metallic Specialty Paper.  The Gold die was adhered to the Cajun Craze die using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive with the two pieces slightly offsetting each other to allow the Cajun Craze to create a drop shadow for the Gold.  The dies were adhered to the vellum using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive with the stem of the die pointing toward the upper right corner of the vellum and the topmost leaf of the die pointing toward the lower left corner of the vellum.

Two pieces of Cajun Craze cardstock were die cut using the banner die from the Tasteful Labels dies.  The "to a friend that makes me smile" greeting was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Cajun Craze ink and die cut with the large lace-edge circle, also from the Tasteful Labels dies.  Banner tails were cut into the left and right ends of a narrow piece of Gold Metallic paper.  The greeting label was created by adhering the gold banner behind the center of the circular greeting label and then adhering the Cajun Craze banners behind the gold banner (the Cajun Craze banners will overlap a bit).  The greeting was adhered near the lower left corner of the vellum with the bottom edge of the circular greeting 3/16" above the bottom edge of the vellum and the left edge of the circular greeting 5/8" from the left edge of the vellum.

The rounded leaves stem image was stamped at the lower right corner of a Basic White panel using Cinnamon Cider ink.  The image was cleaned and then reinked with Pumpkin Pie ink and stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock.  The image was cleaned and then reinked with Cajun Craze ink and stamped on another piece of Basic White cardstock.  The two pieces of Basic White cardstock were die cut with the corresponding die from the Forever Flourishing dies.  The Pumpkin Pie die cut image was adhered at the the lower right corner and the Cajun Craze die cut image was adhered at the upper left corner of the Basic White panel.  A narrow strip of Gold Metallic paper was adhered along the bottom edge of the Basic White panel with the right and left edges of the strip flush with the right and left edges of the panel and the bottom edge of the strip 1/16" above the bottom edge of the panel.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The rounded leaf image was randomly stamped across the envelope flap of a Medium Basic White Envelope using Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, and Pumpkin Pie inks.  Tip:  Place a piece of scrap paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to keep the stamping confined to the envelope flap.

I hope you've been inspired by the project I made using the Forever Fern stamp set.  Card Measurements, Supplies I used to make this card, and a photos of a few other cards I've made using the Forever Fern stamp set are provided below.

Whimsical Trees -- Let Your Heart Be Light

Hello!

It's been a month since I last posted and I'm sorry I haven't been able to post but it has all been for a good cause.  The last two months I've been cutting paper, die cutting, embossing, and packing card kits for my annual Christmas card classes.  I had the first two classes this past weekend and I'm thrilled to report that things went really well.  The folks who attended made 15 cards -- 3 cards each of 5 different designs.  Two of the designs have already been featured in previous blog posts and you can see them by clicking here and here.  I'll be sharing the remaining designs with you in the next week or so.

The concensus from the first two classes is that this card is the fan favorite.  When you have a set of papers like the Peaceful Place Specialty Designer Series Paper, you don't need to do much to enhance the beautiful images with their silver accents.  So, for this card, I let the paper do the talking.

WhimsicalTrees1_LetYourHeartBeLight

This card begins with a panel of Peaceful Prints Specialty Designer Series Paper matted with a slightly larger panel of Basic Gray cardstock.  The panels were adhered to the Smoky Slate card front.

A piece of Shimmery White cardstock was die cut using the 2-5/8" circle die, from the Layering Circles dies.  The two solid tree with long trunks dies, from the Christmas Trees dies were used to die cut 3 pieces of foil from the Silver Foil Specialty Pack:  the thin trees for the darker shades of foil and the wider tree for the lightest shade of foil.  The trees were adhered to the die cut circle using Mini Glue Dots and the trunks of the trees that overhang the bottom edge of the circle were trimmed with Paper Snips.  The circle was adhered to the Designer Series Paper panel with the bottom edge of the circle 7/8" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper and the right edge of the circle flush with the right edge of the Designer Series Paper.

The "Let Your Heart Be Light" greeting, from the Whimsical Trees stamp set, was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The greeting was adhered to a Basic Gray banner created with the Banners Pick A Punch with the right edges of the greeting and banner flush and the banner tails pointing to the left.  The banner was adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals with the right edge of the banner flush with the right edge of the Designer Series Paper and the bottom edge of the banner 7/8" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper.

Three Rhinestone Basic Jewels were scattered among the die cut trees on the Shimmery White circle and a bow tied from the Silver cord in the Simply Elegant Trim was adhered to one of the trees using a rolled up Mini Glue Dot.

The "May The Love Of The Season Warm Your Home & Fill Your Heart" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of a panel of Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The tall ornamented tree was stamped at the lower left corner of the panel using Basic Gray ink and the short ornamented tree was stamped to the right of the taller tree using Smoky Slate ink.  The panel was adhered at the inside sentiment area of the card base.

A piece of Peaceful Place Specialty Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap of a Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim the excess paper away using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

With 30 people making 3 each of this card, I would have had to purchase quite a lot of the Designer Series Paper if I could only get 12 cards out of each pack of paper.  To solve this problem, I chose two other pieces of this beautiful paper for the card fronts -- and each person made one of each of the three different pieces of Designer Series Paper.  The only difference was the color of the mat behind the Designer Series Paper and the banner for the greeting.

I wish that the photographs could have picked up how the silver accents in the papers make these cards so special.  In any case, you can see that the same basic card design is used for all three cards.  Isn't it amazing how the mood of the card changes with the different paper used for the background?

I'll be back soon with another card from the Christmas card classes.
