Holly Jolly Wishes -- It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Hello!

One of the most recognizable symbols of Christmas, and Winter in general, is the snowflake.  We don't see snowflakes in East Central Florida; however, most folks in Florida arrived from other places and most of THOSE places are very familiar with the sparkly, fluffy flakes.  In fact, I was born in one of those states that have snow and I've seen pictures of me standing in snow as a very young child.  Then my family moved to Florida and Winter became green and warm until I joined the US Navy.  I saw snow in the Rockies near Lake Tahoe, in the hills and valleys of Maryland, the foothills of the Appalachians, and coastal Virginia.  After I left the Navy, vacations took me to the Colorado Rockies and the Inside Passage of Alaska.  In every place, the snow was spectacular, but I was definitely NOT a fan of the cold and slush, slipping and sliding.

I'll stick with portraying snowflakes on Christmas cards.

HollyJollyWishes_ItsTheMostWonderfulTime

One of the items you may not have noticed in the July - December Mini Catalog is the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks.  I just love masks as they are so versatile.  You can sponge color, brush color, mist color, or use embossing paste.  For this card I used the snowflake mask with Shimmery White Embossing Paste.

To begin, a panel of Misty Moonlight cardstock was placed on the Silicone Craft Sheet.  The snowflake mask was placed over the cardstock and repositionable tape used to hold the mask in place over the cardstock and Silicone Craft Sheet.  Shimmery White Embossing Paste was spread over the mask onto the cardstock and smoothed flat with the Palette Knife.  Note that you need to work quickly as the embossing paste is drying as you work.  In addition, keep the lid secured on the embossing paste while working to keep it from drying out.  Immediately remove the mask by lifting straight up and then quickly wash off the mask, Palette Knife, and Silicone Craft Sheet to remove the excess embossing paste.  If this isn't done immediately, it will NEVER come off of the mask and knife and will be difficult to remove from the craft sheet.  Set the cardstock aside to dry.  Depending upon the thickness of the embossing paste, the paste should be dry within 30 minutes.

The embossed panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Soft Succulent cardstock.  A piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock was die cut with the 1-3/4" x 3-1/8" scalloped rectangle from the Scalloped Contour dies.  The die cut was adhered near the lower right corner of the embossed panel with the right side of the die cut 3/8" from the right side of the embossed panel and the bottom edge of the die cut 5/8" above the bottom edge of the embossed panel.  A piece of Soft Succulent Open Weave Ribbon was wrapped around the panels and tied into a bow near the right side of the embossed panel.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-3/8" above the bottom edge of the embossed panel and the knot of the bow is 7/8" from the left edge of the embossed panel.  The panels were adhered at the center of the card front.

The "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" greeting, from the Holly Jolly Wishes stamp set, was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Misty Moonlight ink.  The greeting was matted with a slightly larger piece of Soft Succulent cardstock and adhered at the center of the Evening Evergreen die cut using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Three small Rhinestone Basic Jewels were adhered to the card front to create a visual triangle around the greeting.

HollyJollyWishes_ItsTheMostWonderfulTime_Inside

The snowflake mask was placed over a piece of Basic White cardstock and adhered in place with repositionable tape or Washi tape.  A Blending Brush and Misty Moonlight ink were used to apply ink to the cardstock through the mask.  Because the intent is to create a soft background, ink the Blending Brush, brush off on a scrap piece of paper, and then apply the brush to the mask and cardstock in a light circular motion.  The snowflake panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" sentiment was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Evening Evergreen ink.  The sentiment was matted with a slightly larger piece of Soft Succulent cardstock and adhered at the upper center of the snowflake panel.

HollyJollyWishes_ItsTheMostWonderfulTime_Envelope

If you compare the snowflakes on the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope to the snowflake panel for the inside sentiment area of the card, you can see the difference between a soft background and a strong background.  The difference is the amount of ink on the Blending Brush and the amount of ink applied to the cardstock through the mask.

For the envelope flap, a piece of scrap paper was placed between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope.  The snowflake mask was placed over the envelope and held in place with repositionable tape or Washi Tape.  The Blending Brush was used to apply Misty Moonlight ink through the mask to the envelope flap.

I'll be back soon with another project using a mask from the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks and the Holly Jolly Wishes stamp set.

Artistically Inked -- Happy Birthday

Hi There!

Today's post presents another card featuring elements of the Expressions in Ink Product Suite.  I really love how this card turned out.  The difficulty was in photographing the card because of the shine from the gold stripes on the Designer Series Paper.  Like the previous card, I stayed with a simple design and let the contrast between the Designer Series Paper and the die cut do the work.

ArtisticallyInked_HappyBirthday

This card begins with a panel of Gold striped Expressions in Ink Specialty Designer Series Paper matted with a slightly larger panel of Basic Black cardstock.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Thick Basic White card base.

Adhesive Sheets were adhered to the back of three pieces of Basic Black cardstock.  The cardstock pieces were die cut using the flower grouping die from the Artistic dies.  The die cuts were adhered one on top of the other and then to the upper left corner of the Designer Series Paper panel.  Points of the left and top edges of the die cut are flush with the left and top edges of the panel.

The "Happy Birthday" greeting, from the Artistically Inked stamp set, was stamped on a strip of Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  A slightly wider strip of Basic Black cardstock was adhered behind the greeting strip.  The top, left, and right edges of the Basic White strip are flush with the top, left, and right edges of the Basic Black strip leaving a narrow strip of Basic Black cardstock visible below the greeting strip.

ArtisticallyInked_HappyBirthday_Inside

A strip of Gold striped Designer Series Paper was matted with a slightly larger mat of Basic Black cardstock.  The left and right edges of the Designer Series Paper are flush with the left and right edges of the Basic Black cardstock and centered between the top and bottom edges of the cardstock.  The strips were adhered across the upper center of the inside sentiment area of the card base with the left and right edges of the strips flush with the left and right edges of the card base and the top edge of the Basic Black strip 1-1/8" below the fold at the top edge of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The "Wishing you a year of Magical Moments & wonderful memories" sentiment and adjacent star and heart images on the Messages stamp were inked with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock.  The sentiment was die cut with the Messages die lining up the cardstock with the corresponding position on the die.  Note that the small heart and star adjacent to the sentiment help you to position the sentiment in the die.  The sentiment was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock and adhered at the center of the Gold striped Designer Series Paper strip.

ArtisticallyInked_HappyBirthday_Envelope

A piece of Gold striped Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim away the excess paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

Sometimes the simplest designs have the greatest visual impact.

Artistically Inked -- Thanks

Hello!

I have been blessed with some amazing friends who are also some of my best customers.  Thanks to their generosity, I have been able to maintain my Stampin' Up! business through all the craziness of the pandemic.  I miss seeing them all so much and look forward to the time when we can come together to create in person.  I am currently planning to make that happen very soon.  I can't wait!

I have been wanting to feature the Expressions in Ink product suite since the Annual Catalog launched in May; but backorder of the awesome Expressions in Ink Specialty Designer Series Paper had me waiting to present you with project ideas until it could actually be ordered.  Now that the paper is finally in stock, I decided to use some elements of the product suite to make some Thank You cards for customer orders.  When the Designer Series Paper is this beautiful, you want to let it take center stage.

ArtisticallyInked_Thanks

A number of the sheets of paper in the Expressions in Ink Specialty Designer Series Paper pack carry the design across the center of the paper leaving a large area of white space above and below the color design.  I chose one of those sheets, placed the paper in the Stampin' Trimmer so that the color lies below the cutting path and cut the paper in half to create two 6" x 12" pieces of paper.  Then I cut each of the 6" x 12" pieces into three 3-7/8" x 6" pieces.  Finally, 7/8" was cut off the white area end of each of the 3-7/8" x 6" pieces, leaving a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" panel.  Using this process, you end up with panels and a greeting strip for 6 cards.  The great thing is that each of the 6 panels is completely different so every card is unique.

The 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Just Jade cardstock and then adhered at the center of the Pear Pizzazz card front.

The long leaf stem die from the Artistic dies was used to die cut a piece of Gold Foil Sheets.  The leaf die was adhered along the right hand side of the Designer Series Paper panel using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.

The "thanks" greeting, from the Artistically Inked stamp set, was stamped on the 3-7/8" x 7/8" white strip, cut down to 7/8" x 2-1/2", using Just Jade ink.  The greeting was matted first with a slightly larger piece of Gold Foil Sheets and then with a slightly larger piece of Just Jade cardstock.  The greeting was adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals with the left side of the Just Jade greeting mat 3/16" from the left side of the Designer Series Paper panel and the bottom edge of the Just Jade greeting mat 1-5/16" above the bottom edge of the panel.

ArtisticallyInked_Thanks_Inside

One of the images in the Artistically Inked stamp set is a background stamp that can be used to create the ink swirls of color similar to those on the Designer Series Paper.  For the inside of the card, the background image was stamped with Pear Pizzazz ink along the bottom edge of a Basic White panel with the left edge of the stamp near the left edge of the panel.  The stamp was cleaned and then stamped over the Pear Pizzazz image, rotating the stamp image 180 degrees, using Just Jade ink with the right side of the image near the right side of the panel.

A narrow strip of Gold Foil Sheets was adhered across the stamping with the right and left edges of the strip flush with the right and left edges of the panel and the bottom edge of the strip 7/16" above the bottom edge of the panel.

The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

ArtisticallyInked_Thanks_Envelope

The background image was stamped across the bottom edge of the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  To do this, place a scrap piece of paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope.  Stamp the background stamp twice along the bottom edge of the envelope flap using Pear Pizzazz ink, rotating the stamp 180 degrees for the second stamping.  Clean the stamp and repeat the process with Just Jade ink.  I really like how the lighter color is still visible because of the design of the stamp image and the way that the stamp image was carved to create light and dark areas.

It's really hard to convey just how beautiful the Expressions in Ink Specialty Designer Series Paper is!  The fronts of all the papers have gold embossing threaded through the color swirls.  The reverse sides have a coordinating color swirl.  I have to say that it's hard to decide which side of the paper to use...all 12 patterns are just stunning!

A piece of Basic Black cardstock was die cut using the 3" scallop circle die from the Layering Circles dies.  A piece of Be Dazzling 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper was die cut with the 2-5/8" circle die.  A piece of Real Red cardstock was die cut using the 1-7/8" circle die.  The Be Dazzling circle was adhered at the center of the Basic Black scalloped circle and the Real Red circle was adhered at the center of the Be Dazzling circle.

The "Oh What Fun" leaping deer was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The deer was punched with the Deer Builder punch and adhered at the center of the circles using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

A snowflake from the Wonderful Snowflakes was adhered at the lower right corner of the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper with the longest points of the snowflake on the right and bottom flush with the right and bottom edges of the Basic Black card front.  A second snowflake was cut in half.  One half was adhered near the upper right corner of the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper with one of the long points extending above the top edge of the panels to be flush with the top edge of the card base and the long points at the right side of the snowflake 1/8" from the right side of the Designer Series Paper.  The remaining half snowflake was adhered along the left edge of the Designer Series Paper with the long points of the snowflake flush with the left side of the card base.

The circles were adhered to the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper with the top edge of the Basic Black scalloped circle 5/8" below the top edge of the Designer Series Paper and the left and right sides of the scalloped circle 3/8" from the left and right sides of the Designer Series Paper.

A large, medium, and small Rhinestone Basic Jewels were adhered to the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper to create a visual triangle around the circles.

A piece of Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim away the excess paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

I love the simple design of this card.  I would definitely consider this design where I needed to make a large stack of cards for a specific event...like Christmas.

Peaceful Deer -- Merry Christmas

Hi There!

There's lots going on in the Stampin' Up! world right now.  The July - December Mini Catalog AND Sale-A-Bration launched on August 3rd.  This is a great opportunity for you as you have the opportunity to earn some great FREE Sale-A-Bration items that coordinate with some of the fun items in the July - December Mini Catalog.  Today's post is a great example.

The Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper is available for FREE during Sale-A-Bration with a merchandise order of $50 USD.  The paper was designed to coordinate with the Peaceful Deer stamp set, but the great prints are just a wonderful set of backgrounds for a wide variety of Christmas cards.  You can see one of the prints used on the card front, inside the card, and on the envelope flap.

PeacefulDeer_MerryChristmas

This card begins with a panel of Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper matted with a slightly larger panel of Basic Black cardstock.  A piece of Gold Shimmer Ribbon was adhered across the panels with the ends folded to the back of the panels and adhered in place.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-1/4" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Gray Granite card front.

Balmy Blue ink was applied to the upper 2/3 of a piece of Basic White cardstock to create a cloudy sky with the assistance of a torn piece of scrap paper and a Blending Brush.  To do this, place the torn piece of scrap paper across the cardstock, ink the Blending Brush with Balmy Blue ink, and then brush the ink in light circles across the torn edge of the paper.  Move the torn paper down about an inch, tilt it slightly, and apply the ink again.  Keep moving the torn paper down the cardstock until a cloudy sky is created.

Ink the largest and tallest of the pine trees with Garden Green ink, apply ink to the tree trunk with the brush tip of the Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker, and stamp the tree along the left side of the cardstock with the base of the tree 7/16" above the bottom edge of the cardstock.  Ink the larger of the two tree images with Garden Green ink, apply ink to the tree trunks with the brush tip of the Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker, and stamp the trees to the right of the tall tree with the base of the trees 5/8" above the bottom edge of the cardstock.  Ink the smaller of the two tree images with Garden Green ink, apply ink to the tree trunks with the brush tip of the Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker, and stamp the trees to the right of the larger two trees image with the base of the trees 1" above the bottom edge of the cardstock.  Ink the three tree image with Garden Green ink, apply ink to the tree trunks with the brush tip of the Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker, and stamp the trees along the right edge of the cardstock with the bottom edge of the trees 15/16" above the bottom edge of the cardstock.  Add a line of shading below the bottom edge of the trees using the side of the brush tip of a Sahara Sand Stampin' Write Marker.  Stamp the ground lines three times in the open areas of the cardstock, inking the stamp with the brush tip of the Sahara Sand Stampin' Write Marker:  once between the grouping of trees on the right and left, a second time along the right side of the cardstock 1/2" above the bottom edge of the cardstock, and a third time near the lower left of the cardstock with the left end 3/8" from the left side of the cardstock and 1/8" above the bottom edge of the cardstock.

Mat the Basic White cardstock with a slightly larger mat of Gray Granite cardstock and a slightly larger mat of Basic Black cardstock.  Adhere the panel to the cardfront with the bottom edge of the Basic Black cardstock 1/4" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper and the left and right sides of the Basic Black cardstock 3/8" from the left and right sides of the Designer Series Paper.

Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp the standing and laying down deer images on Crumb Cake cardstock.  Apply LT Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blend Marker to the inside of the ears of the deers.  Apply LT Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends Marker to the deer bodies:  for the standing deer, the face, body, and the near facing legs; for the laying deer, the face, body and the near facing legs.  Using Paper Snips, cut out the deer and adhere to the cardstock.  Place the bottom of the laying deer 1/4" above the bottom edge of the cardstock and the tail 1-1/4" from the left edge of the cardstock.  Adhere the standing deer to the left of the laying deer using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals with the tail 3/8" from the left side of the cardstock and the back hooves 1/8" above the bottom edge of the cardstock.

Using the brush tip of the Garden Green Stampin' Write Marker, ink the greenery for the neck wreath image.  Using the brush tip of the Real Red Stampin' Write Marker, ink the bow in the neck wreath image.  Huff on the stamp to remoisten the ink and stamp the image on a piece of Basic White cardstock.  Using Paper Snips, cut out the neck wreath and adhere to the neck of the standing deer.

Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp the bunny on Gray Granite cardstock.  Apply LT Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blend Marker to the inside of the near facing ear.  Apply LT Gray Granite Stampin' Blends Marker to the body and opposite ear of the bunny -- but not on the tail.  Using Paper Snips, cut out the bunny and adhere near the lower right corner of the cardstock with the bottom of the bunny 1/4" above the bottom edge of the cardstock and the back side of the bunny 3/8" from the right side of the cardstock.

Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp "Merry Christmas" on a strip of Basic White cardstock.  Cut banner tails into the right side of a strip of Real Red cardstock.  Adhere the greeting to the Real Red banner with the greeting centered between the top and bottom edges of the banner and the right end of the banner 1/16" from the right end of the banner.  Adhere the banner to the Basic White cardstock with the right end of the banner flush with the right edge of the Basic Black cardstock and the top edge of the Real Red banner 3/16" from the top edge of the Basic White cardstock.

Apply a piece of Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper to the envelope flap of a Medium Basic White Envelope.  Use Paper Snips to trim away the excess paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

The Peaceful Deer stamp set has a coordinating punch called the Deer Builder punch.  The stamp set and punch are sold as a bundle in the July - December Mini Catalog.  I'll be back early next week with a idea for using the Bundle.

Here's hoping the roofing noise will be finished tomorrow and we can return to some quiet for the weekend...as long as the current Tropical Storm stays in the Gulf of Mexico.
