Beautiful Moments -- Thinking Of You

Hello!

I had hoped to get this project posted yesterday; unfortunately, the construction stuff at the house got a little intense yesterday. Today's an off day while we wait for the inspector.  My husband is out golfing with his buddies so I have some much needed quiet time.

Stampin' Up! has been offering beautiful line image stamp sets for a number of years.  In years past we heat embossed them, colored with ink and Blending Pen or Water Brushes or Watercolor Pencils with Blending Pen or Water Brushes, or sponged color.  I enjoyed all these techniques for coloring the images, but my favorite has to be coloring with Stampin' Blends Markers.

BeautifulMoments_ThinkingOfYou

This card begins with a panel of Ombre Specialty Paper.  A 3-7/8" x 6" strip was cut from the 12" x 12" Poppy Parade sheet with the ombre colors vertical on the strip.  The lighter end of the color spectrum was cut to 3-7/8" x 5-1/8", removing the lightest part of the ombre paper from the strip.  The 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Basic Black cardstock and adhered at the center of the Thick Basic White card front.

Both sides of a piece of White Faux Linen ribbon from the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack was colored using the brush tip of the Light Bermuda Bay Stampin' Blends Marker using long strokes to minimize overlap of the brush strokes as much as possible.  The ribbon was folded in half and adhered to the ombre panel with the fold to the right and the tails to the left.  The bottom edge of the ribbon (at the fold) is 1-7/8" above the bottom edge of the ombre panel.

A panel of Thick Basic White cardstock was stamped with the adult and child image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The image was stamped a second time on a Post-It Note and cut out with Paper Snips.  The Post-It Note mask was adhered over the image stamped on the cardstock.  The horizon image was stamped across the panel (and the Post-It Note mask) using Memento Tuxedo Black.  Note that the image will need to be stamped twice if the bump in the horizon is placed between the adult and child.  The grass image was stamped three times along the bottom of the panel:  at the right and left sides and between the adult and child.  The birds image was stamped a few times near the top of the panel.

Post-It Notes were placed along the bottom of the horizon line (on top of the masks over the adult and child).  Blending Brushes and a torn piece of scrap paper were used to create the sky using Pool Party and Balmy Blue inks.  The Post-It Notes were moved and placed along the top of the horizon line (on top of the masks over the adult and child).  Blending Brushes and a torn piece of scrap paper were used to create the sandy ground using Sahara Sand and Crumb Cake inks.  The Post-It Notes along the horizon were removed.

The Post-It Note Mask over the adult and child was removed and Stampin' Blends Markers were used to color the adult and child and the weeds:

  • Adult:  Light & Dark Calypso Coral for the dress; Light & Dark Crumb Cake for the hair, Light Petal Pink & Ivory for the skin
  • Child:  Light & Dark Bermuda Bay for the dress; Light & Dark So Saffron for the hair, Light Petal Pink & Ivory for the skin
  • Weeds:  Dark Old Olive

The colored panel was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock and adhered to the card front with the right edge of the Basic Black mat 3/16" from the right edge of the ombre panel and the bottom edge of the Basic Black mat 11/16" above the bottom edge of the ombre panel.

The "Thinking of You" greeting was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The small rectangle die from the Beautiful Trees dies was used to die cut the greeting.  A slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock was used to mat the greeting.  The greeting was adhered to the colored panel with Stampin' Seal for the area over the colored panel and a stack of 2 Mini Glue Dots over the ombre panel.  The top edge of the Basic Black mat of the greeting is 5/16" below the top edge of the colored panel and the left edge of the Basic Black mat of the greeting is 7/16" from the left edge of the ombre panel.

BeautifulMoments_ThinkingOfYou_Inside

I struggled with trying to figure out an appropriate way to decorate the inside sentiment area of this card.  In the end, I think I went a bit overboard; however, the result is rather pretty.

A panel of Basic White cardstock was stamped with the horizon image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Note that the image will need to be stamped twice to cross the width of the panel.  The weeds image was stamped in a cluster along the left side of the area below the horizon line.  The birds image was stamped three times above the horizon line.  The "You're Somebody's Blessing" sentiment was stamped just below the horizon line at the right side of the panel.

Post-It Notes were placed along the top edge of the horizon line.  Blending Brushes and a torn piece of scrap paper were used to create the ground using Sahara Sand and Crumb Cake inks.  The Post-It Notes were removed and placed along the bottom edge of the horizon line.  Blending Brushes and a torn piece of scrap paper were used to create the sky using Pool Party and Balmy Blue inks.  TIP:  You can see some areas in the sky where there seem to be blobs of color.  This happens when the Blending Brush is pushed too hard onto the paper (a clear indication that I was tired when I was applying the Blending Brush to the paper).  A great way to avoid the blobs is to use a light hand with the brush and to move the brush in a circular motion beginning above the paper and gently moving down to the paper.  Another tip is to remove some of the ink from the brush right after removing the brush from the ink pad.  Swipe the brush over the ink pad a few times, swipe it on a scrap piece of paper, and then begin the process of applying the ink to the cardstock in a circular motion.

The weeds images were colored with the Dark Old Olive Stampin' Blends Marker.

A thin strip of Ombre Specialty Paper was adhered across the bottom edge of the panel with the right and left edges of the strip flush with the right and left edges of the panel and the bottom edge of the strip 1/16" above the bottom edge of the panel.

The panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Basic Black cardstock and adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

BeautifulMoments_ThinkingOfYou_Envelope

A scrap piece of paper was placed between the envelope flap and body of a Medium Basic White Envelope.  The horizon image was stamped just below center across the envelope flap using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Note that the image will need to be stamped twice to cross the width of the flap.  The weeds image was stamped in a cluster along the left side of the area below the horizon line.  The birds image was stamped twice above the horizon line.  The "Thinking Of You" sentiment was stamped above the horizon line centered between the horizon line and top of the envelope flap to the right of center.

The weeds images were colored with the Dark Old Olive Stampin' Blends Marker.

I'll see you next week, construction craziness permitting.  Have a great weekend!
