Beautiful Moments -- Collect Beautiful Moments

Hi There!

There's a lot of craziness in my life right now.  We are dealing with a whole series of issues with the house and seem to be in a perpetual construction zone.  At times like this, I want to burrow in and hide.  Since that's not an option, I go to my happy place and color.  The Beautiful Moments stamp set, with it's lovely lined images, is just perfect for coloring.

BeautifulMoments_CollectBeautifulMoments

This card begins with a panel of Fresh Freesia cardstock placed at the center of the Silicone Mat.  The polka dot template from the Basic Patterns Decorative Masks was placed over the cardstock and Silicone Mat.  Repositionable tape was used to anchor the template, ensuring that the tape does not cover the cardstock.  White Embossing Paste was spread over the cardstock using a palette knife so that the entire surface of the cardstock is covered with embossing paste.  Close the lid tightly on the embossing paste jar as once the embossing paste is exposed to air it begins to dry.  It is important to work quickly and to avoid leaving dips inside the template holes or peaks over the template holes.  Carefully remove the template as quickly as possible and take the template, palette knife and silicone mat to the sink and rinse them to remove any residual embossing paste.  Note that any embossing paste allowed to dry on any one of these items will not be able to be removed once the embossing paste dries and that's pretty much immediately.  The embossing paste on the cardstock will be completely dry in about 30 minutes.

A panel of Thick Basic White cardstock stamped with the two girls with pails image near the bottom of the panel using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The image was re-inked and stamped a second time on a Post-It Note with the bottom edge of the image over the repositionable adhesive on the back of the Post-It Note.  The image on the Post-It Note was cut out with Paper Snips and adhered over the top of the image stamped on the panel.  The horizon line image was stamped across the panel (including the Post-It Note mask).  Note that the image won't completely cross the panel from the right to the left side.  The horizon line image was re-inked and used to complete the horizon line.  Post-It Notes were adhered immediately below the horizon line.

A piece of scrap paper was torn in an uneven line.  A Blending Brush and Pool Party ink was used with the torn edge of the scrap paper to create a sky.  The process was repeated using Balmy Blue ink.  The Post-It Notes were removed along the horizon line and moved to the opposite side of the line.  A Blending Brush and Sahara Sand ink was used with the torn edge of paper to create the sandy ground.  The process was repeated using Crumb Cake ink.  The Post-It Notes along the horizon line were removed and the clumps of weeds were stamped to the right and left of the girls using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The birds image were stamped just to the left of the taller girl's head using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The left side of the birds image was inked with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamped to the right of the smaller girl's shoulder.

The Post-It Note covering the little girls was removed and the images colored using Stampin' Blends Markers:

  • Tall Girl:  Light & Dark Fresh Freesia for the dress, Bronze for the hair, Dark Pumpkin Pie for the pail, Ivory and Petal Pink for the arms, legs, and face
  • Short Girl:  Light & Dark Just Jade for the dress, Dark So Saffron for the hair, Dark Polished Pink for the pail, Ivory and Petal Pink for the arms, legs, and face
  • Weeds:  Dark Old Olive
  • Ground lines under the girls' feet:  Dark Crumb Cake

The "Collect Beautiful Moments" greeting was stamped on strip of Basic White cardstock using Just Jade ink.  The left end of the strip was punched with the rounded end slot of the Treasured Tags Pick A Punch.  The strip was adhered near the top of the panel with the right end of the strip flush with the right side of the panel and the top of the strip 1/8" below the top edge of the panel.  The panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Just Jade cardstock.

The Fresh Freesia panel with embossing paste polka dots was matted with a slightly larger panel of Just Jade cardstock.  A piece of Fresh Freesia Open Weave ribbon was wrapped around the panels and tied into a bow near the left side of the panels.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-3/4" above the bottom edge of the Fresh Freesia panel.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Thick Basic White card front.

The little girls panel was adhered at the lower right corner of the Fresh Freesia panel using Mini Glue Dots.  The bottom and right edges of the Just Jade mat of the little girls panel is 1/8" from the right and bottom edges of the Fresh Freesia panel.

BeautifulMoments_CollectBeautifulMoments_Inside

A narrow strip of Just Jade cardstock was adhered behind the top edge of a strip of Fresh Freesia patterned paper from the 2021-2023 In Color Designer Series Paper Pack.  The strips were adhered along the bottom edge of the inside sentiment area of the Thick Basic White card base with the right, left, and bottom edges of the strips flush with the right, left, and bottom edges of the card base.

BeautifulMoments_CollectBeautifulMoments_Envelope

A piece of Fresh Freesia patterned paper from the 2021-2023 In Color Designer Series Paper Pack was adhered to the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim the excess paper away using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

I have another colored panel to share with you using an image from the Beautiful Moments stamp set.  I just need to figure out the best way to display it on a card front.  I hope you'll return in a couple of days to see it!

Bamboo Beauty -- A True Friend

Hi There!

One of the first major "WOW!!" things I experienced when I became involved with papercrafting was heat embossing.  And the "WOW!!" has never left me.  Every time I heat emboss I ask myself why I don't do it more often since I enjoy the process and the results so much.

When I made my first card using the Bamboo Beauty stamp set (see previous post) I immediately envisioned a card using the bamboo stalks as an embossed background.  This card uses Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder and Copper Foil Sheets.

BambooBeauty_ATrueFriend

It was hard to capture the way the copper in this card stands out against the Basic Black, so I took a picture with the card lying flat.

BambooBeauty_ATrueFriend_Flat

This card begins with a panel of Basic Black cardstock.  The two bamboo stalks from the Bamboo Beauty stamp set were stamped on the panel using Versamark ink.  The large and small leaf branches were stamped among the stalks, also with Versmark ink.  The stamped images were covered with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder, the excess tapped off the panel, and the embossing powder melted with the Heat Tool.  The panel was adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Basic White cardstock.

Linen Thread was wrapped around the panels four times with the ends of the thread adhered at the back of the Basic White panel.  The bottom edge of the Linen Thread wrap is 1-1/4" above the bottom edge of the Basic Black panel.  The panels were adhered to a panel of Copper Foil Sheets with the bottom and right edge of the Basic White panel 1/16" from the bottom and right edges of the Copper Foil Sheets panel.  Note that the top and left edges of the Basic White panel are 1/4" from the top and left edges of the Copper Foil Sheets panel.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Basic Black card front.

The "A True Friend is the one..." sentiment was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The sentiment was die cut with the rounded end rectangle label die from the Painted Labels dies.  The label was adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals with the right end of the label 3/16" from the right edge of the Basic White panel and the bottom edge of the label 3/4" above the bottom edge of the Basic Black panel.

BambooBeauty_ATrueFriend_Inside

The thin and thick bamboo stalks were stamped along the left side of a panel of Basic White cardstock using Versamark.  The small leaves branch was stamped twice among the two stalks, also using Versamark ink.  The images were covered with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder, the excess tapped off the panel, and the embossing powder melted with the Heat Tool.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The "Grateful for all that you do" sentiment was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The Basic White cardstock was adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Basic Black cardstock and adhered at the upper center of the Basic White panel.

BambooBeauty_ATrueFriend_Envelope

Since I was on a roll with the heat embossing, I decided to continue the theme along the left front of the Medium Basic White Envelope using the same process as used for the inside of the card.

We have so many great tools that allow us to do some amazing things with paper.  I hope that this card inspires you to dust off your Stampin' Emboss Powders and Heat Tool.

Bamboo Beauty -- The Bamboo That Bends

Hello!

About 5 years ago I began working for a group of three financial advisors.  A couple of years ago they decided to expand their practice into a larger, more diverse group of advisors under the umbrella of a business group.  They did some research and determined that they would use the Bamboo as a part of the business logo.  The reasoning behind the use of bamboo is based upon "The Story of the Bamboo" posted on the practice's website:

A farmer plants a small seed in the ground, with great anticipation of growing a magnificent Chinese Bamboo Tree.  He waters it. He fertilizes it.  At the end of the first year, he visits the spot where he planted the seed, but finds nothing.

The second year passes. The farmer waters. He fertilizes. Still nothing.  Third year, same. Water. Fertilizer. Nothing.  At the end of the fourth year - not even a sprout. Despite the ridicule from his friends, family, and fellow farmers, the farmer keeps believing... and watering... and fertilizing.

Another year passes. The end of year 5 comes, and - wait. What? Could it be? He checks to make sure he's gone back to the same exact spot where he planted the seed, but everything looks different!  Sometime during the season (in a period of about six weeks), the farmer's Chinese bamboo tree has grown to a height of nearly ninety feet!

Question: Did the bamboo grow ninety feet in six weeks? Or five years?  You know the answer. It was growing all along, expanding its root system under the tender loving care of a faithful farmer who was committed, hopeful, determined, and willing to diligently do the hard work that would produce this magnificent result. Had that root system not been established during those five years, there would not have been nearly enough strength to support that kind of growth.

Needless to say, when I saw the Bamboo Beauty stamp set in the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog, I quickly put it on my Wish List.  I have always loved the strong, clean lines of bamboo and the sentiments included with this stamp set are just lovely.

BambooBeauty_TheBambooThatBends

This card begins with a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock.  The thick and thin bamboo stalks were randomly stamped along the left half of the panel using Garden Green ink.  The large and small leaf groupings were stamped among the stalks using Garden Green ink.  The panel was embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder and then matted with a slightly larger mat of Gold Foil Sheets.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Soft Suede card front.

Gold Cord from the Simply Elegant Trim was adhered to the card front in loose loops near the lower right side of the bamboo panel.  The "The Bamboo that bends is Stronger than the Oak that Breaks" sentiment was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Soft Suede ink.  The sentiment was die cut with the narrow rectangular die from the Tasteful Labels dies.  The sentiment label was adhered over the gold cord using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The bottom edge of the label is 3/4" above the bottom edge of the Very Vanilla panel and the right side of the label is 1/4" from the right side of the Very Vanilla panel.

BambooBeauty_TheBambooThatBends_Inside

The large and small bamboo stalks were stamped along the left side of a Very Vanilla panel using Garden Green ink.  The small leaf grouping was stamped in between the two stalks using Garden Green ink.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The "Sending Caring Thoughts" sentiment was stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock using Soft Suede ink.  The sentiment was die cut using the small starburst circle die from the Tasteful Labels dies.  A piece of Gold Foil Sheets and a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock were die cut with the 1-3/8" circle die from the Layering Circles dies.  The Gold Foil Sheets circle was die cut again with the small starburst circle centered inside the Gold Foil circle to create a circle rim.  The Very Vanilla 1-3/8" circle was covered in Stampin' Seal and the Gold Foil circle rim was adhered to the Very Vanilla circle ensuring that the edges of the Gold Foil circle rim is flush with the edges of the Very Vanilla circle.  The sentiment die cut was then adhered inside the Gold Foil circle rim.  The sentiment was adhered at the upper center of the Very Vanilla panel.

BambooBeauty_TheBambooThatBends_Envelope

The large and small bamboo stalks were stamped along the left side of a Medium Very Vanilla Envelope using Garden Green ink.  The small leaf grouping was stamped in between the two stalks using Garden Green ink.

I'll be back in a couple of days with another sample using this great stamp set.

Inspired Thoughts -- Checks & Dots

Hello!

REMINDER!!  The Retiring List for the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog has been updated with Discounts for some of the retiring items.  To see the updated list, click here.  A few of the bundles that are in this Mini Catalog carried over to the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog but DID NOT carry over the bundle discount.  If some of those bundles are on your Wish List, now is the time to order the bundle at the discounted price!

Today's project includes the True Love Designer Series Paper -- another item that will retire at the end of the January - June Mini Catalog in a couple of weeks.  I love, love, LOVE this paper because it has so many great possibilities.  I've featured this paper in a number of posts in the last couple of months so be sure to scroll back through to see all the different ways you can use this paper.  Today, I'm using the paper as a contrasting background to showcase the 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum and the Checks & Dots Embossing Folders.

InspiredThoughts_ChecksDots

This card layout and measurements are exactly the same for both cards.  Isn't it amazing how the change in colors makes such a difference?  Most significant is the frame for the embossed vellum:  Basic White vs Basic Black.  Which do you prefer?

InspiredThoughts_Dots

This card begins with a panel of True Love Designer Series Paper matted with a slightly larger panel of Basic Black cardstock.  A piece of Polished Pink Open Weave ribbon was wrapped around the panels and tied into a bow near the lower left corner of the panels.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-1/4" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Polished Pink card front.

A piece of Basic White cardstock was die cut with a scalloped frame from the Scalloped Contours dies (2-7/16" x 3-3/4").  A piece of Polished Pink 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum was embossed with the Dots folder from the Checks & Dots Embossing Folders and then adhered at the center of the die cut frame.  The scalloped frame was adhered to the card front with the bottom and right edges of the frame 3/16" from the bottom and right edges of the Designer Series Paper panel.

The "Congratulations" greeting was stamped on a strip of Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The stamped strip was matted with a slightly larger strip of Basic Black cardstock.  The greeting was adhered to the Shimmer Vellum with the right end of the greeting flush with the right side of the card front.  Stampin' Seal was used to adhere the greeting strip to the vellum and two Mini Glue Dots were stacked on top of each other were placed at the right end of the greeting strip where it overhangs the vellum and frame.

InspiredThoughts_Dots_Inside

A narrow strip of True Love Designer Series Paper was adhered along the left edge of a panel of Basic White cardstock with the top and bottom edges of the paper strip flush with the top and bottom edges of the panel and the left side of the paper strip 1/4" from the left edge of the panel.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The "It's Your Time to be Remembered..." sentiment was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The sentiment was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock and framed with a piece of Polished Pink Shimmer Vellum.  The sentiment was adhered near the upper left corner of the panel with the top edge of the sentiment frame 3/8" from the top edge of the panel and the left side of the frame 1/16" from the left edge of the panel.

InspiredThoughts_Dots_Envelope

The envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope was embossed with the Dots Embossing Folder.

Card Measurements

Basic Black:  4" x 5-1/4", 5/8" x 2-3/8", 1-9/16" x 1-11/16"; Basic White:  1/2" x 2-1/4", 2-5/8" x 3-7/8", 4" x 5-1/4", 1-1/2" x 1-5/8"; Polished Pink:  4-1/4" x 11" scored at 5-1/2" along the 11" length; 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum (Polished Pink):  1-15/16" x 3-1/4", 1-13/16" x 2"; True Love Designer Series Paper:  3-7/8" x 5-1/8", 11/16" x 5-1/4"; Polished Pink Open Weave ribbon:  18"

The second embossing folder in the Checks & Dots Embossing Folders was used with Soft Succulent Shimmer Vellum for this card.  All of the measurements are the same as for the Congratulations card with the exception of the stamped greeting.

InspiredThoughts_Checks

For the first card, the embossed vellum was adhered directly to the Basic White scalloped frame.  For this card, the embossed vellum was adhered to a piece of Basic White cardstock before adhering at the center of the scalloped frame.  This was done so that the Basic Black scalloped frame would not darken the color of the vellum.

InspiredThoughts_Checks_Inside

Since the sentiment for this card and its vellum frame were smaller than the one used for the first card, I moved the sentiment down the paper strip a bit.  The top edge of the vellum frame is 13/16" from the top edge of the panel and the left edge of the vellum frame is 1/16" from the left edge of the panel.

InspiredThoughts_Checks_Envelope

The Checks Embossing folder was used to emboss the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.

Card Measurements

Basic Black:  4" x 5-1/4", 2-5/8" x 4", 5/8" x 2-1/2, 7/8" x 1-1/2"; Basic White:  1/2" x 2-3/8", 1-15/16" x 3-1/4", 4" x 5-1/4", 3/4" x 1-3/8"; Soft Succulent:  4-1/4" x 11" scored at 5-1/2" along the 11" length; 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum (Soft Succulent):  1-15/16" x 3-1/4", 1-1/4" x 1-7/8"; True Love Designer Series Paper:  3-7/8" x 5-1/8", 11/16" x 5-1/4"; Soft Succulent Open Weave ribbon:  18"

It's been fun creating simple cards that feature embossing folders for the last couple of weeks.  I hope that I've been able to give you some inspiration for creating a lovely card with a few supplies that you would be happy to gift individually or as a gift box of cards.

Inspired Thoughts -- Thanks & Hello

Hi There!

Last week, my posts featured a couple of full size embossing folders with shimmery papers to demonstrate that an embossing folder can take center stage on a card front using a simple card layout.  This week I'm still featuring embossing folders with shimmery papers; however, even though these folders are smaller, they can still pack a punch for a focal point.

InspiredThoughts_ThanksHello

Unfortunately, my camera had a hard time capturing the embossing and shimmer on these card fronts; but in real life, these cards are simply pretty.  The Thanks & Hello Embossing Folders were used with 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum to provide a fun accent for the greetings on these cards:  the Thanks embossing folder for the Thank You card and the Hello embossing folder for the Thinking of You card.  The card measurements for both cards are exactly the same with the exception of the greetings and sentiments labels.

InspiredThoughts_Thanks

This card begin with a panel of True Love Designer Series Paper matted with a slightly larger panel of Basic Black cardstock.  A piece of White Faux Linen ribbon, from the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack, was wrapped around the panels and tied into a knot at the lower left side of the panels.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 7/8" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper panel.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Pale Papaya card front.

A piece of Pale Papaya Shimmer Vellum was embossed with the Thanks embossing folder and adhered to a piece of Basic White cardstock the same size as the embossed vellum.  The cardstock-backed vellum was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock and then adhered to the cardstock with the right and bottom edges of the Basic Black mat for the vellum 1/8" from the right and bottom edges of the Designer Series Paper panel.

The "Thank You So Much" greeting, from the Inspired Thoughts stamp set, was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and matted with a slightly larger mat of Basic Black cardstock.  The label was adhered to the embossed Shimmer Vellum with the right edge of the label mat flush with the right edge of the Shimmery Vellum mat and the bottom edge of the label mat 9/16" above the bottom edge of the Shimmer Vellum.

InspiredThoughts_Thanks_Inside

A strip of True Love Designer Series Paper was adhered across a panel of Basic White cardstock with the right and left edges of the Designer Series Paper strip flush with the right and left edges of the Basic White cardstock.  The bottom edge of the paper strip is 3/8" above the bottom edge of the Basic White panel.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The "You Make A Difference Every Day" sentiment was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The cardstock was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock.  The sentiment was adhered at the center of a piece of Pale Papaya Shimmer Vellum sized to frame the sentiment.  The sentiment was adhered at the lower left corner of the Basic White panel with the bottom and left edges of the Shimmer Vellum 1/16" from the bottom and left edges of the Basic White panel.

InspiredThoughts_Thanks_Envelope

A piece of True Love Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim the excess paper from the envelope flap using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

Card Measurements

The second embossing folder in the Thanks & Hello Embossing Folders was used with Fresh Freesia Shimmer Vellum for this card.  All of the measurements are the same as for the Thank You card with the exception of the stamped greeting.

InspiredThoughts_Hello

The "Thinking of You" greeting, from the Inspired Thoughts stamp set, was used for this card front.  The actual stamp image has the words "Thinking of You on Your Special Day".  The words "on Your Special Day" were covered with a piece of repositionable tape, the stamp inked, the tape removed, and then the image stamped on Basic White cardstock.

InspiredThoughts_Hello_Inside

The measurements for the sentiment and the Shimmer Vellum frame are also changed for the inside sentiment area.

InspiredThoughts_Hello_Envelope

As with the Thank You card, True Love Designer Series Paper was used for the envelope flap for the Thinking of You card.

If you have the opportunity to see the 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum in person, I know you are going to be thinking of all the great ways you can use this beautiful vellum to enhance your papercrafting projects.

I'll be back in a couple of days with another simple card design for another package of embossing folders.
