Friends Are Like Seashells -- Happy Birthday

Friends Are Like Seashells

Hi There!

Today's post features another project created using elements from the Sand & Sea Product Suite from the January - June Mini Catalog:  Friends Are Like Seashells stamp set, Seaside Shells dies, Seashells 3D Embossing Folder, and Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper.

When Stampin' Up! first shared this product suite with Demonstrators last Fall, I was intrigued by the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder.  One of the things I have always found frustrating about seashell stamps is that no matter how detailed the image, they could never convey the amazing texture and dimensional detail of seashells.  I could do a good job replicating the colors, but not the dimensional feel.  With the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder, I can now see and feel the texture and dimension of the shells.  Oh, boy!   Needless to say, a photo cannot completely convey the awesomeness of this embossing folder.

This photo shows the tulip shell image (largest shell) stamped with Sahara Sand and the filler image with stamped off Blushing Bride.  Paper Snips were used to fussy cut the shell.

In this photo, the tulip shell was stamped as described above but was embossed with the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder prior to fussy cutting with Paper Snips.  You'll see the border around the shell is a bit larger because the embossing extends a bit beyond the stamped edge of the shell; so I followed the embossed edge.

It really makes a difference -- especially when you see it in real life!

This card begins with a panel of Old Olive cardstock die cut with the large background die from the Seaside Shells dies.  The die was adhered to a panel of Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper matted with a slightly larger panel of Blushing Bride cardstock.  Linen Thread was wrapped three times around the top area of the panels and dies with the ends adhered at the back of the panels.  Note that the Linen Thread was placed behind the die cut at the upper left corner to avoid the area where the tulip shell will be placed.

Starting at the top left and moving in a clockwise circle, the shells on the front of the card are:  tulip shell, small scallop shell, triton shell, large scallop shell, and conch shell.

All of the shells were stamped on Basic White cardstock using Sahara Sand ink.  Blushing Bride ink was used with filler image stamps to color the shells by inking the image, stamping off on a scrap piece of paper, and then stamping over the shell image:  the large rectangular filler image was used for the tulip shell, the small round filler image for the small scallop shell, the small rectangular filler image for the triton shell, the large round filler image for the large scallop shell, the small rectangular filler image (used repeatedly) for the conch shell.

Each stamped image was placed in the embossing folder, the stamped image lined up with the corresponding embossing area, and the embossing folder run through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine.  Once the images were embossed, they were cut out with Paper Snips following the outside edge of the embossing.  The images were adhered on top of their corresponding place on the die cut.

The "Friends Are Like Seashells...You Collect Them Along The Way" greeting was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Misty Moonlight ink.  The greeting was die cut with the notched rectangular die from the Tasteful Labels dies.  The greeting label was adhered at the upper right corner of the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The top edge of the label is 1/4" from the top edge of the Designer Series Paper and the right edge of the label is 1/8" from the right edge of the Designer Series Paper.

The "Happy Birthday to my beautiful friend" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of a Basic White panel using Misty Moonlight ink.  Old Olive ink was used to stamp the sea grass images three or four times each -- at varying heights -- at the lower left corner of the panel.

The small and large scallop shells were stamped on Basic White cardstock using Sahara Sand ink, the small and large filler images inked with Blushing Bride ink (stamped off on a scrap piece of paper), embossed with the Seashells 3D embossing folder, and the shells fussy cut with Paper Snips.

The sand dollar image was inked with Sahara Sand ink, stamped off on a scrap piece of paper and stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock.  The image was die cut with the corresponding die from the Seaside Shells dies.

The sand dollar and scallop shells were adhered at the lower left corner of the panel.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

A piece of Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper was adhered at the back of the Medium Basic White Envelope flap.  Paper Snips were used to trim away the excess paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

The Retiring List for the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog has been updated with Discounts for some of the retiring items.  To see the updated list, click here.  A few of the bundles that are in this Mini Catalog carried over to the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog but DID NOT carry over the bundle discount.  If some of those bundles are on your Wish List, now is the time to order the bundle at the discounted price!

Today's project features a bundle that carried over from the Mini Catalog to the Annual Catalog WITH the Bundle pricing.  Woohoo!  However, when you look at this product suite in the Mini Catalog, you'll see the really awesome Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper and coordinating Seaside Shells die cuts -- unfortunately, these items DID NOT carry over.  I would hate for you to miss getting your hands on these products as they are just beautiful!
