So Sentimental -- Light or Dark?

Hello!

Today's post is a continuation on the theme of highlighting some of the retiring product from the 2020 -2021 Annual Catalog and January - June Mini Catalog.

REMINDER!!  The Retiring Lists for the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog and the January - June Mini Catalog have been released.  To see the list of retiring items from the 2020 -2021 Annual Catalog, click here.  Note that some of the items on this list have been discounted and all are available while supplies last.  To see the list of retiring items from the January - June Mini Catalog, click here.  Since this Mini Catalog goes until the end of June, Stampin' Up! hasn't determined whether to apply discounts to these items...yet.  But looking at this list will give you a good idea of what will be carrying over to the new Annual Catalog.

This project showcases the RETIRING ITEMS of:  So Sentimental and Buffalo Check stamp sets, Silver Metallic Edge ribbon, Label Me Fancy punch, Pretty Peacock ink, and Seaside Spray (ink and cardstock).

As I was going through my stack of retiring items, I ran across the Buffalo Check background stamp.  I love this background, but never seem to give it enough love.  So I decided to combine it with a great greeting stamp set that is also retiring, So Sentimental.  I wanted to do something a little dramatic with the Buffalo Check, so decided to give some heat embossing a try with gold embossing powder on Basic Black cardstock.

SoSentimental_HealingHugs

This card begins with a panel of Basic Black cardstock.  The Buffalo Check stamp was inked with Versamark ink and stamped on the Basic Black panel, covered with Gold Stampin' Emboss powder, the excess embossing powder removed by tapping on the back of the panel, and the powder melted using the Heat Tool.  A piece of Fine Art Floral ribbon was wrapped around the panel and tied in a knot near the left side of the panel (the bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-1/8" above the bottom edge of the panel and the knot of the ribbon is 1/2" from the left edge of the panel).  The panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Gold Foil Sheets and then adhered at the center of the Basic Black card front.

The "Sending Healing Hugs" greeting, from the So Sentimental stamp set, was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Pretty Peacock ink and die cut with the smaller of the curved labels from the Stitched So Sweetly dies.  The greeting was adhered at the center of a piece of Gold Foil Sheets die cut with the curved and straight edge die.

When I placed the greeting labels over the ribbon, I realized that the card needed a bit more colorful interest.  So I decided to add some greenery behind the greeting labels courtesy of the Forever Fern stamp set and coordinating Forever Flourishing dies.  The rounded leaf image was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Shaded Spruce ink, the long thin leaves image was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Pretty Peacock ink, and the two stems of leaves was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Just Jade ink.  The images were die cut using their corresponding dies.  In addition, the larger leaf die was used to die cut a piece of Vellum cardstock.  The four dies were arranged with the stems pointing toward the lower right of the embossed panel at the top edge of the ribbon using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.  Then the greeting labels were adhered over the greenery using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The two stem leaf image was stamped at the upper left corner of a panel of Basic White cardstock with the leaves pointing toward the lower left corner of the panel using Just Jade ink.  The long leaf image was stamped across the upper edge of the Basic White panel with the stem at the upper left corner using Pretty Peacock ink.  The rounded leaf image was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Shaded Spruce ink, die cut with the corresponding die, and adhered to the Basic White panel with the stem near the upper left corner and the leaves pointing toward the upper center of the panel.  The "you can do this" sentiment, from the Forever Fern stamp set, was stamped at the upper center of the panel to the right of the leaves using Pretty Peacock ink.

The three leaf images were randomly stamped on the envelope flap of a Medium Basic White Envelope using the same colors used throughout the project.  Tip:  Place a scrap piece of paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to keep the stamping confined to the envelope flap.

When I finished the card, I loved the contrast of the greenery with the gold embossed background and gold foil label but worried that using the Get Well greeting with so much black might have a bit of a morbid feel.  However, I realized that this might be a good balance for a Get Well card for a guy.  But I wanted to see what a card with a lighter feel might look like using the same basic card design, stamp sets, dies, and techniques.

As you can see, the card is rotated to the landscape orientation, but the design is the same.  This time, I stamped the Buffalo Check background on a panel of Seaside Spray cardstock using Versamark ink and heat embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss powder.  Since I knew that I would be using the Forever Fern images, I added them to the panel before I added the ribbon:  Seaside Spray ink was used for the short leaf and round leaf images and Night of Navy ink for the two stem leaves.  With a wider area, I decided to add a second Vellum leaf bundle using the flat topped leaf die with the large leaf bundle die.  The greenery was adhered to the embossed panel using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive with the stems pointing lower right quadrant of the panel.

The "Wishing You Much Happiness Today And Always" greeting was stamped on a piece of Night of Navy cardstock using Versamark ink and heat embossed with Silver Stampin' Emboss powder.  The greeting was die cut with the curved and straight edge with rounded bumps die.  The slot punch from the Label Me Fancy punch was used to create openings in the side bumps of the die and Silver Metallic Edge ribbon threaded through the slots.  Stampin' Dimensionals were placed on the back of the label above and below the ribbon and the label adhered to the card front centered over the greenery (the right edge of the bump out on the label is 1/8" from the right edge of the panel and the bottom edge of the label is 1/16" above the bottom edge of the panel).  The ribbon was wrapped around the embossed panel and then tied in a knot to the left of the label.  The panel was adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Silver Foil Sheets and then adhered at the center of the Night of Navy card front.

The long leaf image was stamped two times at the left edge of a Basic White panel using Seaside Spray ink with one stamping pointing toward the top edge of the panel and the second stamping pointing toward the bottom edge of the panel.  The "love & laughter Forever After" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of the panel using Night of Navy ink.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The long leaf image was randomly stamped across the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope using Seaside Spray ink.  Tip:  Place a piece of scrap paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to keep the stamping confined to the envelope flap.

So which one do you like?  The light or the dark?
