Forever Fern -- Hello To A Friend

Hi There!

Today's post is a continuation on the theme of highlighting some of the retiring product from the 2020 -2021 Annual Catalog and January - June Mini Catalog.

REMINDER!!  The Retiring Lists for the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog and the January - June Mini Catalog have been released.  To see the list of retiring items from the 2020 -2021 Annual Catalog, click here.  Note that some of the items on this list have been discounted and all are available while supplies last.  To see the list of retiring items from the January - June Mini Catalog, click here.  Since this Mini Catalog goes until the end of June, Stampin' Up! hasn't determined whether to apply discounts to these items...yet.  But looking at this list will give you a good idea of what will be carrying over to the new Annual Catalog.

This RETIRING ITEMS featured in this blog post are the Forever Fern Bundle and the Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper.  The Forever Fern stamp set and Forever Flourishing dies will carry over to the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog; however, they will no longer be bundled for a 10% discount.  I really love the Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper and will be sorry to see that discontinued.

With all the great Designer Series Paper that Stampin' Up! offers, it's easy to establish quite a collection (hoard) of beautiful paper.  I often hear my customers say that they can't bear to cut up such beautiful paper.  If the paper is so beautiful, I can't think of a better way to show homage to the paper than to use it!  This card design allows the paper to take center stage.  In fact, the project features both sides of the same sheet of paper:  the beautiful ferns for the large panel and the more subtle background pattern for the raised lettering and the envelope flap.  Stampin' Up! makes it so easy!

ForeverFern_HelloToAFriend

This card begins with a panel of Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper.  The large round die from the Tasteful Labels die was used to create an opening near the bottom right corner of the panel.  Then the panel was adhered at the center of a slightly larger panel of Pear Pizzazz cardstock which was adhered at the center of the Shaded Spruce card front.

A piece of Basic White cardstock was stamped with the "to a friend that makes me smile" greeting from the Forever Fern stamp set using Shaded Spruce ink.  The greeting was die cut with the same large round die used to create the hole in the Designer Series Paper panel.  The greeting was adhered inside the die cut hole in the Designer Series Paper panel.

A piece of Shaded Spruce cardstock was embossed using the rows of leaves embossing folder from the Greenery Embossing Folders and then adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Pear Pizzazz cardstock.  The panels were adhered to the Designer Series Paper panel with the top, left, and bottom sides of the Pear Pizzazz/Shaded Spruce panels 1/16" from the top, left, and bottom edges of the Designer Series Paper panel.

A piece of Foam Adhesive Sheets was cut to fit a piece of Designer Series Paper large enough to die cut the "H-E-L-L-O" dies from the Playful Alphabet dies.  You know what I love about these dies?  There are multiple dies of popular letters--this means that there are 2 "L"s.  Woohoo!  The letters were die cut (run the dies through the machine a couple of times to make sure that the dies cut all the way through the thickness of the foam sheets and Designer Series Paper).  The letters were adhered vertically to the embossed Shaded Spruce panel.

ForeverFern_HelloToAFriend_Inside

A narrow strip of Pear Pizzazz cardstock was adhered behind the right edge of a strip of Designer Series Paper.  The strips were adhered along the left edge of a Basic White panel with the top, left, and bottom edges of the strips flush with the top, left, and bottom edges of the panel.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

ForeverFern_HelloToAFriend_Envelope

A piece of Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim away the excess paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

How easy was that??!!  The 2021-2022 Annual Catalog begins next week and you'll be yearning for all the great new papers.  Now's the time to make room for it!  Gather up your courage and go attack that Designer Series Paper stash.

Waterfront -- Every Little Kindness

Hello!

This RETIRING ITEM featured in this blog post is the Waterfront stamp set.

I really enjoy using stamp sets that allow me to make scenes.  The great thing about the Waterfront stamp set is that many of the stamps used to create depth for water can be used to create other scenery elements--like the mountains you see in the scene below.  I had planned to add water to this scene, too, but got so carried away with creating the ground I ran out of room for the water!

Waterfront_EveryLittleKindness

This card begins with a panel of Basic White cardstock.  Blending Brushes and the ink colors of Balmy Blue and Pool Party were used with a torn piece of scrap paper to create a sky background for the top 2/3 of the panel.

Now to create the scene:

  • The circle image was stamped 1/2 way down the panel near the left side using Crushed Curry ink stamped off on a scrap piece of paper prior to stamping on the panel.  A Blending Brush and Crushed Curry ink was used to create the halo around the sun
  • The mountains were stamped across the panel using Soft Suede ink stamping twice before reinking to create depth.  The bottom edge of the mountains is 1-3/8" inches above the bottom edge of the panel
  • Both of the narrow background strip images were placed on one stamp block, inked with Crumb Cake ink, stamped off on a piece of scrap paper, and then stamped below the mountains to fill the space to the bottom of the panel.  It will take a number of inking, stamping off, and stamping the images to cover the area and make sure to flip the images to help with filling in the open areas.  Note that there will be overlap when stamping and that's OK.  This gives the stamped area some depth and texture
  • The dots image was stamped over the ground area using Gray Granite ink
  • The group of pine trees was stamped near the bottom right corner of the panel using Mossy Meadow ink, stamping a second time before reinking to create depth.  The bottom of the trees is 1/2" above the bottom edge of the panel
  • The little houses were stamped three times on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Poppy Parade, Pacific Point, and Crushed Curry inks.  The houses were cut out with Paper Snips.  The Poppy Parade and Crushed Curry houses were adhered in front of the trees using Mini Glue Dots and the Pacific Point house was adhered "in front" of the other two houses using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals

The greeting banner was created by inking the "Every Little Kindness Makes The World Brighter" greeting with Soft Suede ink.  The Blending Pen was used to remove the ink from "kindness" and "brighter", and then inking "kindness" with the brush tip of the Pacific Point Stampin' Write Marker and "brighter" with the brush tip of the Poppy Parade Stampin' Write Marker.  The greeting was die cut using the rectangular pointed end label die aligning the greeting near the bottom point.  The banner was adhered at the upper right corner of the panel with the top of the banner extending beyond the top edge of the panel.  Paper Snips were used to cut off the part of the label extending beyond the panel using the edge of the panel as a guide.

The panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Pacific Point cardstock and then adhered at the center of the Poppy Parade card front.

Waterfront_EveryLittleKindness_Inside

The narrow background strip images were placed on one stamp block, inked with Crumb Cake ink, stamped off on a piece of scrap paper, and then stamped at the lower right corner of a Basic White panel.  It will take a number of inking, stamping off, and stamping the images to cover the area and make sure to flip the images to help with filling in the open areas.  Note that there will be overlap when stamping and that's OK.  This gives the stamped area some depth and texture.  The grouping of pine trees was inked with Mossy Meadow ink and stamped three times along the top of the ground near the right edge of the panel.  Note that the stamp was NOT reinked between stampings so you have three colors of pine trees:  The first stamping is in the middle, the second to the right of the first, and the third to the left of the first.

The "Thanks" image was stamped on a strip of Basic White cardstock using Poppy Parade ink.  The "friend" image was stamped next to the "Thanks" image using Pacific Point ink  The strip was die cut using the banner die from the Tasteful Labels dies.  Crushed Curry ink and a Blending Brush were used to apply ink to a narrow strip of Basic White cardstock.  A banner tail was cut into one end of the strip with Paper Snips and the strip adhered behind the die cut banner with the tail of the Crushed Curry strip extending beyond the left tail of the die cut banner.  The banner was adhered to the Basic White panel just above the tip of the tallest pine tree with the right end of the die cut extending beyond the right edge of the panel.  Paper Snips were used to cut off the end of the banner using the edge of the panel as a guide.

The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

Waterfront_EveryLittleKindness_Envelope

The narrow background strip images were placed on one stamp block, inked with Crumb Cake ink, stamped off on a piece of scrap paper, and then stamped at the lower left front corner of a Medium Basic White Envelope.  It will take a number of inking, stamping off, and stamping the images to cover the area and make sure to flip the images to help with filling in the open areas.  Note that there will be overlap when stamping and that's OK.  This gives the stamped area some depth and texture.  The grouping of pine trees was inked with Mossy Meadow ink and stamped three times along the top of the ground near the left edge of the envelope.  Note that the stamp was NOT reinked between stampings so you have three colors of pine trees:  The first stamping is in the middle, the second to the right of the first, and the third to the left of the first.

Stampin' Up! offers a number of stamp sets that can be used to create fun scenes.  Some of them are on the Retiring List:  High Tide, My Meadow, Sending Sunshine and Snow Front.  The great thing is that elements of each of these stamp sets can be used with the other scenery stamp sets or with single stamp images to create unique vignettes.  The possibilities are endless!

Butterfly Wishes -- A Sweet Friendship

This project showcases the RETIRING ITEMS of:  Butterfly Wishes stamp set, Terracotta Tile Scalloped Linen ribbon, Terracotta Tile (ink, reinker, cardstock).

One of my most vivid memories of living in Washington, DC was the annual trek to the Reflecting Pool to see the Cherry Blossoms in bloom.  The dogwoods bloom at the same time and are just as populous in the area, so the combination of the two is just stunning to behold on a Spring day when the temperatures are finally beginning to warm up, the skies are a glorious blue, and everyone is so very happy to be outside enjoying the view.  When I saw this stamp set, I was more drawn to the blooms on the branch than to the butterflies as it brought back the cherry blossoms for me.

ButterflyWishes_ASweetFriendship

Stampin' Write Markers were used to ink the branch with blossoms image using Flirty Flamingo for the blooms, Garden Green for the leaves, and Soft Suede for the stem.  The image was stamped across a piece of Basic White cardstock.  Tip:  Huff your breath over an image inked with markers to remoisten the ink immediately prior to stamping.  The image was inked again with the markers and then stamped a second time with the image flipped so that it comes from the opposite side of the paper.  The Basic White cardstock was die cut with the 2-1/2" x 3-5/8" scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly dies.  The flowers of the image were inked again with the Flirty Flamingo marker and stamped on Basic White cardstock, re-inked and stamped a second time on the cardstock.  The flowers were fussy cut with Paper Snips and adhered over the stamped blooms using Mini Glue Dots.

The "A sweet friendship refreshes the soul" greeting was stamped along the bottom edge of the die cut using Terracotta Tile ink.

The medium-sized open wing butterfly was inked with Terracotta Tile ink and the brush tip of the Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker was used to color the body, antennae, and add accents to the wing of the butterfly.  The butterfly was stamped on Basic White cardstock and fussy cut with Paper Snips.  A rolled up Mini Glue Dot was adhered behind the body of the butterfly and the butterfly adhered to the blossoms focal point near the center.

ButterflyWishes_ASweetFriendship_WatercolorPanel

A drop of Flirty Flamingo ink was placed in the open lid of the Flirty Flamingo ink pad and diluted with a bit of water.  The same process was used for the Garden Green ink pad and reinker and the Terracotta Tile ink pad and reinker.  The flat edged brush from the Water Painters brush set was used to pick up the Flirty Flamingo water-diluted reinker and swipe it in wide strokes diagonally across a DRY piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper leaving randomly sized spaces between the strokes.  Terracotta Tile water-diluted reinker was swiped between the strokes of Flirty Flamingo on the Watercolor Paper.  Note that in the panel shown above, you can see that the panel was not completely covered in these two ink colors and the colors were allowed to overlap.

The brush was cleaned with clean water and then used to pick up Garden Green water-diluted reinker.  This time the brush was held about 5 inches above the paper and the brush tapped to cause drops of Garden Green to scatter across the panel.  Move the brush from side to side to randomly cover the panel with the green dots.  Let the panel dry (or use a Heat Tool to speed up the process) and then LIGHTLY spritz clear water over the panel.  Let the panel dry (or use the Heat Tool to speed up the process).

Once the panel is completely dry, adhere the watercolor paper at the center of a slightly larger mat of Garden Green cardstock.  (Note that Tear & Tape Adhesive or Stampin' Seal+ may provide a flatter seal between the two pieces of paper.)  Wrap a piece of Terracotta Tile Scalloped Edge Linen ribbon around the two panels and adhere the ribbon at the back of the Garden Green panel.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-1/4" above the bottom edge of the Watercolor Paper panel.  Adhere the panels at the center of the Terracotta Tile card front.  Adhere the blossoms focal point to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals with the bottom edge of the focal point 1/4" above the bottom edge of the Watercolor Paper and the right edge of the focal point 3/8" from the right edge of the Watercolor Paper.

ButterflyWishes_ASweetFriendship_Inside

The single blossom image was stamped three times over the top edge of a Post-It Note (the repositionable adhesive is on the back of the top edge) and Paper Snips used to fussy cut the flowers.  Flirty Flamingo and Terracotta Tile inks were used to randomly stamp the single flower image across the top edge and along the left side of a panel of Basic White cardstock.  The masks were placed over adjacent flowers and the single leaf image stamped between the flower petals using Garden Green ink.   The masks were removed from the first four flowers to the next adjacent four flowers and the process repeated for the leaves.  The process was repeated one more time to complete adding the leaves to the flowers.

The "It was a perfect day because of you" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of the panel using Garden Green ink.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

ButterflyWishes_ASweetFriendship_Envelope

Flirty Flamingo and Terracotta Tile inks were used to randomly stamp the single flower image across the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  The flower masks were placed over adjacent flowers and the single leaf image stamped between the flower petals using Garden Green ink.   The masks were removed from the first four flowers to the next adjacent four flowers and the process repeated for the leaves.  The process was repeated one more time to complete adding the leaves to the flowers.  Tip:  A piece of scrap paper was placed between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to keep the stamping confined to the envelope flap.

We're down to the last days of the 2020 - 2021 Annual Catalog.  I hope that you've gone through the Retiring List to ensure that you have all the items that you identified on your Wish List.  Remember that the items on the Retiring List are only available while supplies last.  For the most current listing of items, but sure to go to the Stampin' Up! Geared Up Garage -- Happy Father's Day

Hello!

This project showcases the RETIRING ITEMS of:  Geared Up Garage stamp set and Garage Gears dies, Subtle 3D Embossing Folder, and Champagne Foil Sheets.

My Dad passed to Heaven a number of years ago and there's still not a day that goes by that I miss him.  I yearn for his bone crushing hugs, uncomplicated support, and unconditional love.  One of my cousins is very interested in genealogy and is putting together a family history for my father's family.  Considering my father was one of 10 children, it's a HUGE undertaking and I'm impressed with what she has accomplished.  I've been seeing lots of photos and documentation about my father -- some I was familiar with and others an unique opportunity to learn more about my Dad.  It only makes me miss him more because I would love to hear his version of some of the great stories that are being shared by my cousins.  And there are LOTS of us!

GearedUpGarage_HappyFathersDay

This Father's Day card would have amused my Dad.  We didn't have a lot of money while I was growing up as I was the oldest of 6 kids and my Dad was the sole income for our family.  Because of that, he and Mom learned to make every penny stretch in 15 directions.  When I began driving, I had a pretty old car that my parents purchased from my uncle.  Because it was old, it had issues.  And when it had issues, it was primarily up to Dad to figure out how to make the issues go away as long as possible.  This is how I learned to take care of a car.  If Dad was working on your car, then you had to stay with him to pass tools, water, beer, rags, etc.  Some days were easy, like the days he supervised me changing the oil or rotating the tires; and other days were more difficult, like when he had to change out the ball joints.  I learned a lot with Dad...including some interesting vocabulary skills.  I have to say that my car never had gears this bright and shiny.

This card begins with a Smoky Slate panel randomly stamped with the exhaust plume image using Basic Gray ink.  The panel was embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and then adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Champagne Foil Sheets.  The panels were adhered at the center of the Basic Gray card base.

All of the gear dies, from the Garage Gears dies, were die cut from the Champagne Foil sheets along with an extra one of the grouping of three gears.  The gears were randomly adhered to the embossed panel using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive leaving an opening along the upper right side of the panel for the greeting.

The "Happy Father's Day" image was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and die cut with the corresponding die.  A piece of Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding ribbon was colored with the Dark Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker.  To do this, lay the ribbon out flat on a covered work surface and swipe the side of the brush tip over the ribbon to cover the ribbon.  (Note that the ink will bleed through the ribbon to the surface below.)  Fold the ribbon in half and adhere to the card front with the loop of the ribbon extending slightly beyond the right edge of the Smoky Slate panel and the top edge of the ribbon 2" below the top edge of the panel.  The "Happy Father's Day" greeting was adhered over the ribbon using Stampin' Dimensionals with the top edge of the greeting 1-3/8" below the top edge of the panel and the right side of the greeting 3/16" from the right side of the panel.

GearedUpGarage_HappyFathersDay_Inside

The exhaust plume image was randomly stamped over a Basic White panel using Smoky Slate ink.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The "You Jump-Start My Heart" sentiment was stamped on Basic White cardstock using Basic Gray ink and die cut with the winged emblem die.  The winged emblem die was then used to die cut a piece of Basic Black cardstock.  The center of the Basic Black winged emblem was removed and the remainder of the die cut adhered at the upper center of the panel using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.  The sentiment was removed from the center of the Basic White winged emblem die cut and adhered at the center of the Basic Black winged emblem.

A selection of the gears dies were used to die cut Champagne Foil Sheets and adhered above and to the left of the sentiment/die cut using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.

GearedUpGarage_HappyFathersDay_Envelope

The exhaust plume image was randomly stamped over the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope using Smoky Slate ink and Basic Gray ink.  Tip:  Place a scrap piece of paper between the envelope flap and body of the envelope to keep the stamping confined to the envelope flap.

A Wish For Everything -- Happy Mother's Day

This project showcases the RETIRING ITEMS of:  Curvy dies, Subtle 3D Embossing Folder, 2" circle punch, Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper, Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle ribbon, and Terracotta Tile (ink and cardstock).

Even though my Mom has moved to Heaven, I still have people I want to remember on Mother's Day:  my daughters, daughters-in-law, and wonderful women who continue to be a politive influence in my life.  I think this card is a bright and cheerful way to let these important women know how special they are.

AWishForEverything_HappyMothersDay

This card begins with a piece of Terracotta Tile cardstock.  The dotted edge curvy die from the Curvy dies was used to cut along the horizonal of the cardstock with one end 1-5/8" below the top left corner and the other end of the die 1/2" below the top right corner.  The cardstock was die cut with the same die on the remaining cardstock with one end 1/2" above the lower left corner and the other end of the die 1-5/8" above the lower right corner.  The two pieces were embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder and the pieces adhered to a panel of Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper leaving a "pathway" of Designer Series Paper between the two die cut pieces.  Note that the non-curved edges of the cardstock pieces are flush with the outside edges of the Designer Series Paper.  The Designer Series Paper/die cut cardstock was adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Old Olive cardstock and then adhered at the center of the Bumblebee card base.

A piece of Vellum cardstock was die cut with the doodle circle label from the Painted Labels dies.  A piece of Bumblebee cardstock was punched with the 2" circle punch.  The punched circle was adhered at the center of the Vellum circle label.  The "happy" word, from the A Wish For Everything stamp set, was stamped near the upper edge of the Bumblebee circle using Terracotta Tile ink.  A piece of Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle ribbon was folded in a "Z" and adhered in a diagonal across the right side of the card front.  The label was adhered over the ribbon using Stampin' Dimensionals.  Three Opal Rounds were adhered to the card front to create a visual triangle.

Adhesive Sheets were adhered to the back of six pieces of Old Olive cardstock.  Three of the pieces were die cut with the "Mother's" die from the Word Wishes dies and three of the pieces were die cut with the "Day" die.  The three "Mother's" die cuts were stacked one on top of the other (removing the adhesive sheet covers prior to stacking one on top of the other) and the stacked dies adhered to the Bumblebee circle immediately below the stamped "happy".  Don't forget the apostrophe in "Mother's"!  These were adhered to the Bumblebee circle above the right top of the "r", one stacked on top of the other.  The "Day" die cuts were stacked one on top of the other and then adhered to the Bumblebee circle below "Mother's".

AWishForEverything_HappyMothersDay_Inside

A piece of Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper and a piece of Terracotta Tile cardstock were die cut with the dotted curvy die, matching the curves for both pieces.  The dotted part was cut off the Designer Series Paper using Paper Snips (use the indent from the curvy die as a guide when trimming off the dotted edge).  The Designer Series Paper was adhered on top of the Terracotta Tile die cut and then the two pieces adhered along the top edge of a panel of Basic White cardstock.  Paper Snips were used to trim the Designer Series Paper/cardstock using the edges of the panel as a guide.

The "Just A Little Reminder That You Are Loved." sentiment was stamped at the center of the panel using Old Olive ink.

You'll note that there's a thin mat of Old Olive cardstock behind the Basic White panel.  This is because I wanted to separate the Bumblebee background of the Designer Series Paper from the Bumblebee card base.  The panels were adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

AWishForEverything_HappyMothersDay_Envelope

A piece of Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim the excess Designer Series Paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

It seems that there's a bit of work to making this card because there are so many pieces.  However, it went together very quickly and would be great as a Birthday card, Anniversary card, Wedding card, Thinking of You card, or as a fun Note card.  The A Wish For Everything stamp set and coordinating Word Wishes dies give you so many options to choose from.
