Hey Chick & Hey Birthday Chick -- Hey, Chick!

Hello!

I was so glad to see that Stampin' Up! re-released the Hey Chick stamp set and offered coordinating dies for the Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick stamp sets.  There's something so fun and happy about those chickens!  Here's a birthday card that combines both of the stamp sets and dies.

Chicks_HeyChick

This card begins with a panel of Basic White cardstock.  A sky and ground background was created for the panel using Blending Brushes, a torn piece of paper, and the ink colors of Balmy Blue and Gray Granite for the sky and Crumb Cake for the ground.  I began with the Balmy Blue ink and then added the Gray Granite ink here and there to make the sky a little cloudy.  Once the sky was completed, then I covered the bottom area (approximately 1") with Crumb Cake ink.  The chicken scratch embossing die (Birthday Chick dies) was applied a number of times to cover the Crumb Cake area.  Two pieces of Basic Gray cardstock were die cut with the chicken wire die (Chick dies) and adhered across the Basic White panel with the bottom of the chicken wire across the transition between the sky and the ground.  The ends of the chicken wire were trimmed flush with the right and left sides of the Basic White panel.  The Basic White panel was adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Basic Gray cardstock and adhered at the center of the So Saffron card front.

The dancing chicken (Hey Birthday Chick) and pecking chicken (Hey Chick) were stamped on Thick Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The chickens were colored with Stampin' Blends Markers:

  • Chicken Heads:  Light So Saffron
  • Chicken Beaks:  Dark Pumpkin Pie
  • Chicken Wattles:  Light Poppy Parade
  • Top Head Feathers:  Dark Poppy Parade
  • Chicken Bodies:  Light and Dark Cinnamon Cider

The chickens were die cut with their corresponding dies (Chick dies and Birthday Chick dies).  The pecking chicken was adhered near the bottom right corner of the card front with the back end of the chicken 3/16" from the right side of the Basic White panel and the chicken's feet 3/8" above the bottom edge of the Basic White panel.  The dancing chicken was adhered near the lower left corner of the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals with the left edge of the left wing 1/8" from the left side of the Basic White panel and the bottom of the chicken's lower foot 1/4" above the bottom edge of the Basic White panel.

The balloon/string from the chicken with balloon (Hey Birthday Chick) was inked with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamped on three pieces of Thick Basic White cardstock.  The balloons were colored with Light & Dark Poppy Parade, Light & Dark Bermuda Bay, and Light & Dark So Saffron Stampin' Blends Markers.  The balloons were die cut with the corresponding die (Birthday Chick dies).  The So Saffron balloon was adhered to the Basic White panel with the top of the balloon 3/4" below the top edge and the left edge of the balloon 1" from the left edge of the Basic White panel.  The Bermuda Bay balloon was adhered slightly below and overlapping the left edge of the So Saffron balloon.  The Poppy Parade balloon was adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals slightly above and overlapping the right side of the So Saffron balloon.

The sign post die (Chick dies) was used to die cut a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock.  The "hey, chick!" greeting was stamped at the center of the sign post using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The sign post was adhered to the card front at a jaunty angle using Stampin' Dimensionals with the bottom of the sign post tucked behind the right wing of the dancing chicken and the top of the sign post at the bottom of the Poppy Parade balloon.

A torn piece of paper and Blending Brush were used to apply Crumb Cake ink along the bottom edge of a panel of Basic White cardstock.  The chicken wire die (Chick dies) was used to die cut a piece of Basic Gray cardstock that was adhered at the lower right corner of the Basic White panel with the bottom edge of the chicken wire along the top edge of the Crumb Cake ink.  The chicken with balloon (Hey Birthday Chick) was stamped on Thick Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The chicken and balloon were colored with Stampin' Blends Markers:

  • Chicken Head:  Light So Saffron
  • Chicken Beak:  Dark Pumpkin Pie
  • Top Head Feathers:  Dark Poppy Parade
  • Chicken Body:  Light & Dark Cinnamon Cider
  • Chicken Feet:  Dark So Saffron
  • Balloon:  Light & Dark Poppy Parade

The chicken was die cut with the corresponding die (Birthday Chick dies) and adhered at the lower right corner of the Basic White panel with the bottom edge of the chicken 1/8" above the bottom edge of the Basic White panel and the right edge of the chicken 1/4" from the right side of the Basic White panel.  The "you're still a spring chicken" sentiment (Hey Birthday Chick) was stamped to the left of the balloon using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The "Happy Birthday" sentiment (Hey Birthday Chick) was stamped below the "you're still a spring chicken" using Poppy Parade ink.

Chicks_HeyChick_Envelope

The "let's CELEBRATE you" greeting was stamped at the center of the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The confettti stamp (Hey Birthday Chick) was randomly stamped around the greeting using Poppy Parade ink.  Tip:  Place a scrap piece of paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to contain the stamping to the envelope flap.

I know that coloring is not everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoy it--especially when I have fun images to color.  Whether you use Watercolor Pencils with Blending Pen, colored pencils, ink with Blending Pen, ink or Watercolor Pencils with Water Painters, or ink with Blending Brushes I hope you'll give yourself a treat and take the time to color.  It's so relaxing and the results are always a unique expression of your talent.
