Today's post provides the how-to's for creating one of the cards designed for the Inky Friends Love It Live It Share It Blog Hop in February where we featured stamp sets from the Occasions Catalog. I chose the Truly Tailored stamp set. To see a line up of all the Stampin' Up! artists who participated in the hop, click here. To begin the hop, click here.
When I first saw the Tailored Tag punch, I immediately thought of using it with the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper to create an inlaid wood pattern. I think that this pattern is the perfect background for a masculine card with a bright birthday wish.
To create the background, I punched 17 pieces from assorted sheets of the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper stack using the Tailored Tag punch, ensuring that the wood grain is consistent from punch to punch. This means that the wood grain should be either vertical or horizontal for all of the punched pieces. For this background, the wood grain runs along the widest part of the punch. Since this punch has a symmetrical shape, the edges will butt up snugly together.
Cover a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock with adhesive and then place the first punched piece of paper on the cardstock. Then add the next punched piece so that two short ends are next to each other. Then add the next punched piece so that the diamond part of the punched piece points to the "seam" between the two short ends of the first two pieces. Continue adding the punched pieces until the Very Vanilla cardstock is completely covered. Note that the punched pieces on the outer edges will extend beyond the edges of the Very Vanilla cardstock. Flip the Very Vanilla cardstock over and use Paper Snips to trim along the edges of the Very Vanilla cardstock to trim off the excess punched paper pieces so that the punched paper pieces are flush with the edges of the Very Vanilla cardstock.
Die cut a piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock with the Big Shot using the Lots of Labels Framelits (2-1/8" x 3-1/2"). Create a hole at the rounded end at the right and left sides of the die cut using the 1/8" handheld circle punch. Thread a piece of Copper Trim through each of the holes, adhere the die cut at the center of the background, and then adhere the ends of the Copper Trim behind the right and left ends of the background piece. Mat the background piece with a slightly larger piece of Copper Foil Sheets and then adhere the background pieces at the center of the card front. The card base is created from Chocolate Chip cardstock.
Swipe the Embossing Buddy over a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. Using Versamark ink, stamp the "Wishing You A Dapper Day" greeting on the Very Vanilla cardstock, cover with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder tapping the excess back into the container, and melting the embossing powder with the Heat Tool. Die cut the greeting using the Big Shot and the Lots of Labels Framelits (1-3/4" x 2-7/8"). Adhere the greeting at the center of the Chocolate Chip die cut using Stampin' Dimensionals.
The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. The Embossing Buddy was swiped over the cardstock and the bow tie image was stamped along the top and bottom edges of the liner using Versamark ink. The stamped images were covered with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder, the excess powder tapped back into the container, and the powder melted with the Heat Tool. The "Hoping Your Birthday Is As Grand As You!" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of the liner using Chocolate Chip ink.
The bow tie image was stamped in rows across the flap of the Medium Very Vanilla Envelope using Chocolate Chip ink. [Tip: Place a scrap piece of paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to ensure that the bow ties are stamped only on the envelope flap.]
