Label Me Pretty -- Thank You For Caring (Portrait or Landscape?)

Happy Friday!

I am so ready for this weekend!  Are you?  I'm taking Monday off from my driving job, Tuesday is a holiday, and Wednesday is my day off from my driving job so I have a mini vacation.  Woohoo!  I hope you have something fun planned for the holiday weekend--even if it's just to stop for an hour to take a nap.  [Naps are completely underrated.]

Today's post is a card I designed for my June Stamp Clubs featuring the Label Me Pretty bundle with assistance from the watercolor designs in the Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper.  Have you seen this paper???  It's so amazingly gorgeous!

This card begins with a card base of Calypso Coral.  A piece of the Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper was adhered at the center of a panel of Pool Party cardstock.  The cardstock/Designer Series Paper was adhered at the center of the card front.

Banner tails were cut into the ends of a piece of Old Olive 3/8" Mini Chevron ribbon using Paper Snips.  The ribbon was folded in half and adhered near the bottom right of the card front.  The fold of the ribbon is 1-1/4" from the right edge and 1-1/2" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper.

The Pretty Label punch was used to punch the same piece of Designer Series Paper, but this time the flip side of the paper will be visible to frame the greeting.  However, I quickly realized that the punched paper needed a little more separation from the card front to give it a little more "punch".  So I decided to mat the punched paper with Pool Party cardstock using the Pretty Label punch.  Since the Pool Party punched piece and the paper punched piece would be the same size, I needed to "enlarge" the cardstock punched piece.  This is how I did it:

  1. Punch two (2) Pool Party cardstock pieces using the Pretty Label punch
  2. Cut the left and right scallop ends from one of the punched pieces by clipping toward the center
  3. Cut the second punched piece in half along the horizontal
  4. Adhere the left and right scallop ends behind the left and right scallop ends of the paper punched piece leaving 1/16" of the cardstock extending beyond the right and left sides of the paper punched piece
  5. Adhere the top half of the cardstock punched piece behind the top edge of the paper punched piece leaving 1/16" of the cardstock extending above the top of the paper punched piece
  6. Adhere the bottom half of the cardstock punched piece behind the bottom edge of the paper punched piece leaving 1/16" of the cardstock extending below the bottom of the paper punched piece

The matted label was adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals with the center of the label over the fold of the ribbon.  The "Thank You For Caring" greeting, from the Label Me Pretty stamp set, was stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Calypso Coral ink.  The greeting was punched with the 1-3/8" circle punch and adhered at the center of the label using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Three 3 mm pearls from the Pearl Basic Jewels were adhered across the card front.

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The flourished label outline image, from the Label Me Pretty stamp set, was stamped at the upper center of the liner using Pool Party ink.  The "You're the Best" image was stamped at the center of the label using Calypso Coral ink.

The long stem image, from the Daisy Delight stamp set, was stamped in three heights at the lower left corner of the liner using Old Olive ink.  The corresponding tiny daisies image was stamped along each of the stems using Pool Party ink.  [The images in the Daisy Delight stamp set are photopolymer so it's easy to line the daisies up with the stems.  Tip:  For best results it's always best to use the Stampin' Pierce Mat with photopolymer stamps.]

The stems and daisies from the Daisy Delight stamp set were stamped along the left front bottom edge of the Medium Whisper White Envelope using the same process used for the liner.

The "Thank You For Caring" greeting was stamped at the center of the envelope flap using Calypso Coral ink.

One of the things I stress to my Stamp Club members is that I may design a card for them to create, but the card they are making using that design should be their own.  Therefore, when we create with Designer Series Paper I remind them that they should look at both sides of the paper to determine how they will incorporate the paper into the card design.  You can imagine their concern when they saw the other side of the paper...

  • The watercolor flowers on the flip side were stunning and so they really wanted to feature that side of the paper.  However,
  • The design on the flip side had a distinctive vertical pattern that was at odds with the original card design

So I told them to flip the card design from portrait to landscape.

The watercolor designs in this paper are just stunning!!

And here is what the liner looks like in the landscape orientation.

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it a million more times, but I just Love, Love, LOVE Stampin' Up!'s Designer Series Papers.  The color coordination within each paper package is just amazing.

You may be wondering why I didn't go with the landscape orientation for my sample card design...  The Host for one of my June Stamp Clubs hates daisies.  Seriously!  I wanted to use the Delightful Daisy paper because I knew everyone would fall in love with it but needed to show my Host some love, too.  So I chose a card design that would work with both sides of the paper.  So which card do you like best?  The portrait version or the landscape version?
