That's The Tag -- Happy Birthday

Hello!

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit!  I'm wrapping up from a weekend of stamp club meetings and the resulting paperwork but wanted to take a few minutes to share the how-to's for making one of the cards I featured during the Stampin' Addicts Occasions Catalog Blog Hop from last weekend.  If you haven't had a look at all the great ideas shared during the blog hop, you can still check them out by clicking here.

I love creating.  My favorite thing is to pick up a stamp set, pull out some Designer Series Paper and cardstock, grab some ink and embellishments and go to town.  I am immersed in my happy place.  However, from time to time I hit a creative road block:  my mind just goes blank.  That's when I pull out my go-to card design.  It's one of the first designs I learned, it's simple, and it has never failed me.  The best part?  I can create a card in minutes.  Definitely a winner!

ItsATag_HappyBirthday

This card begins with a panel of Mint Macaron cardstock.  A slightly smaller piece of Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper was cut into two pieces.  The first piece was adhered near the top edge of the Mint Macaron panel leaving the same amount of space between the left, right, and top edges of the Mint Macaron panel and the left, right, and top edges of the paper.  The second piece was flipped over and adhered near the bottom edge of the Mint Macaron panel.

A strip of Gold Foil sheets was adhered over the transition between the top and bottom pieces of the paper with the right and left sides of the strip flush with the edges of the paper.  A slightly smaller strip of Mint Macaron cardstock was adhered across the center of the Gold Foil sheets strip.  A Lace Doily was adhered at the center of the Mint Macaron strip.

The Mint Macaron panel was adhered at the center of the Tip Top Taupe card front.

The tag is composed of a piece of Whisper White cardstock die cut with the Big Shot using the solid tag framelit and the "sunburst" tag shape die cut from a piece of Gold Foil sheets using the "sunburst" thinlits.  Both of these tag shapes come from the Timeless Tags Thinlits.  Place teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive on the back of the Gold Foil "sunburst" and place at the center of the solid Whisper White tag making sure that the die cut hole is located between the rays of the "sunburst".  [I had some difficulty getting the two tags to adhere as the Gold Foil tag shape kept wanting to pop up before the adhesive could take.  So I placed an Acrylic "D" Block on top of the tags for a couple of minutes.]

Using Old Olive ink, the horizontal flower border image from the That's The Tag stamp set was stamped at the center of the Whisper White tag.  Using Sweet Sugarplum ink, the "Happy Birthday" greeting was stamped inside the horizontal flower border.  A piece of Gold 1/8" ribbon was threaded through the die cut hole.  The tag was adhered at the center of the Lace Doily using Stampin' Dimensionals.

ItsATag_HappyBirthday_Liner

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The dotted oval border image was stamped near the upper center of the liner using Sweet Sugarplum ink.  The wildflower image was stamped across the bottom left of the oval.  The "Hoping Your Day is Perfect" sentiment, from the Suite Sentiments stamp set, was stamped at the upper right of the oval using Mint Macaron ink.

ItsATag_HappyBirthday_Envelope

The wildflower image was stamped at the lower left front of the Medium Whisper White Envelope.  The "Happy Birthday" greeting was stamped to the right of the wildflower image using Sweet Sugarplum ink.

While there are a lot of words in this blog post that may lead you to think that this card is more complicated to make than first described, once you make a card using this design, you can see that there are some real benefits to this design.  Especially when you use Stampin' Up!'s Designer Series Paper.  That's because Stampin' Up!'s designers ensure that the designs in each paper package or paper stack coordinates beautifully making it easy to use this card design with just a flip of the paper.

Hello!  Welcome to the Stampin' Addicts Occasions Catalog Blog Hop featuring the That's The Tag stamp set.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

To see the line up of artists for the hop, click here.  If you've already joined the hop and are traveling forward, you've arrived from Twila's blog where you were presented with fun ideas using the Yummy In My Tummy stamp set.  If you're traveling backwards through the hop, you've seen Heidi's projects made with the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set.  All I can say is that there are some AMAZING projects for you to see using items from the Occasions Catalog (and probably a few items from the Sale-A-Bration brochure, too!)

I have two projects to share with you.  Both projects utilize the coordinating Timeless Tags Thinlits to create the tags on the cardfronts.  I've highlighted the Occasions Catalog items with YELLOW in the supply list below each photo.

Any Occasion -- It's a Boy (Gift Card Holder)

Hello!

It's a pretty chilly day here in East Central Florida.  We'll have our day or two of Winter and then settle back into the more reasonable temperatures.  But for right now the heater's on and we're shivering and trying to understand why there's bright sun and no warmth.

Today's post is a follow-up to last weekend's Stampin' Addicts Sale-A-Bration Blog Hop to discuss the new baby gift card holder.  [If you haven't had a chance to go through the hop to see all the great ideas using Sale-A-Bration stamp sets, be sure to do so.  To begin the hop, click here.]

I learned to make this card from my Stampin' Up! upline, Catherine Harwood, at a team training event last November.  The card we made for that event had a Christmas theme, but the card design lends itself to Any Occasion (Sale-A-Bration stamp set reference intended...).

I don't make baby cards very often as my children are pretty much done having children and my friends and relatives are not in active baby mode right now.  But when I saw the "It's A Boy" and "It's a Girl" sentiments with the Any Occasion Sale-A-Bration stamp set I really wanted to find a way to use one of them without hanging them from the banner string.  Then I remembered that I had purchased the Baby's First Framelits and realized that the "It's A Boy" sentiment would fit across the die cut onesie.  Now it was just a matter of finding the right paper to put it all together.

Any_Occasion_ItsABoy

I have always liked the concept of Little Star with new babies, so I chose the Seaside Shore and coordinating By the Shore Designer Series Paper for this card because of the adorable starfish images and the soft colors of the Designer Series Paper.  You have the nice pastel look that isn't too girly for a baby boy card.

This card begins with a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock cut to 4-1/4" x 11" and scored and folded at 5-1/2" along the 11" length.  Then the card front was folded into the inside of the card so that the bottom edge of the card front rests just next to the center center fold line but DOES NOT cross the fold line or rest on top of it.  This is done so that the card can close easily.  Be sure to use the bone folder to make those folds nice and crisp.  The card front folds are opened up and the bottom edge of the card front is inserted into the Classic Label punch so that the bottom edge goes all the way into the paper slot and the left side of the card front is flush along the outside edge of the punch.

Any_Occasion_ItsABoy_Inset1

Punch the label and then slide the cardstock over so that the right side of the cardstock is flush with the right side of the punch and the paper is still all the way inside the paper slot.

Any_Occasion_ItsABoy_Inset2

Punch the label.  Place Tear & Tape adhesive along the right, left, and bottom edges of the area punched, but DO NOT go over the fold line.

Any_Occasion_ItsABoy_Inset3

Remove the adhesive covers and fold the punched area over making sure that the right and left edges are flush.

A piece of Mint Macaron bubble patterned paper was adhered to the Dapper Denim card front.  A piece of Calypso Coral starfish patterned paper was adhered to a slightly larger piece of Mint Mararon cardstock.  Very Vanilla 1/4" Satin ribbon was wrapped around the panel and knotted on the left side of the panel just below center.  The "It's A Boy" image from the Any Occasion stamp set was stamped on a piece of Dapper Denim ombre paper and die cut with the Big Shot using the onesie framelit from the Baby's First Framelits.  The Dapper Denim Stampin' Write Marker was used to make the "shoulder seams" and "stitching" around the neck, sleeves, and legs of the onesie.  The onesie was attached to the right side of the panel using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The panel was attached to the cardfront using Tear & Tape Adhesive ONLY on the part of the panel that is attached to the card front.

Any_Occasion_ItsABoy_Sentiment

The inside sentiment area was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.  The banner string image was stamped at the left center of the liner using Dapper Denim ink.  The "Congratulations" sentiment was stamped to hang from the banner string using Calypso Coral ink.  The small banner image was stamped next to the "C" and "S" on the banner string using Mint Macaron ink and the small starfish image, from the Seaside Shore stamp set, was stamped at each end of the banner string to anchor the banner to the liner.  The small and large starfish images, from the Seaside Shore stamp set, were randomly stamped over the left side of the liner using Mint Macaron and Calypso Coral inks, stamping off the images before stamping on the liner.

Here's what the inside of the card front looks like with the gift card inserted in the punched slot.

Any_Occasion_ItsABoy_GiftCardPouch

Stamped elements of the liner were repeated for the envelope.

Any_Occasion_ItsABoy_Envelope

The banner string image was stamped at the center of the Medium Very Vanilla Envelope flap and then to the right and left side of the center banner using Dapper Denim ink.  The small starfish image, from the Seaside Shore stamp set, was stamped where sections of the banner string meet using Dapper Denim ink.  The "Congratulations" sentiment was stamped to hang from the center banner string using Calypso Coral ink.  The mini banner image was stamped along the right and left banner strings using Mint Macaron ink.

Any_Occasion_Clip

I really like this card design for a gift card holder and plan to use it frequently as gift cards seem to be the gift of choice for most occasions.  Think about all the scraps of Designer Series Paper you have that would work on the panels of this design, the great sentiments of the Any Occasion Sale-A-Bration stamp set, and you can have a stack of gift card holders ready to go in no time at all!  The best part is that during Sale-A-Bration, the Any Occasion stamp set is FREE with a purchase of $50 USD in Stampin' Up! merchandise.  [Hint:  The Seaside Shore stamp set is $21.00 for Clear Mount, the By the Shore Designer Series Paper $11.00, and the Classic Label punch is $18.00 which just happens to add up to $50.]

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!  Stay warm!

This card begins with a piece of Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack matted with a piece of Flirty Flamingo cardstock and adhered at the center of the Emerald Envy card front.  Tim Holtz Distress micro Glaze was applied sparingly along the outside edges of a piece of Watercolor Paper with the fingertip and then burnished off with a dry paper towel.  (The micro Glaze creates a waterproof area on the Watercolor Paper.)  Flirty Flamingo ink was pressed onto the inside of the ink pad lid and picked up with a damp AquaPainter and scrubbed over the center of the Watercolor Paper to create the background rectangle.  Note that I DID NOT wet the Watercolor Paper before applying the ink.  Once the background area was dry, the banner string image from the Any Occasion Sale-A-Bration stamp set was stamped across the background using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Gold Hearts, from the Metallic Enamel Shapes, were placed at each end of the banner string to "anchor" the string to the background.  The "Thank You" banner image was stamped onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock using Emerald Envy ink, cut out with Paper Snips, and adhered to the banner string using Mini Glue Dots.  The Watercolor Paper was adhered at the center of a slightly larger piece of Gold Foil Sheets and then at the center of the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Any_Occasion_ThankYou_Inside

The inside sentiment area was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  A strip of Flirty Flamingo cardstock was adhered behind the top edge of a strip of Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack so that just a peek of the Flirty Flamingo rises above the top edge of the paper strip.  The cardstock/paper strip were adhered along the bottom edge of the liner.

Any_Occasion_ThankYou_Envelope

The banner string image was stamped across the top left corner of the Medium Whisper White envelope using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The "Thank You" banner image was stamped onto the banner string using Emerald Envy ink.  And the heart and tassel images were stamped at each end of the banner using Flirty Flamingo ink.

This card was super quick and easy to make which was a requirement for me as I have quite a few Thank You cards to make for December events.

Be sure to check back on January 4th to see the Sale-A-Bration brochure AND the Occasions Catalog.  With all the great new items available in the Occasions Catalog, you will find it very easy to earn your FREE Sale-A-Bration items.  Both of these catalogs will be posted to the sidebar of this blog page and at the Stampin' Up!
