Jar of Haunts -- Mummy in a Jar
10/09/2016
Hello there!
It's nice to sit down to type for a little while. The last week has been rather hectic with hurricane stuff so I'm really needing a dose of "normal" to settle down and get back into a more realistic routine. I wish I could say that for my blogging lately, and am thankful for the Stamp Review Crew for keeping me motivated create and post.
My projects for the last Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop featuring the Jar of Haunts stamp set were pretty basic, so I'll be posting those projects first -- and because Halloween is almost here! If you haven't taken the time to see all the great ideas using the Jar of Haunts stamp set, I hope you'll do so. They are just too darn cute!! Just click here to start the hop.
This card begins with a card base of Basic Black cardstock. A strip of Basic Gray cardstock was embossed with the Big Shot using the Brick Wall Textured Impressions embossing folder. A sponge with Basic Gray Archival ink was lightly rubbed over the bricks and around the edges of the cardstock to bring the bricks into higher relief. A piece of Smoky Slate 1/8" Stitched ribbon was adhered along the top edge of the brick wall with the ends of the ribbon folded to the back of the cardstock. The cardstock was adhered to the card base aligning the bottom, right, and left edges of the brick wall with the bottom, right, and left edges of the card front.
The spider web image, from the Ghoulish Grunge stamp set, was inked with Whisper White Craft ink and stamped at each of the top corners of the card front. Tip: Craft ink is thicker than Classic ink and takes a few minutes to dry; so set the card aside while you're working on the rest of elements for the card front.
Stamp the mummy image from the Jar of Haunts stamp set on Whisper White cardstock using Basic Gray Archival ink. Using a Blender Pen and Smoky Slate ink, make long strokes along the wrapper lines on the mummy. Begin at the same side of the jar every time and make one long stroke along each line. If the Blender pen ink gets lighter as you go, that's good! Using Staz-On Jet Black ink, stamp the jar image on Window Sheets. Using the Big Shot and the medium sized jar framelit from the Everyday Jars Framelits, die cut the mummy and the jar with the Big Shot. Place a Mini Glue Dot on the back of the die cut jar on the left and right sides of the neck of the jar and adhere the jar to the mummy. Adhere the mummy in a jar to the card front, tucking the bottom edge of the jar behind the top edge of the brick wall. Using Basic Gray ink, stamp the jar lid from the Jar of Love stamp set on Whisper White cardstock. Using the jar lid framelit from the Everyday Jars Framelits, die cut the jar lid with the Big Shot. Place a Mini Glue Dot behind the left end of the jar lid and adhere the left side of the lid to the left side of the jar with the jar lid looking like it's beginning to pop up on the right side.
Using Tangerine Tango ink, stamp the pumpkin image from the Jar of Haunts stamp set twice on Pumpkin Pie cardstock, reinking between each stamping. Using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp the "Happy Halloween" greeting at the center of one pumpkin and a pumpkin face image at the center of the second pumpkin. Cut each pumpkin out with Paper Snips. Using Basic Gray ink, stamp the pumpkin stem/leaf image twice on Whisper White cardstock, reinking between each stamping. Using the Blender Pen, color the leaf using Old Olive and Always Artichoke and color the stem using Chocolate Chip ink. Cut out the pumpkin stem/leaf images using Paper Snips. Place a Mini Glue Dot behind the top center of each pumpkin and adhere the bottom edge of the pumpkin stem/leaf images to each pumpkin. Adhere the "Happy Halloween" pumpkin to the card front at the lower right corner on top of the brick wall. Set the second pumpkin aside for the liner.
The inside sentiment area of the card is lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock. The second pumpkin is adhered at the lower right corner of the liner. The candy corn image was stamped along the top edge of the liner in two rows using Basic Gray Archival ink, reinking with each image stamped. The first row of stamping has the the flat edge of the image at the top and the second row of stamping has the flat edge of the image at the bottom. When you stamp them this way, the two rows of images seem to fit right into each other (just like they were in a jar -- hint, hint...). Using the Blender Pen, color the candy corn with Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight ink.
The envelope flap of the Medium Whisper White Envelope was placed inside the Brick Wall Textured Impressions embossing folder and embossed with the Big Shot. A sponge with Basic Gray Archival ink was lightly brushed over the bricks to bring the embossing into higher relief. Tip: Place the envelope face down on the work surface and a piece of scrap printer paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to keep the ink from the sponge from getting on the rest of the envelope.
I'll be back soon with the instructions for the second Halloween card featuring the Jar of Haunts stamp set.
Now back to cleaning up from the hurricane. We are very fortunate that our clean up consists of putting away the items we took with us when we evacuated, cleaning up yard debris from our oak trees, removing/storing the hurricane panels, and putting our yard and pool area items back where they belong (planters, porch swings, tacky plastic flamingos, etc.). My husband has decided to only remove the hurricane panels and leave them near the windows until Matthew decides where he'll end up on his return loop. We'll hope for the best. It's just one of the things you learn to do when you live near the ocean.
