Jar of Haunts -- Happy Halloween

Hello!

Today's post is another Halloween card from the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop featuring the Jar of Haunts stamp set.  To see all the great ideas from this hop, click here.

Halloween is really not one of my favorite holidays, but I had a lot of fun with this stamp set and the jars.

SRC_JarofHaunts_HalloweenJars

This card begins with a card base of Pumpkin Pie cardstock.  The brick wall and net images, from the Ghoulish Grunge stamp set were randomly stamped over the card front using Soft Suede ink.  The edges of the card front were sponged with Soft Suede ink.  A strip of Basic Black cardstock was stamped with the cheesecloth image, from the Ghoulish Grunge stamp set, using Whisper White Craft ink.  The Basic Black cardstock was adhered to the card front with the left, right, and bottom edges of the Basic Black cardstock aligned with the left, right, and bottom edges of the card front.  Tip:  Whisper White Craft ink takes a few minutes to dry.  Be sure that the ink is dry before adhering the cardstock to the card front.

Now it's time to make some jars:

  • Using Staz-On Jet Black ink, stamp the medium jar image from the Jar of Haunts stamp set twice on Vellum cardstock, reinking between each image stamped.  Then stamp the medium jar image twice on Window Sheets using the Staz-On Jet Black ink, reinking between each image stamped
  • Once the ink has dried on the jars stamped on the Window Sheets, stamp the floating eyes image on the back side of one of the medium jars using Staz-On Jet Black ink.  Using Red Fine Tip Sharpie marker, color in the irises and draw over the lines of the floating eyeballs stamped on the back of the Window Sheets
  • Once the ink has dried on the jars stamped on the Vellum cardstock, using Staz-On Jet Black ink, stamp the candy corn image inside the bottom edge of one jar with the flat side of the image near the bottom edge of the jar.  Reink the candy corn image and turn the stamp so that the flat side faces the neck of the jar and stamp the candy corn image directly above the first stamping.  You'll see that the candy corn seems to nestle together.  Using Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Markers, color the candy corn stamped on the Vellum cardstock
  • Using the medium jar framelit from the Everyday Jars Framelits, die cut the medium jars from the Window Sheets and Vellum cardstock.  Tip:  Ink stamped or colored on Vellum cardstock takes a few minutes to dry.  Be sure the ink is dry before die cutting the jars
  • Place Mini Glue Dots on the right and left sides of the jar neck at the back of the medium jar stamped with floating eyes and adhere to the medium vellum jar (the one without candy corn), aligning the jar outlines.  Using Marina Mist Stampin' Write Marker, add "water" to the vellum by lifting up the Window Sheets to apply the marker ink and using the stamped image on the Window Sheet to guide where the water should go on the vellum.  Place Mini Glue Dots on the right and left sides of the jar neck at the back of the vellum and adhere to the card front with the bottom edge of the jar tucked just below the top edge of the Basic Black cardstock.  The left edge of the jar will be approximately 1/8" from the left edge of the card front
  • Place Mini Glue Dots on the right and left sides of the jar neck at the back of the remaining medium jar stamped on Window Sheets and adhere to the vellum medium jar stamped with candy corn aligning the jar outlines.  Place Mini Glue Dots on the right and left sides of the jar neck at the back of the vellum and adhere to the card front with the bottom edge of the jar tucked just below the top edge of the Basic Black cardstock.  The left edge of the jar will be approximately 1/8" from the right edge of the jar with the floating eyes
  • Using Staz-On Jet Black ink, stamp the small jar image from the Jar of Love stamp set on Vellum cardstock.  Then stamp the small jar image on Window Sheets using the Staz-On Jet Black ink.  Once the Staz-On ink has dried on the jar stamped on the Vellum, stamp the dripping blood image from the Jar of Haunts stamp set onto the Vellum using Staz-On Jet Black ink aligning the top of the stamp image with the neck of the jar.  Using Real Red Stampin' Write Marker, color in the dripping blood.  Once the Staz-On ink has dried on the jar stamped on Window Sheets, flip the Window Sheet over and stamp the spider image from the Jar of Haunts stamp set three times inside the bottom of the jar using Staz-On Jet Black ink, reinking between each stamping
  • Using the small jar framelit from the Everyday Jars Framelits, die cut the small jars from the Window Sheets and Vellum cardstock
  • Place Mini Glue Dots on the right and left sides of the jar neck at the back of the small jar stamped on Window Sheets and adhere to the vellum small jar stamped with dripping blood aligning the jar outlines.  Place Mini Glue Dots on the right and left sides of the jar neck at the back of the vellum and adhere to the card front with the bottom edge of the jar tucked just below the top edge of the Basic Black cardstock.  The left edge of the jar will be approximately 1/8" from the right edge of the jar with the candy corn
  • Using Basic Gray Archival ink, stamp the jar lid from the Jar of Love stamp set three times on Whisper White cardstock, reinking between each image stamped.  Using the jar lid framelit from the Everyday Jars Framelits, die cut the jar lids.  Using Soft Suede ink and a sponge, lightly sponge over the jar lids to give them a dirty, grungy look.  Place a jar lid over each of the jars using Mini Glue Dots

To finish the card front, ink the cheesecloth image from the Ghoulish Grunge stamp set with Basic Gray Archival ink.  Stamp the image on a scrap of paper and then onto a 1" wide strip of Whisper White cardstock.  Using Basic Black Archival ink, stamp the "Happy Halloween" greeting over the cheesecloth image.  Insert the cardstock into the Banner Triple punch using the 1" slot and punch a banner tail at the left side of the greeting.  Using Soft Suede ink and a sponge, sponge the edges of the banner and lightly sponge over the top of the banner to give it a dirty, grungy look.  Adhere the banner to the card front within the open area over the small jar and trim the right edge of the banner flush with the right edge of the card front.  Using Soft Suede ink and sponge, sponge the right edge of the banner.

The inside sentiment area of the card is lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The cheesecloth, net, and brick wall images were randomly stamped along the left edge of the liner using Basic Gray Archival, Basic Black Archival, and Soft Suede inks, respectively.  The edges of the liner were sponged with Soft Suede ink, and the remainder of the liner lightly sponged with Soft Suede ink to give it a dirty, grungy look.

SRC_JarofHaunts_HalloweenJars_Envelope

The cheesecloth, net, and brick wall images were randomly stamped along the left edge of the Medium Whisper White Envelope using Basic Gray Archival, Basic Black Archival, and Soft Suede inks, respectively.  The edges of the envelope front near the stamping were sponged with Soft Suede ink, and the remainder of the stamped area lightly sponged with Soft Suede ink to give it a dirty, grungy look.

I have to say that if I opened up a cabinet to see those jars I may take a step or two back!  Of course, my husband would ignore the left and right jars and grab the jar with the candy corn.  That's his favorite treat; he looks forward to Halloween just to get the candy corn.
