Another post from the road as we are getting to the end of our rail adventure through Colorado. We've had so much fun! Today's train ride was through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad on rail cars that were built in the 1920s and 30s. We dined as First Class passengers would back in the day with incredible scenery passing by through the picture windows. After the rail ride we headed to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Who knew that such an incredible ecosystem existed at so many elevations?!
Today's post provides the how-to's for another of the cards featured during Monday's Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop featuring the Endless Thanks stamp set. If you haven't taken a trip through the hop, please do so. You'll find some really great ideas for using the Endless Thanks stamp set. I hope that these ideas will springboard into the opportunity for you to take the time to thank all those who provide support or service to you. There's no better way to do this than with a hand made card! To see the line up of Stampin' Up! Demonstrator artists for this week's hop, click here. To begin the hop, click here.
I think this is my favorite of the three cards that I made as I found some surprises as this card came together. When I design cards, I have a "picture" in my mind of how the card will look when it's finished. This card bears absolutely no resemblance to the card I envisioned; but I actually like it better than what I had planned!
This card begins with a card base of Delightful Dijon cardstock. The card front was randomly stamped with the splotches image from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set using Versamark ink. A piece of Whisper White cardstock was randomly stamped with the leaf branch image from the Endless Thanks stamp set using Emerald Envy ink. The heart image, also from the Endless Thanks stamp set, was randomly stamped on the Whisper White cardstock using Cajun Craze ink. The Whisper White cardstock was matted with a slightly larger piece of Dapper Denim cardstock.
A piece of polka-dot Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate was cut to the same size as the Whisper White cardstock. The acetate was adhered to the Whisper White cardstock with Mini Glue Dots placed just inside the right and left edges of the Whisper White cardstock approximately 2" above the bottom edge of the Whisper White cardstock. A piece of Delightful Dijon 5/8" Mini Striped ribbon was wrapped around the Whisper White/Dapper Denim cardstock with the ends of the ribbon extending beyond the left edge of the cardstock. A piece of Linen Thread was used to tie the Delightful Dijon ribbon snug to the left edge of the cardstock and tied into a bow. Paper Snips were used to trim the ends of the Linen Thread and the Delightful Dijon ribbon. The cardstock with ribbon was adhered to the card front with the top, bottom, and right edges of the cardstock approximately 1/2" from the right, top and bottom edges of the card front.
The medallion focal point begins with a piece of Whisper White cardstock. Using Emerald Envy ink, the leaf branch image was stamped into a circle with the tip of the branch touching (slightly overlapping) the stem of the next branch to form the circle. The "thank you" greeting was stamped inside the leaf branch circle using Cajun Craze ink. The circle was die cut with the Big Shot using the Layering Circles Framelits (the circle framelit used has a 1-5/8" finished dimension). The die cut circle was adhered at the center of a Delightful Dijon cardstock circle punched with the 1-3/4" circle punch. These circles were adhered to a Dapper Denim cardstock circle die cut with the Big Shot and the Layering Circles Framelits (the circle framelit used has a 1-7/8" finished dimension). Using Stampin' Dimensionals, the assembled medallion was adhered to the card front with the base of the medallion approximately 1/4" above the bottom edge of the Delightful Dijon ribbon and the right edge of the medallion approximately 1/8" from the right edge of the card front.
The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock. The leaf branch image was randomly stamped along the left side of the liner using Emerald Envy ink. A 3/4" wide piece of polka dot Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate was adhered along the left side of the liner with Mini Glue Dots placed at the top right and bottom right corners of the acetate. A 1/4" strip of Dapper Denim cardstock was adhered over the right edge of the acetate using Mini Glue Dots. The "you're a true" sentiment was stamped near the upper left center of the liner using Emerald Envy ink. The "friend" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of the liner using Cajun Craze ink.
The "thank you" greeting was stamped at the lower left corner of the Medium Whisper White Envelope using Cajun Craze ink. The leaf branch image was stamped above and below the "thank you" greeting using Emerald Envy ink. Note that the top branch has the stem on the left and the bottom branch has the stem on the right.
Tomorrow is the final day of our Anniversary trip with a train ride on the Royal Gorge Route. We'll finish the day back in Denver to have dinner with our daughter, son-in-law, and grandson and then it's back to Florida on Friday. We are exhausted and are certainly not ready to get back to the reality of our day-to-day lives. I guess we'll have the weekend to figure it out...
