You're So Lovely -- A Kit With Glamour

Happy Saturday!

Today started out bright and sunny but then evolved into a rainy and cooling mess.  Bummer.  A good time to get caught up on paperwork.  The really cool thing was that I finished sending information to a person I've contracted to update my blog.  So in the near future you'll be seeing a few changes to the look of my blog.  I'm excited about the changes and hope that you'll find them pleasing to the eye.

Today's post features a card making kit that is new with the Occasions Catalog.  I love Stampin' Up!'s kits and this one is very pretty and easy to make.  I think the combination of gold embossing on the card fronts and tags, along with a couple of other gold accents, helps to make the finished cards and tags look pretty glamorous!  The kit comes with all the stuff to make 16 cards and 12 gift bags and tags.  You would need to add the adhesives, the inks, and the stamp set.  The coordinating stamp set is really adorable and has a nice variety of greetings along with a banner image and circle image that coordinates with a framelit and circle punch, respectively.  This kit has been sitting on my work table since December just calling to me to put it together.  So this week I did just that.  Here are the cards.

The kit comes with templates and foam rollers to fill in the solid areas behind the die cuts.  There are also the negatives of the templates to sponge outside the die cuts.  I like that there's this versatility so that you can decide how you want your cards to look.

Here's a closer look at one of the birthday cards using the star die cut with the ink color inside the die cut area.

The star template was placed over the top of the card front and the foam roller inked with Watermelon Wonder ink.  The foam roller was rolled over the template with the result that the ink met the card front only within the star shape.  The template was removed and the star die cut was adhered over the inked star using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.  The Basic Black banner was stamped with the banner image and "Congrats" using Whisper White Craft ink and adhered over the die cut star using Stampin' Dimensionals.  Small and large three dimensional stars were added to the card front and a piece of Basic Black/White Baker's Twine was wrapped around the card front and tied into a bow.

The instructions for the kit don't address stamping for the inside of the card and envelope, but you know that I just can't leave them bare.

I took an extra star die cut and placed it at the inside sentiment area of the card and held it in place with a fingertip.  Using a stipple brush and the Watermelon Wonder ink, I added ink over the die cut to make the star shape appear.  Then I stamped the "enjoy your day" sentiment over the star using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

The star was added to the lower left front corner of the envelope using the star die cut and stipple brush with Watermelon Wonder ink.  Then the "Happy Birthday" sentiment was stamped over the star image using Watermelon Wonder ink.

Here's a card for a wedding.

For this card, the diamond shape was removed from the larger template and placed over the card front.  Using the stipple brush and Mint Macaron ink, I inked the area around the outside edges of the diamond shape.  You can do this with a sponge, but I like the stipple brush better because I'm less likely to get a dark blotch if I press down too hard in one spot.  The diamond die cut was adhered inside the un-inked diamond area using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.  The Kraft banner was stamped with the banner image and the "enjoy your day" greeting using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and adhered over the diamond die cut using Stampin' Dimensionals.  Large and small gold half-ball dots were adhered around the diamond die cut and a piece of Basic Black/White Baker's Twine was wrapped around the card front and tied in a bow.

Mint Macaron ink and a stipple brush were used to add color on top of an extra diamond die cut held in place with my fingertip.  The "The Adventure Begins" sentiment was stamped at the center of the diamond image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

The same process was used to add the diamond image to the lower left front corner of the envelope and the "Congrats" greeting was stamped over the diamond image using Mint Macaron ink.

The glassine treat bags included with the kit were covered with the arrow head template, the foam roller was inked, and then rolled over the template so that the ink was added to the front of the bag.  The die cut tags included with the kit come in three different shapes.  I added color to the center of each tag using the stipple brush and stamped greetings on the tags using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Here's a treat bag and tag used as an envelope for the wedding card.

I really like the gold embossing on the tags and card fronts with the banners, gold star or half-ball dots, and Basic Black/White Baker's Twine.  The gold banner-shaped clips are pretty darn cute, too.  Even after making the 16 cards with matching envelopes and the 12 bags and tags, there were still banners, die cuts, Baker's Twine and a few of the gold star and half-ball dots left over.  I have some great ideas for using those up--even the die cuts I covered in ink to create the shapes on the insides of the cards and fronts of envelopes.  I'll be sharing a couple of those in the next couple of days.

Now that you've seen the kit made up, I hope you'll take a closer look at it.  Making the cards, tags, and treat bags took me a couple of hours and now I'm ready to pop these right into the mail or attach them to my packages.  [Note that the three dimensional gold stars and half-ball dots on the card fronts will require that you add extra postage for hand-cancelling if you mail them in the envelope provided.]

Have a great weekend!
