Flurry of Wishes Jumbo Sized

Hi There!

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday with family and friends.  I was fortunate to have my youngest son and his family visit for Thanksgiving week.  We were very busy with a young family that includes a 2 year old.  We took him to Disney's Animal Kingdom, the Brevard Zoo, an inflatable playground, and did lots of other stuff around the house that included watercolor painting and colored pencils.  It was so fun!  Here is Landon feeding the Lorikeets at the Brevard Zoo.  Don't you just love that face???!!!

It was definitely hard to say goodbye.  Unfortunately, after they left I came down with a bad cold that turned into a sinus infection.  So I've spent the last week medicating and putting the house back together.  I also used the time to start some of my Christmas and December birthday shopping and shipping.  So lots of time with packing boxes, tape, and trips to the Post Office and UPS.  It's a process...

I was able to sneak in some time last week to complete a consignment project for a retiree organization that I belong to.  The assignment:  make a Christmas card that a large group of people could sign for a very special person who donates time to the organization (and a whole lot of other organizations, too).  Here's what I came up with.

Don't worry, you're not seeing a funky photo, this card is oversized.  The card base is a full sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" Pool Party cardstock folded in half.  A panel of Island Indigo cardstock was cut slightly smaller than the card front and adhered to the center of the card front.  Then a panel of Silver Foil Sheets was cut slightly smaller than the Island Indigo panel and adhered at the center of the Island Indigo panel.

Now we'll talk about the stamping.  A piece of Shimmery White cardstock was brushed with the Embossing Buddy and the two largest snowflakes from the Flurry of Wishes stamp set were randomly stamped across the cardstock using Versamark ink.  The images were covered with Clear Stampin' Emboss powder and set with the Heat Tool.  The Watercolor Wash background stamp was inked with Pool Party ink and then lightly misted with water using the Stampin' Spritzer.  The image was stamped at the center of the Shimmery White cardstock.  The Watercolor Wash image was inked and misted again to stamp above the first image and then a third time to stamp below the image.  A paper towel was brushed across the embossed snowflakes to remove the ink from the embossing and the Shimmery White panel was set aside to dry.  (Or you can speed up the process by using the Heat Tool on the low setting.)

Scraps of Shimmery White cardstock were stamped with the two smallest snowflakes using Pool Party ink and punched from the cardstock using the Snow Flurry punch.  The "Sending a Flurry..." sentiment was stamped on a piece of Shimmery White cardstock using Island Indigo ink and die cut with the Big Shot using the Lots of Labels Framelits.  The next size larger framelit was used to die cut a piece of Island Indigo cardstock.  The Shimmery White label was adhered at the center of the Island Indigo label and 3/16" holes were punched at each outside edge of the Shimmery White label using the Crop-A-Dile.  Stampin' Dimensionals were placed at the four corners of the back of the Island Indigo label.

Once the "washed" Shimmery White panel was dry, it was adhered to the center of a slightly larger piece of Island Indigo cardstock.  A length of Silver Metallic Thread was wrapped into loops and the center of the loops adhered to a couple of Mini Glue Dots placed where the approximate center of the label will reside on the front panel.  The loops were gently pulled apart with the fingertips and then the label was adhered to the front panel.  Two pieces of White 3/8" Glitter Ribbon were threaded through the holes at each side of the label and the ends adhered to the back of the Island Indigo panel.  The panel was adhered at the center of the Silver Foil Sheet panel.

This photo gives you a better view of the label and if you look closely, you can just barely see the Silver Metallic Thread .  I promise you it looks a whole lot better in real life.  (If you click on the picture it will open in a larger window.)  The Shimmery White punched snowflakes were adhered randomly across the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The inside sentiment area was lined with a piece of Island Indigo cardstock slightly smaller than the sentiment area.  A piece of Whisper White cardstock was stamped with my favorite greeting from the Versatile Christmas stamp set using Island Indigo ink.  More of the punched Shimmery White snowflakes were adhered at the top right and lower left corners using Fast Fuse.  The Whisper White panel was then adhered at the center of the Island Indigo panel.  A punched Shimmery White snowflake was adhered near the sentiment with a Stampin' Dimensional.

Rather than make an envelope for a card this size, I reached into my envelope stash for a silver foil-lined white envelope I purchased for cards of this size from my local office supply store.  The second largest and two smallest snowflakes were stamped at the lower left front corner of the envelope using Pool Party ink.  The "Merry Christmas" sentiment was stamped over the snowflakes using Island Indigo ink.

I've had the Watercolor Wash background stamp since this year's Stampin' Up! Catalog went live in June.  I've been seeing so many great ideas using this stamp and realized that a card of this size could easily handle the color wash background I envisioned with the emboss resist technique to show off the beautiful large snowflakes in the Flurry of Wishes stamp set.  Using the wash with the Shimmery White cardstock adds an extra element of lushness to the card because the shimmer from the cardstock comes through any ink you put on the cardstock.

I delivered this beauty late last week and was sad to part with it.  However, I feel better knowing that soon it will be going to an excellent home.
