Wishing You Peace at Christmas

Happy Veterans Day!

Military service is a key element of my family.  We have a long tradition of service going back many generations and I am very proud to have been a part of that with my service in the US Navy.  My husband is retired US Navy, my daughter is a US Navy veteran, and my youngest son is currently active duty US Navy.  I also have many others in my immediate and extended family who have served or are currently serving.  I am so very proud of all of them, their contributions, and the sacrifices they have made.  I also want to remember the families of those who have served and the sacrifices that these important people have made, too.  Having been on both sides of that coin, it is a remarkable family that supports a military service member.

Today's post is another Christmas gift packaging idea featuring the Square Pillow Box Thinlits die for the Big Shot and the Peaceful Wreath stamp set.

This project begins with Sahara Sand cardstock die cut in the Big Shot using the Square Pillow Box Thinlits.  The two die cut pieces were randomly stamped with the holly branch image from the Peaceful Wreath stamp set and Versamark ink.  The two pieces were adhered with Tombow Multi Adhesive on the tabs and the adhered areas burnished with a bone folder.  The pillow box was set aside to dry for a few minutes.

A square of Very Vanilla cardstock was marked at the upper center for alignment purposes (note arrow on photo above).  The cardstock was die cut with the inside wreath framelit from the Wonderful Wreath Framelits with the alignment marker on the framelit pointing toward the alignment mark.  The wreath image was stamped on the Very Vanilla cardstock with Mossy Meadow ink aligning the mark on the stamp with the alignment mark on the cardstock.  The stamped image was "colored" using Mossy Meadow, Cherry Cobbler, and Soft Suede inks and the Blender Pen.  The outside wreath framelit was used to die cut the wreath.

Mini Glue Dots were placed on the inside edge of the wreath back and a 1-3/4" circle of Gold Foil Sheets was placed over the opening of the inside wreath edge.  The "Peace" image was stamped at the center of the Gold Foil Sheets circle using Staz-On Jet Black ink.

The bow image was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Cherry Cobbler ink and die cut with the Big Shot using the corresponding bow framelit.  The bow was adhered at the bottom of the wreath using a Mini Glue Dot.

A length of Gold Metallic Thread was wrapped lengthwise around a piece of 4" x 2" cardstock and carefully pulled off pinching the middle of the thread and placing the pinched center on a Mini Glue Dot placed at the back center of the wreath. The loops of the Metallic Thread were moved apart and anchored with four Stampin' Dimensionals.

A length of Mossy Meadow 5/8" Striped Cotton Ribbon was wrapped around the pillow box and adhered with Mini Glue Dots at the front center of the pillow box.  The wreath was adhered to the center of the pillow box over the overlapping ends of the ribbon.

The "Wishing You" sentiment was stamped at the upper left corner of the pillow box front using Soft Suede ink.  Soft Suede ink was used again to stamp the " Christmas" sentiment at the lower right corner of the pillow box front.

I really like the square pillow box.  I have always found the normal rectangular-style pillow boxes a bit limiting for gift packaging, but this box is a good size for gift cards, bracelets, or a small stack of mini note cards and envelopes.  Of course, other items (like tasty treats) will fit in the box and it certainly has loads of uses year round.

Please remember to thank a Veteran for their service on your behalf.  More importantly, please consider donating to a local or national charity that supports Veterans or volunteer at your local VA clinic or support center.
