Papillon Serenity

Hi there!

The last couple of weeks have been a bit of a transition for me.  After a 13 month hiatus, I've returned to work at the Kennedy Space Center.  Transitioning back to working full time has been a little more hectic than I had anticipated; however, things are starting to fall into a routine again.  I think the biggest transition has been for my Shih Tzu, Zorro.  He had gotten used to having my undivided attention while he slept all day or sat in front of the glass storm door at the front of the house to watch the world go by on our very quiet street.  He's definitely not happy to be spending the day alone.

I wanted to make sure that I didn't fall behind on my blog posts, but I've been overcome by events.  Please be patient with me.  I have so much to share with you from the projects I made in July, August and September.

Here's a simple card I made for my BFF Terry's workshop in late July.  I chose the colors for this card from the Color Coach:  Baja Breeze, Island Indigo, and Rich Razzleberry.  I have to admit I was hesitant at first with the selection, but these colors are really lovely together.

This card begins with a card base of Baja Breeze with the large floral butterfly image from the Papillon Potpourri stamp set stamped randomly across the card front using Versamark ink to create a watermark effect.  A panel of Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper featuring Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White in the Fancy Fan design was double-matted with Whisper White and Island Indigo cardstocks.  A piece of Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta ribbon was wrapped around the panel about a third of the way up from the bottom edge and knotted on front.  A strip of Rich Razzleberry cardstock was punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch and adhered to the back left edge of the panel so that half of the punched border is exposed beyond the edge.  The panel was adhered to the card front with the top edge of the panel approximately 3/8" from the top edge of the card front and the right edge of the panel approximately 3/8" from the right edge of the card front.  A simple sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set was stamped on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock using Island Indigo ink and punched out with the Word Window punch.  The sentiment was adhered to the center of a piece of Baja Breeze cardstock punched with the Modern Label punch and adhered to the Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper using Stampin' Dimensionals centered in the area below the ribbon.

Above the ribbon is a piece of Baja Breeze cardstock die cut with the Big Shot using the Clearlits Scallop Rectangle and adhered to the Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper using Stampin' Dimensionals with the top edge of the die cut approximately 3/8" from the top edge of the Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper.  The butterfly antenna image was stamped onto the die cut using Island Indigo ink.  A scrap of Island Indigo cardstock was punched with the Elegant Butterfly punch.  The butterfly was gently folded at the center and adhered to the die cut using Mini Glue Dots placed along the fold.  The large floral butterfly image was stamped on a piece of Vellum cardstock using Rich Razzleberry ink and punched out with the Elegant Butterfly punch.  [Note that ink takes a bit longer to dry on Vellum than it does on regular cardstock.  You can speed up the process by using the Heat Tool on the LOW setting before punching out the butterfly.]  The punched vellum butterfly was gently folded at the middle and adhered to the center of the Island Indigo butterfly using Mini Glue Dots attached at the fold.

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  A piece of Island Indigo cardstock was punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch and adhered behind a strip of Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper so that half of the punched border extends beyond the lower edge of the paper strip.  The strip was then adhered along the top edge of the liner.  The small solid butterfly image was stamped at the lower left corner of the liner using Baja Breeze ink.  The small floral butterfly image was stamped on top of the solid butterfly image using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and Island Indigo ink.  The butterfly antenna image was stamped above the body of the floral butterfly; also using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and Island Indigo ink.

The small solid butterfly image was stamped three times along the lower left edge of the Medium Whisper White Envelope.  The small floral butterfly was stamped on top of the solid butterfly images using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and Island Indigo ink.  The butterfly antenna image was stamped above the body of the floral butterflies; also using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and Island Indigo ink.

I love the quiet serenity of this card.  You could make a stack of these cards and, with the help of the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set, be ready for nearly any occasion.

Gorgeous card! The color coach really is helpful. I am glad you are enjoying your return to work, and I hope Zorro isn't getting into too much trouble! I have one dog that gets into trouble the minute there are no people in the house... the little brat :)

The colors DO work wonderfully well together - almost tropical feeling! Sorry Zorro is feeling neglected, poor little guy. Did he get his name from that adorable mask?
