This blog post features the first of three cards inside the Smooches for Mom card box featured in this post.
With the warm weather firmly entrenched in this part of Florida, Summer isn't a wish...it's a reality. Now thoughts turn to keeping cool. So how about a slice of watermelon or a cherry popsicle? Sounds wonderful!
This card begins with a piece of Basic Black cardstock spritzed with a couple of drops of Frost White Shimmer Paint in rubbing alcohol and spritzed on the cardstock with a misting spray bottle. Once the cardstock is dry, it's placed face down on the Diagonal Plate placed on the Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Score lines are placed every 1/2" in both directions. The cardstock is turned face up and small white dots are added at all the score line intersections using the White Signo Uniball Gel Pen. One edge of a piece of Garden Green cardstock is punched with the Eyelet Border punch and the "congratulations" sentiment, from the Delightful Dozen stamp set, was stamped just above the punched border using Early Espresso ink. The unpunched edge of the Garden Green cardstock was adhered to the bottom edge of the Basic Black cardstock and then both were adhered to a piece of Whisper White cardstock. A piece of Melon Mambo 1/2" Dotted Scallop ribbon was wrapped around the Whisper White cardstock to cover the transition between the Basic Black and Garden Green cardstocks and knotted at the left side. The Whisper White cardstock was adhered, centered, to the Melon Mambo card base.
The watermelon image, from the Mouthwatering stamp set (available from the Occasions Mini Catalog until April 30th), was inked with the brush tips of Melon Mambo and Garden Green Stampin' Write Markers and stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock. The pen tip of an Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker was used to color in the watermelon seeds--unless you like seedless watermelon and leave the seeds area white. The watermelon slice was cut out with Paper Snips and then pressed, face down, onto the surface of a Versamark ink pad, covered with Melon Scented Stampin' Emboss powder, and heat embossed. The slice was left to cool for a minute or so and then pressed into the Versamark again, covered with Melon Scented Stampin' Emboss powder and heat embossed a second time. This gives the watermelon slice a lovely wet look that makes it seem ready to eat! The watermelon slice was adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
The popsicle image, also from the Mouthwatering stamp set, was inked with the brush tips of Real Red and Crumb Cake Stampin' Write Markers and stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock. The popsicle was cut out with Paper Snips and then pressed, face down, onto the surface of a Versamark ink pad, covered with Cherry Scented Stampin' Emboss powder, and heat embossed. The popsicle was left to cool for a minute or so and then pressed into the Versamark again, covered with Cherry Scented Stampin' Emboss powder and heat embossed a second time. Like the watermelon slice, the second layer of embossing gives the popsicle a slick, wet look so that you're wondering where the drips are! The popsicle was also adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
The watermelon slice and popsicle were inked again and stamped at the lower left and upper right corners, respectively, of the Whisper White cardstock liner at the inside sentiment area of the card. The pen tip of the Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker was used to color the seeds of the watermelon slice.
The watermelon and popsicle were inked one more time. This time the popsicle was stamped at the lower left front corner of the Medium Whisper White Envelope and the watermelon slice was stamped at the center of the envelope flap. The "congratulations" sentiment was stamped above the watermelon slice using Early Espresso ink. The pen tip of the Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker was used to color the seeds of the watermelon slice.
I found the idea for this card when I noticed that one of my card designs had been pinned on Pinterest. I looked at the pinner's wall, found this card design, and just fell in love with it! You can see the original card here at LeeAnn Greff's Flowerbug's Inkspot blog. LeeAnn is an amazing papercrafting artist; I just LOVE her work!
As a reminder, the Mouthwatering stamp set and the Scented Stampin' Emboss Powders are only available until April 30th from the Occasions Mini Catalog. Just think how your friends will smile when they open the envelope and all those wonderful smells meet them. They'll know for sure that someone thought they were very special.
Thanks so much for stopping by to visit. I'll be back soon with another card from the Smooches for Mom card box.
