CASEing Myself--Again

Hello!

I just love the word "Hello!"  It always brings to mind friendly greetings, smiles and even hugs.  What's not to like?  So when I saw the "Hello" in the Elementary Elegance stamp set, I knew I had to make it a fun element on a card front.  So there I was, sitting at my work table, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the card front when I glanced over and saw the card I made as a swap for last year's Stampin' Up! Convention.  (You can see that card by clicking here.)

Mixed_Bunch_Layered_Flower
(click on card to see larger image)

The card begins with a card base of Poppy Parade, the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  Adhered to the card front is a panel of Soft Suede cardstock, the edges also sponged with Soft Suede ink.  A Poppy Parade panel was stamped with the Curly Label frame from the Elementary Elegance stamp set near the lower right corner using Soft Suede ink.  Then texture was added to the panel with the Backgrounds 1 (Flourish) Texturz Plate.  I liked this texture plate because the flourishes have small leaf-like elements that coordinate beautifully with the leafy vines that twine through the flourishes surrounding the stamped Curly Label frame.  The edges of the panel were sponged with Soft Suede ink and then the sponge was lightly brushed across the embossed texture on the panel to bring them into higher relief.  The Poppy Parade panel was adhered to the center of the Soft Suede panel.

Hello_Inset
(click on "Hello" to see larger image)

The filigreed flower from the Mixed Bunch stamp set was inked with Peach Parfait ink, stamped on a piece of scrap paper and then on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock (a technique called "stamping off").  The "Hello" was stamped at the center of the filigreed flower using Poppy Parade ink.  The cardstock was inserted into the paper slot of the Curly Label punch, centering the "Hello" in the punch window and punched out.  The edges of the punched cardstock were sponged first with Poppy Parade ink and then with Soft Suede ink.  The punched Curly Label was adhered at the center of the Curly Label frame with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Layered_Flower_Inset
(click on flower to see larger image)

The layered flower begins with a piece of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper die cut with the largest flower on the Fun Flowers Bigz L die.  The edges of this flower were sponged first with Poppy Parade ink and then with Soft Suede ink, then the petals were curled under with the Bone Folder.  The flower was adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals placed at the back center of the die cut flower.  The next layer of the flower uses a Peach Parfait patterned piece of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper die cut with the medium sized flower on the Fun Flowers Bigz L die.  The edges of this flower were sponged first with Peach Parfait ink and then with Soft Suede ink, the petals curled up using the Bone Folder, and the flower adhered to the center of the large die cut flower with SNAIL.  The top layer of the flower uses the filigreed flower and circle from the Mixed Bunch stamp set with the Blossom punch and 3/4" circle punch, respectively, at the center of the layered flower.  The flower was stamped with Poppy Parade ink and the circle with Peach Parfait ink.  The flower was punched out with the coordinating Blossom punch, the edges of the flower sponged first with Poppy Parade ink and then with Soft Suede ink, the flower petals curled up with the Bone Folder, and the center of the flower adhered to the medium die cut flower with SNAIL.  The Peach Parfait circle was punched with the 3/4" circle punch, the edges of the circle sponged with Peach Parfait ink, the Soft Suede sponge lightly tapped on the circle, and the circle adhered to the center of the Poppy Parade flower with SNAIL.  A Large Pearl was added to the center of the Peach Parfait circle.

(click on card to see larger image)

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock sponged first with Poppy Parade ink and then with Soft Suede ink.  A piece of Calypso Coral patterned paper from the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper was die cut with the small flower from the Fun Flowers Bigz L die.  The edges of the flower were sponged with Calypso Coral ink and then with Soft Suede ink.  The flower was adhered at the lower left corner of the liner.  The small filigree circle image was inked with Poppy Parade ink on Very Vanilla cardstock and punched out with the 3/4" circle punch.  The edges of the punched image were sponged with Poppy Parade ink.  The Soft Suede ink sponge was lightly tapped on the top of the punched image before it was adhered to the center of the die cut flower.

The filigreed flower image was inked with Peach Parfait ink, stamped on a scrap of paper and then stamped at the lower left front corner of the Medium Very Vanilla Envelope.  The "Hello" was stamped with Poppy Parade ink at the center of the flower and the Soft Suede sponge was tapped lightly across the flower.

Simply Fresh Vintage

Hello!

I'm sitting here with the A/C on and a fan to move the air a bit.  It's a warm day in East Central Florida.  I don't usually have the A/C on this early in the year, but it just got a bit too warm for comfort.  It's only for another 24 hours or so...a cold front is on the way and the temperatures will return to the 60's.  Much more comfortable.

Here's a card I designed for the February meeting of the SASS Stamp Club.  I wanted to showcase a couple of items from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure--the Fresh Vintage stamp set and the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper--and how the two products coordinate so beautifully.

Fresh_Vintage_Note_Card
(click on card to see larger image)

The first thing I pointed out when I demonstrated this card is that the card base uses one of the most overlooked, but cost-effective, products in the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog:  the Note Cards.  There are 20 Whisper White cards AND envelopes in this package for $5.95 (US).  The cards are already scored, so all you have to do is decorate and send!  The finished card is slightly smaller than a card made from a half sheet of cardstock at 3 1/2" x 5", but still a mailable size.

The large image from the Fresh Vintage stamp set was stamped near the upper right corner of the card front using Pool Party ink.  The border image from the Fresh Vintage stamp set was stamped near the lower left front corner of the card front.  A piece of Island Indigo cardstock was punched with the Dotted Ribbon border punch and placed behind the lower edge of a piece of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper so that the scalloped edge just peeks out.  (Note that the piece of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper I chose uses the large image stamped near the upper right corner of the card front to create the Poppy Parade pattern for the paper.)  The paper/punched border was adhered over the top two rows of the Pool Party stamped border.

The postage stamp image was stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Island Indigo ink and cut out with Paper Snips.  The image was adhered to a piece of Poppy Parade cardstock punched with the Scallop Square punch.  The completed focal point was adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

(click on card to see larger image)

The border image was stamped along the left side of the inside sentiment area of the card using Pool Party ink.  The five petal flower image was stamped randomly along the left and right sides of the border image using Pool Party ink.  The same process was used to decorate the left front of the Whisper White envelope.

With such a simple design you could whip up a set of 4 or 5 of these cards in a very short time, tie a ribbon around the bundle of cards and envelopes, add a pretty tag, and present a lovely and much appreciated gift to a friend, co-worker, or Secret Sister.  To make the gift even more personal, use an alphabet stamp set to create a monogram in place of the postage stamp image.  For my more experienced paper crafters, I reminded them that this card design is a wonderful way to use up all those left over scraps of paper and cardstock that you just can't bring yourself to throw away.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Flowing Hearts

Hi there!

One of the really cute stamp sets that you can choose for FREE during Sale-A-Bration (with a qualifying purchase) is called Sprinkled Expressions.  When I first saw it in the Sale-A-Bration brochure, I was reminded of a card I saw flipping through rubber stamping blog sites.  The card had a wavy cut piece of paper adhered to the bottom edge of the card front and a bunch of punched items in various colors adhered along the wavy line.  I thought that this would make a great border treatment for scrapbook pages.  (I wish I could remember where I found the lovely greeting card that inspired these projects because I'd love to give the artist credit for their design idea. )

Sprinkled_Expressions_6x6
(click on scrapbook pages to see larger image)

These 6" x 6" pages begin with base of Pool Party Textured cardstock.  A heart-patterned piece of Island Indigo paper from the Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series Paper (Occasions Mini Catalog) was cut to 3" x 6" and then cut in half through the width making a wavy cut.  The halves were adhered to the bottom edge of each scrapbook page.  Pieces of Pink Pirouette, Lucky Limeade, and Wisteria Wonder cardstock were die cut using the Fashionable Hearts Embosslit (Occasions Mini Catalog) and the Big Shot.  The embossed/die cut hearts were scattered along the top, wavy edge of the Designer Series Paper.

The heart image from the Sprinkled Expressions stamp set (Sale-A-Bration Brochure) was stamped three times on Whisper White cardstock for each scrapbook page using Pink Pirouette, Lucky Limeade, and Wisteria Wonder inks.  The hearts were cut out and adhered along the outer edge of each scrapbook page.  Note that the Wisteria Wonder heart on the left scrapbook page was popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The hearts on the Candy Conversations single stamp (Occasions Mini Catalog) were inked with the brush tip of the Island Indigo, Lucky Limeade, Pink Pirouette, Pool Party, and Wisteria Wonder Stampin' Write Markers and stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  These hearts were also cut out and adhered among the embossed/die cut hearts using Stampin' Dimensionals.

For my non-scrapbooking club members, the scrapbook pages easily transitioned to 3" x 6" cards.

The same process is used, but you can see that one card has a horizontal orientation and the other has a vertical orientation.

The inside sentiment area of each card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  A few of the embossed/die cut hearts were adhered to the liner and loving sentiment from the Sprinkled Expressions stamp set was inked with Wisteria Wonder ink and stamped near the embossed/die cut hearts.

The Candy Conversations single stamp was inked again with the brush tip of the Island Indigo, Lucky Limeade, Pink Pirouette, Pool Party, and Wisteria Wonder Stampin' Write Markers and stamped at the top of the flap of the Whisper White Small Open-End Envelope.

If you're looking for a way to capture Valentine, Anniversary, Wedding, or just a wonderful loving feeling, these scrapbook pages (and cards) certainly fit the bill.   Thanks to the Big Shot, these projects are quick and fun to make.

Belated Valentine's Wishes

Hello there!

I hope that you've been doing well and had a wonderful day full of loving thoughts and feelings on Valentine's Day.  My son and his wife took an extended weekend trip to London and Paris and toured the Eiffel Tower on Valentine's Day.  (My son is in the US Navy and stationed in Sicily at the present time.)  Aren't they just adorable?

(What could be more romantic than Paris on Valentine's Day?)

I realized on Wednesday that I had made a simple Valentine's Day card for the January meeting of the SASS Stamp Club and forgot to show it to you before Valentine's Day.  Bummer!  However, this design would certainly lend itself to Wedding, Anniversary, or Engagement cards.

I love the soft and pretty colors on this card.  I chose the colors, Pool Party and Poppy Parade, to coordinate with the paper at the center of the die cut heart:  Attic Boutique Designer Series Paper.  This card begins with a card base of Pool Party cardstock.  The Adorning Accents Hearts Textured Impressions embossing folder was used with the Big Shot to emboss the rows of hearts at the bottom edge of the card front.  The Big Shot and the 3" x 3 3/8" heart die from the Hearts Collection Framelits was used to cut the heart from the card front and from a piece of the Attic Boutique Designer Series Paper.  Pool Party ink was sponged across the embossed hearts, the edges of the heart die cut on the card front, the edges of the card front, and the heart die cut from the Designer Series Paper.

The edges of a piece of Whisper White cardstock were also sponged with Pool Party ink and adhered behind the card front.  Then the heart die cut from the Designer Series Paper was adhered inside the heart die cut on the card front.  The Valentine's sentiment comes from the Delightful Dozen stamp set and was stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Poppy Parade ink.  The sentiment was matted on a piece of Poppy Parade cardstock and adhered to the upper part of the heart with Stampin' Dimensionals.  (The edges of the Whisper White and Poppy Parade cardstocks were sponged with Poppy Parade ink.)  Whisper White 5/8" Organza ribbon was wrapped around the card front and knotted on the front of the card just below the sentiment.  A Mini Glue Dot was placed behind the ribbon knot to hold it in place at the center.

(click on card to see larger image)

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The bottom edge of the cardstock was embossed with the Adorning Accents Hearts Textured Impressions embossing folder and the edges of the cardstock and embossed hearts were sponged with Pool Party ink.

Embossed_Die-Cut_Valentine_Envelope_Back
(click on envelope to see larger image)

The Adorning Accents Hearts Textured Impressions embossing folder was also used to emboss the flap of the Medium Whisper White envelope.  The Pool Party ink sponge was brushed across the embossed hearts to bring them into higher relief.  You can see on the envelope flap, the Whisper White cardstock at the inside sentiment area of the card, and on the card front that the embossing folder tends to create a few very slight "wrinkles" in the cardstock and paper.  When the ink sponge was brushed cross the embossed areas, the "wrinkles" picked up more color than the other areas of the embossed hearts which seemed to create a somewhat marbled effect on the embossed hearts.  A fun surprise!

(click on envelope to see larger image)

To finish off the envelope, the Valentine's sentiment was stamped at the lower left front corner.

I just love all the new accessories for the Big Shot that are featured in the Occasions Mini Catalog.  AND, did you know that there are a couple of Textured Impressions embossing folders for the Big Shot that you can select for FREE with a $50 merchandise purchase during Sale-A-Bration?  Just look on pages 13 and 16 in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure.  Don't have a brochure?  Just click on the brochure located on the left sidebar of this web page.

I'll be back early next week with another foray into hearts.  Have a great weekend!

Documenting Your Friendships

Hello!

We have lots of friendships throughout our lives.  Some are made when young and last only a school year or a Summer.  Some are specific to clubs, organizations, gym or church, while others may be specific to the workplace.  If we are very lucky we may form a friendship (or two) at a young age that lasts throughout our lives.  I know that I have experienced many of these types of friendships and enjoy some truly wonderful memories of their special significance and impact upon my life.  I think that was why I was so drawn to the Language of Friendship stamp set when I first saw it.  The wonderful quote from Henry David Thoreau so clearly expresses my feelings about the special friendships I've been privileged to share:  The language of Friendship is not words but meanings.

So it only made sense that I would want to document a few of these truly special friendships.

Friends_6x6
(click on scrapbook pages to see larger image)

These 6" x 6" pages begin with a base of Very Vanilla Textured cardstock.  The three-flower stamp image was randomly stamped across both pages using Pool Party ink.  The edges of strips of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper were sponged with Soft Suede ink and adhered to the bottom edge of the left page and the top edge of the right page.  Pieces of Calypso Coral 3/8" Ruffled ribbon were placed at the top edge of the Designer Series Paper strip on the left page and the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper strip on the right page.  The ribbon was anchored in place at the right and left edges of the base pages with cute butterfly brads from the Everyday Enchantment Ribbon & Brad Pack.

For the left page, the "F" image from the Vintage Vogue stamp set was inked with Soft Suede ink and stamped on a piece of Pool Party cardstock.  The image was cut out with Paper Snips and the edges of the cardstock sponged with Soft Suede ink.  A piece of Lucky Limeade 1/8" Organdy ribbon from the Everyday Enchantment Ribbon & Brad Pack was wrapped around the vertical leg of the "F" and knotted.  The "F" was adhered near the left side of the left page border treatment using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The remaining letters of the word "Friends" were created with the Big Shot and lower case letters from the Timeless Type Junior Alphabet Medium Sizzlits dies and pieces of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper.  The edges of the letters were sponged with Soft Suede ink and adhered to the border treatment with SNAIL.  A Lucky LImeade patterned brad from the Everyday Enchantment Ribbon & Brad Pack was used to create the dot for the "i".

For the right page, the Thoreau quote was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Calypso Coral ink, punched out with the Decorative Label punch, and the edges of the cardstock sponged with Soft Suede ink.  The punched quote was matted with Pool Party cardstock punched twice with the Decorative Label punch, cut apart, sponged with Soft Suede ink, and adhered behind the Very Vanilla punched cardstock.  The quote was adhered near the left side of the border treatment using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The bird image was stamped on a piece of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper using Soft Suede ink, punched out with the Bird Builder punch, and the edges of the body and wing sponged with Soft Suede ink.  The body of the bird was adhered to the border treatment just above the ribbon border with Stampin' Dimensionals; the wing of the bird was adhered to the bird body with SNAIL.  A "nest" for the bird was created by wrapping Lucky Limeade 1/8" Organdy ribbon around three fingers 10 times and cinching the ribbon at the middle with a small piece of the ribbon.  The loops at each end were clipped with Paper Snips and the bundle attached below the bird body with Mini Glue Dots.

For the non-scrapbookers among us, the border treatment for the right scrapbook page translates easily into 3" x 6" greeting cards.  The first card mirrors the right scrapbook page.  The inside of the card was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock; the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  The three-flower image was stamped along the left side of the liner using Pool Party ink.

The second card is a variation of the left page border treatment.  The three-flower image was stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock using Pool Party, Calypso Coral, and Island Indigo inks and punched out with the Boho Blossoms punch.  The small and large flowers were combined with Gold Brads and Gold Brads were placed at the center of the medium flowers.  The flowers were placed at the lower right corner of the border treatment.  The matted quote straddles the ribbon border near the upper left side of the card.  The inside of the card was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock; the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  The branch image was stamped near the lower right corner of the liner with Lucky Limeade ink.  The bird body and wing were stamped on a piece of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper using Soft Suede ink.  The bird legs were stamped just above the branch using Soft Suede ink.  The bird body and wing were punched out using the Bird Builder punch.  The body and wing were adhered to the liner using SNAIL.

A piece of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap of the Small Open-End Envelope and trimmed to match the edge of the flap with Paper Snips.  The edges of the flap were sponged with Soft Suede ink.  The front left side of the envelope was stamped with the three-flower image using Calypso Coral ink.

Now that you're thinking about Friendship, I hope you take the time to recognize the importance of the friendships in your life; both past and present.  They are a reflection of the best parts of yourself.
