Flowers and Fans in a Fancy Fold

Hello!

Today's post features another card designed for the Stampin' Addicts Sale-A-Bration Blog Hop.  All of my projects used the Language of Friendship stamp set; but included many of the additional great items you can select for FREE for every $50 in merchandise purchased from Stampin' Up!

Some months ago I received the cutest little card in the mail made by the very talented Grace Benjamin.  I loved the simple look of the card and was intrigued by the fun folds used to make the card.  I wish I could find the card to show you, but take my word for it, it was lovely.  A few months later, I was taught how to make a larger version of Grace's little card by my Stampin' Up! Upline, Catherine Harwood.  It was so easy!  But then, most of the things you think may be difficult to make are usually pretty simple once you know the trick.  I've been planning to make a card like this one for some time and realized the Sale-A-Bration Blog Hop was just the right time to make it.

One of the prettiest pieces of paper in the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper is the one I used for this card.  I just love the striped fans.  The colors in the fans are just so lovely together:  Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade, Pool Party, and Very Vanilla.  So it was easy to decide which cardstock colors to use.  This card begins with a card base of Calypso Coral with accent pieces and matting provided by Pool Party and Very Vanilla cardstocks.

So how is this card cut and folded?  The card base begins with a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 11".  Two cuts were made parallel to the 11" length at 1" from the left and right sides.  These cuts begin at 1" and extend to 6 1/2".  The easiest way to do this is to use the Paper Cutter and the ruler on the cutting track.  First, insert the cardstock to the 1" mark.  Then move the cutting blade to the 1" mark on the cutting track, press the cutting track down, and push the blade into the cardstock.  Move the cutting blade forward along the cutting track to the 6 1/2" mark and lift the cutting track.  Then move the cardstock to the 3 1/4" mark and repeat the process.

The next step involves the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.  Place the 11" length of the cardstock along the top ruler with the 4 1/4" width along the side ruler.  Make score marks at 1", 2", and 6 1/2" from the top edge of the cardstock to the cut line at 1".  Then make score marks at 1", 2", and 6 1/2" from the bottom edge of the cardstock to the cut line at 3 1/4".  The score lines are shown in the photo below with dashed lines and the cut marks with a solid line.

Gently fold the cardstock at the score lines with the fold between the 1" and 2" marks folding down behind the cardstock up to the 1" mark.  Holding that fold in place, bring the opposite end of the cardstock together with the fold and line up the bottom edges.

You'll note that there's a "bubble" of cardstock sticking up.  That's OK.  Holding the bottom edges and the fold firmly together, use the bone folder to flatten the "bubble" and create the top fold of the card.

Once that's done, it's all about the embellishment!

Two strips of Pool Party cardstock were cut to 7/8" x 4 3/8", and one piece of Pool Party cardstock was cut to 2 1/8" x 4 3/8".   The fan print paper from Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper was cut to 2" x 4 1/4" and two more pieces cut to 3/4" x 4 1/4".  The edges of all these pieces and the card front were sponged with Soft Suede ink.  The Designer Series Paper pieces were matched up with the corresponding Pool Party mats, adhered together, and then adhered to the card front.

Another piece of Pool Party cardstock was placed inside the rectangular Designer Frames Textured Impressions embossing folder and run through the Big Shot.  The embossed frame was cut out with Paper Snips, the edges of the frame and embossed areas sponged with Soft Suede ink, and the frame adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals with the top of the frame approximately 7/8" from the top edge of center frame of the card front.  A piece of Very Vanilla cardstock was cut to 1 7/16" x 2 1/16", stamped with the Friendship sentiment from the Language of Friendship stamp set using Lucky Limeade ink, the edges of the cardstock sponged with Soft Suede ink, and the cardstock adhered to the inside of the embossed frame.

The flowers image was stamped three times on Very Vanilla cardstock using Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, and Pool Party inks.  The stamped images were punched out with the Boho Blossoms punch and the edges of all the flowers sponged with Soft Suede ink.  Small flowers were combined with the largest flower with a Gold Brad at the centers.  The three large combination flowers were adhered at the bottom area of the embossed frame using Stampin' Dimensionals.  A Gold Brad was added to the center of a medium flower and adhered among the large flowers with a Mini Glue Dot.

A 7 1/2" piece of Pool Party cardstock was punched with the Lace Ribbon Border punch.  The punched cardstock was run through the Paper Crimper a few times to loosen up the paper fibers to make the cardstock easier to manipulate.  The punched cardstock was smoothed, cut to a width of 3/4", and the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  A piece of Sticky Strip was placed across the 4 1/4" width of the card front just below the 1" score lines.  Then the punched cardstock was finger pleated and pressed into the Sticky Strip with the cut edge even with the top of the Sticky Strip.  Two 2" pieces of Sticky Strip were placed on top of the pleated cardstock leaving an open space at the center.  A sponge with Soft Suede ink was rubbed across the front and back of a 14" piece of Pool Party 3/8" Ruffled ribbon.  The ribbon was wrapped around the bottom of the cardfront, pressed into place on the Sticky Strip, and knotted on front.  Paper Snips were used to trim the ends of the ribbon.

Pieces of the fan print paper (3/8" x 4") were adhered along the left and right sides of a piece of 3 3/4" x 4" Very Vanilla cardstock.  The edges of the Very Vanilla cardstock were sponged with Soft Suede ink and the cardstock adhered to the inside sentiment area of the card.  Three of the medium sized flowers were adhered near the upper left corner of the Very Vanilla cardstock using Mini Glue Dots.

A 2 1/4" x 5 3/4" piece of the fan print paper was adhered to the flap of a Medium Very Vanilla envelope.  The edges of the fan print paper that extend beyond the edges of the envelope flap were removed with Paper Snips and the edges of the envelope flap were sponged with Soft Suede ink.

The flowers image was stamped along the left front side of the Medium Very Vanilla envelope using Pool Party ink.

I just love how this card turned out.  Next up are the scrapbook pages featured during the Sale-A-Bration Blog Hop.  I look forward to seeing you then.
