Bright Floral Cards--Part 3 (Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop)

Hi there!  Thanks so much for stopping by to visit!

Here's the fourth installment of the follow-up to the Stampin' Addicts Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop and the third featuring the bright floral cards.  Today's post focuses on the card created to present to the person who received the Stationery Folder as a gift.

As with the previous posts, this card uses the Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper; however, this card has a more "toned down" look by using a contrasting color for the card base.  Like all the other cards created with this great paper, this is a tent fold card with a card base of 4 1/4" x 11" scored at 5 1/2" on the 11" length.

Thank_You_Card
(click on card to see larger image)

The card base for this card is Marina Mist.  A piece of Bashful Blue cardstock was cut to 4" x 4" and adhered to the card front with SNAIL with the bottom, left and right edges approximately 1/8" from the bottom, left and right edges of the card front.  A 3 3/4" x 4" rectangle of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was adhered to the Bashful Blue cardstock with the bottom, left and right edges of the Designer Series Paper approximately 1/8" from the bottom, left and right edges of the Bashful Blue cardstock.  A 15" piece of Whisper White 5/8" Satin ribbon was wrapped around the card front and knotted on front with the top edge of the ribbon just above the top edge of the Designer Series Paper/Bashful Blue cardstock.

The "You Always Do The Nicest Things" sentiment from the Happy Greetings stamp set was stamped twice on Whisper White cardstock using Pacific Point and Melon Mambo inks.  The image stamped with Pacific Point ink was punched out with the Decorative Label punch.  For the image stamped with Melon Mambo ink, the word "Nicest" was cut out with Paper Snips and attached over the Pacific Point "Nicest" with Stampin' Dimensionals.

It's not easy to see in the photo (unless you look at a larger image), but the Decorative Label-punched sentiment is double matted.  The mat closest to the stamped sentiment is Marina Mist cardstock with the second mat Bashful Blue cardstock.  The Marina Mist mat extends approximately 1/16" beyond the Whisper White and the Bashful Blue mat extends beyond the Marina Mist approximately 1/16", too.  More information about how to create a mat for the Decorative Label punch can be found in this post.  The double-matted sentiment was attached to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals with the top of the sentiment approximately 1/8" from the top of the card front.

A 3/4" x 5 1/4" coordinating strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was adhered along the left edge of the Whisper White cardstock liner (4" x 5 1/4") with SNAIL.  The liner was adhered to the inside sentiment area of the card with SNAIL.

Thank_You_Card_Envelope
(click on envelope for larger image)

A 2 1/4" x 5 3/4" coordinating piece of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was adhered to the Medium Whisper White envelope flap with SNAIL.  The overhang of the Designer Series Paper was removed from the envelope flap with Paper Snips.  It is interesting to note that the paper used on the envelope flap does not seem to match the paper used on the card front or for the liner placed at the inside sentiment area of the card.  However, this piece was cut from the same sheet of paper, it's just that the colors of the flowers change across the width of the paper.

My next blog post (and final follow-up for the Stampin' Addicts Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop) will feature the graduation card I made for a recent graduate of Florida State University.  Definitely no bright flowers on this card!

Bright Floral Cards--Part 2 (Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop)

Hello!

Here's another installment of the follow-up to the Stampin' Addicts Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop.  Today's post focuses on the remaining two cards in the Stationery Folder project featuring the Happy Greetings stamp set.

As with the previous post, these cards use the Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper with all the bright and cheerful colors found in this great paper.  In addition, these are tent fold cards with a card base of 4 1/4" x 11" scored at 5 1/2" on the 11" length.

Hello
(click on card to see larger image)

We'll begin with the card with the Daffodil Delight card base.  All the edges of the card front are sponged with Daffodil Delight ink.  A piece of Pacific Point cardstock was cut to 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" and the edges of the cardstock were sponged with Pacific Point ink.  The cardstock was adhered to the card front with SNAIL with the top, left and right edges approximately 1/2" from the top, left and right edges of the card front.  The edges of a 3" x 4" rectangle of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper were sponged with Pacific Point ink and the rectangle was adhered, centered, on a 3 1/8" x 4 1/8" piece of Wild Wasabi cardstock (the edges sponged with Wild Wasabi ink).  A 12" piece of Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta ribbon was adhered to the back of the Wild Wasabi cardstock with the top edge of the ribbon approximately 1/2" below the top edge of the Wild Wasabi cardstock.  The ends of the ribbon are left hanging loose on the left and right sides of the cardstock.  The Designer Series Paper/Wild Wasabi cardstock is then adhered to the Pacific Point cardstock with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The "Hello Hello Hello" sentiment from the Happy Greetings stamp set was stamped three times on Whisper White cardstock using Wild Wasabi, Daffodil Delight, and Pacific Point inks.  A different "Hello" from each color stamped was cut out using Paper Snips.  Scraps of Daffodil Delight, Wild Wasabi, and Pacific Point cardstocks were cut to "a hair less" than 3/8" x 2".  Placing the Medium Jewelry Tag punch face down on the tabletop, insert the top edge of the Daffodil Delight cardstock into the punch through the punch window (instead of through the paper slot), allowing the cardstock to slide into the paper slot beyond the cutting edge of the rounded top of the tag.  This will allow you to use only the top cutting area of the tag punch and achieve a longer length tag shape.  Holding the cardstock in place, pick up the punch and punch the cardstock.  Apply SNAIL to the Wild Wasabi "Hello" and place it on the tag with the "H" just below the rounded top of the tag.  Using Paper Snips, trim the cardstock just "a hair" below the "O".  Use a 1/16" hole punch to punch a hole in the center of the rounded top of the tag.  Insert a 6" piece of Whisper White Baker's Twine and knot the ends.  The knot should be approximately 3/4" above the top edge of the tag.  Using Paper Snips, trim the ends of the Baker's Twine close to the knot.  Repeat this process for the remaining two "Hello"s, pairing the Pacific Point "Hello" with the Wild Wasabi tag and the Daffodil Delight "Hello" with the Pacific Point tag.

Tie the Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta ribbon on top of the Designer Series Paper so that the first crossing of the ribbon occurs approximately 7/8" from the right edge of the Designer Series Paper.  Before completing the knot, thread one ribbon end through the loops at the top of each "Hello" tag and then make the second crossing of the ribbon to complete the knot.  Adjust the loops of the "Hello" tags so that the knots on the twine are closest to the knot on the ribbon.

A 1" x 4" coordinating strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was punched with the Scallop Border punch along one 4" length and the scalloped edge sponged with Pacific Point ink.  The strip was adhered along the top edge of the Whisper White cardstock liner (4" x 5 1/4") with SNAIL and the edges of the liner sponged with Daffodil Delight ink.  The liner was adhered to the inside sentiment area of the card with SNAIL.

A 2 1/4" x 5 3/4" coordinating strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was adhered to the Medium Whisper White envelope flap with SNAIL.  The overhang of Designer Series Paper was removed from the envelope flap with Paper Snips.

The final card in the Stationery Folder project uses a Tangerine Tango card base.  Of the four cards in the Stationery Folder, this is the quickest one to make.

Who_Loves_You
(click on card to see larger image)

All the edges of the front of the card are sponged with Tangerine Tango ink.  A piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock was cut to 3 5/8" x 3 7/8".  One 3 7/8" width was punched with the Scallop Border punch; then the edges of the cardstock were sponged with Daffodil Delight ink.  The edges of a 2 7/8" x 3 3/4" strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper were sponged with Tangerine Tango ink and the strip was adhered, centered, on the un-punched area of the Daffodil Delight cardstock.  A 15" piece of Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta ribbon was wrapped around the Designer Series Paper/Daffodil Delight cardstock with the top edge of the ribbon slightly above the top edge of the Designer Series Paper and knotted on the front.  The cardstock was adhered to the card front with SNAIL, centering the cardstock between the bottom, left and right sides of the card front.  The edges of the Daffodil Delight cardstock are approximately 3/16" from the bottom, left and right edges of the card front.

The "guess who loves you" sentiment from the Happy Greetings stamp set was stamped, centered, on a 1/2" x 4 1/4" strip of Whisper White cardstock using Tangerine Tango ink.  The Whisper White cardstock was cut 1/8" to the right of the right bracket and 1/8" to the left of the left bracket with Paper Snips (or the Paper Cutter).  "Fish Tails" were cut into one end of each of the cut away pieces of the Whisper White cardstock.  A Stampin' Dimensional was placed at the non-Fish Tail end of each of the cut away pieces and then each piece was placed behind the end of the 2 1/4" stamped piece so that the Fish Tails extend beyond each end of the 2 1/4" stamped piece.  The completed greeting banner was adhered to the card front with two Stampin' Dimensionals placed in the open area behind the stamped greeting.  The top edge of the greeting banner is approximately 3/4" from the top edge of the card front with the tips of the Fish Tails approximately 1/2" from the left and right sides of the card front.

A 3/4" x 4" coordinating strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was punched with the Scallop Border punch along one 4" length and the scalloped edge sponged with Tangerine Tango ink.  The strip was adhered along the top edge of the Whisper White cardstock liner (4" x 5 1/4") with SNAIL.  A 1/2" x 4" coordinating strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was sponged with Tangerine Tango ink and placed along the bottom edge of the Whisper White cardstock liner.  The edges of the liner were sponged with Tangerine Tango ink.  The liner was adhered to the inside sentiment area of the card with SNAIL.

A 2 1/4" x 5 3/4" coordinating strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was adhered to the Medium Whisper White envelope flap with SNAIL.  The overhang of the Designer Series Paper was removed from the envelope flap with Paper Snips.  The edges of the envelope were sponged with Tangerine Tango ink.

My first blog post next week will provide instructions for the card I designed for the recipient of the Stationery Folder.  Have a great weekend!

Bright Floral Cards--Part 1 (Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop)

Hello!

Continuing the follow-up to the Stampin' Addicts Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop, today's post focuses on two of the cards in the Stationery Folder project featuring the Happy Greetings stamp set.

(click on each card to see larger images)

Both of these cards incorporate the Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper and a few of the vivid colors found in this bright and cheerful paper.  These are tent fold cards with a card base of 4 1/4" x 11" scored at 5 1/2" on the 11" length.

(click on card to see larger image)

We'll begin with the card with the Wild Wasabi card base.  All the edges of the front of the card base are sponged with Wild Wasabi ink.  A piece of Tangerine Tango cardstock was cut to 2 5/8" x 5 3/8".  One 5 3/8" length was punched with the Scallop Border punch then the edges of the cardstock were sponged with Tangerine Tango ink.  The cardstock was adhered near the left edge of the card front using SNAIL.  The edges of a 2" x 5 1/4" strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper were sponged with Tangerine Tango ink and the strip was adhered, centered, on the un-punched area of the Tangerine Tango cardstock.

The "Happiness Always" sentiment from the Happy Greetings stamp set was stamped on Whisper White cardstock using Wild Wasabi ink and punched out with the Decorative Label punch.  The edges of the punched sentiment were sponged with Tangerine Tango ink and then matted with Tangerine Tango cardstock.  The edges of the mat were also sponged with Tangerine Tango ink.  (See this post for information about creating a mat for this punched object.)  The sentiment focal point was adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The bottom edge of the focal point is approximately 1 1/8" from the bottom edge of the card front and 1/4" from the right edge of the card front.

Below the focal point, Whisper White Baker's Twine was looped seven times and tied off at the middle with a smaller piece of Whisper White Baker's Twine.  The ends of the twine used to tie off the middle of the bow were cut close to the knot with Paper Snips.  A Clear Rhinestone brad was wrapped around the center knot (clip off any overhang of the brad legs using the Craft & Rubber scissors).  The twine bow was adhered below the bottom edge of the sentiment focal point with Mini Glue Dots.

A 2 1/4" x 5 3/4" coordinating strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper was adhered to the Medium Whisper White envelope flap with SNAIL.  The overhang of Designer Series Paper was removed from the envelope flap with Paper Snips.  The edges of the envelope flap were sponged with Wild Wasabi ink.

Now for the card with the Melon Mambo base.  The layout for this card is very similar to the previous card; the difference is in the Wild Wasabi mat for the Designer Series paper and the sentiment focal point.

All the edges of the front of the card base are sponged with Melon Mambo ink.  A piece of Wild Wasabi cardstock was cut to 3 1/4" x 5 7/16".  One 5 7/16" length was punched with the Scallop Border punch then the edges of the cardstock were sponged with Wild Wasabi ink.  The cardstock was adhered near the left edge of the card front using SNAIL.  The edges of a 2 5/8" x 5 5/16" strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper were sponged with Wild Wasabi ink and the strip was adhered, centered, on the un-punched area of the Wild Wasabi cardstock.

The "Thanks for being a friend" sentiment from the Happy Greetings stamp set was stamped on Whisper White cardstock using Melon Mambo ink and punched out with the Scallop Oval punch.  The edges of the punched sentiment were sponged with Melon Mambo ink and then matted with a piece of Melon Mambo cardstock punched with the Wide Oval punch.  The edges of the oval mat were also sponged with Melon Mambo ink.  A piece of Wild Wasabi cardstock was punched with the Decorative Label punch and the edges sponged with Wild Wasabi ink.  The matted sentiment was adhered to the center of the Wild Wasabi punched label with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The sentiment focal point was adhered to the card front using SNAIL.  The bottom edge of the focal point is approximately 1 3/8" from teh bottom edge of the card front and 1/2" from the right edge of the card front.  Below the focal point, a double bow of Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta ribbon was adhered with Mini Glue Dots.

Stationery Folder How-To (Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop)

Hi there! Thanks so much for stopping by to visit!

Last weekend's Stampin' Addicts Summer Mini Catalog Blog Hop was a great success.  Thanks to all of you who stopped by to visit and left comments.  I really appreciate all your kind words and feedback.

As promised, I'll be providing the how-to's for each of the items shown during the Blog Hop in the next couple of weeks.  We'll begin with the item that received the most attention, the Stationery Folder.

Folder_Front_2
(click on folder to see larger image)

The cardstock base for the folder is Pacific Point with a band of Daffodil Delight and a strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper matted with Wild Wasabi cardstock.  Whisper White 5/8" Satin ribbon provides some shimmer and shine along with the mechanism for closing the folder.

A piece of Pacific Point cardstock is cut to 8 1/2" x 10".  The cardstock is scored at 4 5/8" and 5 3/8" on the 10" length.  It is then scored at 5 7/8" and 6 1/4" on the 8 1/2" width.  The 3/4" x 2 3/4" area between the 4 5/8" and 5 3/8" score lines is cut away as shown in the diagram below.  Fold at all the score lines and sponge all edges on the front of the cardstock with Pacific Point ink.  Two tabs of 3/8" x 7/8" are created from the cut out piece.  Both of these tabs are scored at 3/8" and 3/4" along the 7/8" length.  Sticky Strip is placed at each end of both tabs.

Folder_Diagram
(click on diagram to see larger image--diagram is NOT to scale)

A piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock is cut to 3" x 11".  Both long edges are punched with the Scallop Trim Border punch.  A piece of Wild Wasabi cardstock is cut to 2 1/8" x 11", the edges sponged with Wild Wasabi ink, and adhered, centered, to the un-punched area of the Daffodil Delight cardstock strip.  A strip of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper is cut to 2" x 11", the edges sponged with Wild Wasabi ink, and adhered, centered, along the length of the Wild Wasabi cardstock.  A score line is placed at 4 3/4" along the 11" length of the Daffodil Delight cardstock and SNAIL is applied in the 4 3/4" x 2 1/4" un-punched area.  Place the adhesive-covered area of Daffodil Delight on the front of the folder at the center, aligning the score line on the Daffodil Delight with the score line at the 4 5/8" mark.  (Note that this will leave a small area of Daffodil Delight extending beyond the edge of the Pacific Point cardstock on the folder front.  The top edge of the Daffodil Delight cardstock will be approximately 1 5/8" from the top edge of the Pacific Point cardstock.)

Folder_Outside
(click on the folder to see larger image)

Identify where the next score line on the Pacific Point cardstock (at 6 1/8") meets the Daffodil Delight cardstock and make a pencil line on the Daffodil Delight cardstock.  Using the tip of a bone folder and a ruler, create a score line to the outside of the pencil line.  Apply SNAIL to the 2 1/4" x 5 1/4" area of Daffodil Delight and press in place on the Pacific Point cardstock for the back of the folder.  (Note that there is no adhesive on the Daffodil Delight cardstock on the "spine" of the folder.)  Using Paper Snips, trim overhanging ends of Daffodil Delight/Wild Wasabi/Designer Series Paper flush with the outer edges of the Pacific Point cardstock.

An 18" piece of Whisper White 5/8" Satin ribbon is adhered, centered, to the Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper strip on the "spine" of the folder with a piece of Sticky Strip.  Small pieces of Sticky Strip are placed, centered, at each end of the Designer Series Paper to anchor the ribbon at each side of the folder.  The remainder of the ribbon is left to hang and serves as the tie closure for the folder.  A 4" piece of Whisper White Baker's Twine is threaded under the ribbon at the center front of the folder and tied in a knot to crimp the ribbon.  Paper Snips are used to trim the ends of the Baker's Twine close to the knot.  A double bow is created from another 18" piece of Whisper White 5/8" Satin ribbon and placed on top of the crimped Satin ribbon and attached to the front of the folder with Mini Glue Dots.

Folder_Inside
(click on folder to see larger image)

Two pieces of Daffodil Delight cardstock are cut to 4 5/8" x 2" and adhered, centered between the upper and lower edges of each of the inside flaps of the folder and aligned with the left and right edges of each side of the flap.  Two pieces of Beyond the Garden Designer Series Paper are cut to 4 5/8" x 1 7/8" and adhered, centered between the upper and lower edges of the Daffodil Delight cardstock and aligned with the left and right edges of each side of the flap.

Fold each flap up to the inside of the folder.  Remove the Sticky Strip from one end of one of the tabs and adhere the end of the tab to the inside edge of the left folder flap at the outside edge of the folder, aligning the first score line with the outer edge of the flap.  Remove the second Sticky Strip from the opposite end of the tab and place at the inside of the folder aligning the second score line with the outside edge of the inside of the folder.  Repeat with the second tab for the right side folder flap.

Folder_Front

An awful lot of words to describe a pretty simple way to make a stationery folder.  Give it a try!  You'll soon find that it's a whole lot easier to make than the words may lead you to believe.

The next couple of blog posts will describe the process for making the cards that go into this folder.

Looking forward to your return visit!
