Blushing with Elizabeth

Hello!  Thanks so much for stopping by to visit!

Today's post features Elizabeth; one of the great stamps from the Stampin' Up! 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog that you can get for FREE with a qualifying order during Sale-A-Bration.  You'll find a list of these single stamps and stamp sets inside the last page of the Sale-A-Bration brochure.  [You can view this brochure by clicking on the Sale-A-Bration brochure icon at the left sidebar of this blog through the end of Sale-A-Bration.]  As a reminder, tomorrow (March 31st) is the last day of this great Promotion.  You'll need to place your on-line order before 11:50 p.m. Mountain Time to take advantage of all the great opportunities.

I've had my eye on Elizabeth for some time and I'm really not sure why I waited so long to get this beautiful stamp.  I love the soft filigree and elegant aspect of this single stamp and had all kinds of ideas for how I might use the stamp for cards and scrapbook pages.  So earlier this month when I was placing an order to replenish some supplies [and take advantage of an opportunity to pre-order a stamp set and Designer Series Paper from the 2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalog--it's GOOD to be a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator!] I added Elizabeth to my order as one of my Sale-A-Bration FREE items.

Right after I received my order from my good friend Mr. Brown, I realized that I needed to make a large stack of Thank You cards for all the folks that had placed orders in late February and early March.  Hello, Elizabeth!

Isn't this card pretty?  I just love the combination of Blushing Bride, Pear Pizzazz, and Soft Suede.

Elizabeth was stamped on the Blushing Bride card base using Regal Rose ink.  The edges of the card front were sponged with Soft Suede ink.  Along the left side of the card front rests a strip of Soft Suede cardstock with the inside edge punched with the Eyelet Border punch and the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  On top of the Soft Suede cardstock is a strip of First Edition Designer Series Paper that was distressed by:  (1) stamping the top filigree edge of the Elizabeth stamp randomly over the paper with Regal Rose and Pear Pizzazz inks; (2) crumpling the paper and flattening it somewhat, then lightly brushing the Soft Suede ink pad over the top of the paper, (3) roughing up the edges fo the paper with the edge distressing tool in the Cutter Kit, and (4) sponging all the edges of the paper with Soft Suede ink.  Next a piece of Blushing Bride 1/2" Polytwill ribbon was grunged up a bit by swiping the Soft Suede sponge across the top of the ribbon before placing it at the vertical center of the paper with the ends folded to the back of the Soft Suede cardstock.  Then the Soft Suede cardstock was adhered to the card front with the left edge of the Soft Suede cardstock approximately 1/8" from the fold.  About one third of the way down from the top of the ribbon I added a knot of Victoria 5/8" Crochet Trim.

On top of Elizabeth, I place a piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock punched with the Scallop Oval punch and the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  Adhered to the center of the Pear Pizzazz oval is a piece of Soft Suede cardstock punched with the 1 3/4" x 7/8" oval punch and the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  Next is a layer of Very Vanilla cardstock; the "for you" image from the All Holidays stamp set stamped with Regal Rose ink and then punched out with the 1 3/8" x 5/8" oval punch and the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink.  A small flower of Pear Pizzazz was punched using the scallop circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack and the edges sponged with Soft Suede ink and then adhered to the upper left side of the Very Vanilla oval with a Mini Glue Dot.  A 3 mm (or 5 mm I can't remember which) Basic Pearl was placed at the center of the Pear Pizzazz scallop circle.  The Very Vanilla oval was adhered to the Soft Suede oval with Stampin' Dimensionals.

(click on card to see larger image)

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock that was stamped around the edges with the top filigree area of the Elizabeth stamp using Blushing Bride ink.  Then the edges of the cardstock were sponged with Soft Suede ink before adhering the cardstock to the inside of the card.

Elizabeth was stamped one final time with Blushing Bride ink at the lower left front corner of the Medium Very Vanilla envelope.  The "for you" image was stamped at the center of the open oval with Pear Pizzazz ink.  You'll note that the entire Elizabeth stamp image is not visible on the front of the envelope to ensure that enough space remains on the front of the envelope to write an address should this card be mailed.  Speaking of mailing, this card would be one of those that required hand cancelling by the Post Office because of the ribbon knot and the Basic Pearl; which means that extra postage is required.  But with a card this pretty, spending the extra 20 cents really isn't a problem.

Punchin' Up a Birthday

Hello!  Thanks so much for stopping by to visit!

Here's a fun card that we made at Sherry's Sale-A-Bration workshop last night.  It uses three of the items you can select for FREE with a qualifying order during these final few days of Sale-A-Bration.  AND if you place your Sale-A-Bration order through my Stampin' Up! storefront, you may qualify for a chance to win the Nature Walk stamp set (clear mount option with "D" acrylic block included)!  Just check out this post for more information.

We begin with a card base of Tangerine Tango.  Adhered to the bottom area of the card is a piece of Ice Cream Parlor Designer Series Paper.  Covering the "seam" between the Designer Series Paper and the card base is a strip of Daffodil Delight cardstock; the top and bottom edges punched with the Scallop Trim Border punch.  Wrapped around the card front and resting atop the Daffodil Delight cardstock is a piece of Whisper White 5/8" Satin ribbon.  A 1 3/8" circle was punched near the lower right corner of the card front to create a "window."  A piece of Pacific Point cardstock was punched first with the 1 3/8" circle punch and then the punched cardstock was inserted into the paper slot of the 1 3/4" scallop circle punch.  The punched circle was centered within the punch window of the 1 3/4" scallop circle punch and the cardstock punched again.  This created a frame that was adhered around the "window."

The fun and friendly owl from the Punch Bunch Sale-A-Bration stamp set was stamped twice on Whisper White cardstock using Chocolate Chip ink, then punched out with the 2-Step Owl punch.  The belly part of the owl was punched from two different pieces of the Ice Cream Parlor Designer Series Paper and adhered to each owl.  The owl for the card front was adhered above the Daffodil Delight cardstock near the upper left corner.  Then the birthday sentiment from the So Happy For You Sale-A-Bration stamp set was stamped to the right of the owl using Chocolate Chip ink.  Two branches were punched from Old Olive cardstock using the 2-Step Bird punch and adhered across the card front for the owl's perch.  Note that one of the leaf bundles points up toward the sentiment and one points down to the "window."

Punched_Birthday_Inside
(click on card to see larger image)

Inside the card, the sentiment area was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock and a narrow strip of Designer Series Paper was adhered along the left edge to bring the bright and fun colors from the card front to the inside of the card.

To make sure the second owl is placed properly in the "window," lay the closed card flat on the tabletop with the card front facing up.  Slide the second owl inside the card so that it shows through the "window."  When you're satisfied with the placement of the owl, make a tiny dot with your pencil tip on the Whisper White cardstock liner at the top of the owl in between its ears.  Open the card and apply adhesive to the back of the owl and replace it on the Whisper White cardstock liner so that the pencil dot is again located at the top of the owl and centered between the owl's ears.  Use a white gum art eraser to remove the pencil dot.  Punch another branch from Old Olive cardstock using the 2-Step Bird punch and adhere the branch to the Whisper White cardstock as a perch for the owl.

The lower left front corner of the Whisper White envelope features the birthday sentiment from So Happy For You stamped in Chocolate Chip and the owl image from Punch Bunch stamped in Tangerine Tango.

I just love the bright and happy colors found in the Ice Cream Parlor Designer Series Paper!  These colors combined with the owl and the whimsical font design just make this birthday card a great design for both young and old recipients.  There's only a couple more days left to take advantage of the great benefits available during Sale-A-Bration.  The Sale-A-Bration items featured in today's post are only available during Sale-A-Bration, so if you've had your eyes on any one or all of them, now is the time to place your order.  My Stampin' Up! storefront is open 24/7, just click on the Shop Online button located at the top left of the blog sidebar and then click on the Shop Now hotlink located at the lower right corner of my Stampin' Up! web page.

Birds, Bees, & Butterflies in Pastels

Hello!  Has Spring sprung in your part of the world yet?  Here in Central Florida, the temperatures are cool in the mornings (low 60s) and moderately warm in the afternoons (mid 80s).  The skies are bright blue, the azaleas are rioting in color, the oak trees are shedding their pollen pods, and the crepe myrtles are beginning to send out their leafy shoots.  Folks are beginning to clean up their yards from the effects of the Winter freezes and you can hear the mowers humming for the first time in a couple of months.  We treasure these few weeks of Spring--all too soon Summer weather will arrive and we won't see these mild temperatures again until November.

Here's a project I designed for the March meeting of the SASS Stamp Club.  As with the previous post, this project features soft Spring colors and the Sweet Summer Sale-A-Bration stamp set.

The base pages are Marina Mist Textured cardstock.  A strip of Rose Red cardstock was punched along one long edge with the Pinking Hearts Border punch.  These strips were adhered to the left and right edges, respectively, of the left and right base pages leaving approximately 1/8" of Marina Mist showing along the edge.  [Note that the punched borders point toward the center of each base page.]  A strip of Perfect Plum cardstock was then adhered to the center of the Rose Red cardstock.

Two strips of Whisper White cardstock were stamped with the three flower images from the Sweet Summer stamp set:  one flower using Rose Red ink, another with Perfect Plum ink, and the third with Marina Mist ink.  These flowers were covered with a mask created by stamping each flower on a Post-It Note, cutting out the image, and covering the associated image stamped on the Whisper White cardstock.  Once the masks were in place, the vine image was stamped randomly over the two pieces of Whisper White cardstock using Pear Pizzazz ink.  Then the masks were removed.

The flowers and dots on the vines were colored with Stampin' Pastels using a Blender Pen to transfer the color to the stamped images.  For these pages, the following Stampin' Pastel colors were used:  Rose Red, More Mustard, Marina Mist, and Perfect Plum.  Once the flowers were colored, the Whisper White cardstock was adhered to the Perfect Plum cardstock, aligning the top and bottom edges and centering between the left and right edges of the Perfect Plum cardstock.

Sweet_Summer_Embellishments
(click on embellishments to see larger image)

To carry the color scheme and whimsical design across the pages once the photos were added, small medallions were created to embellish the pages.  To begin, a piece of Whisper White cardstock was randomly stamped with the vine image using Pear Pizzazz ink.  In one area, the butterfly image was stamped using Rose Red ink.  The area of the Whisper White cardstock with the butterfly was inserted into the paper slot of a 1" circle punch, the butterfly and vine centered in the punch window, and punched out.  This punched circle was adhered to the center of a piece of Rose Red cardstock punched with the 1 1/4" circle punch.  The butterfly was colored with Rose Red Stampin' Pastels using the Blender Pen and then covered with Crystal Effects to give the butterfly some dimension and shine.  Once the Crystal Effects was dry, two Stampin' Dimensionals were placed on the back of the Rose Red cardstock.

The process for creating the remaining two embellishments is the same as for the butterfly:  the bird was stamped with Marina Mist ink and colored with Marina Mist Stampin' Pastels and the bee was stamped with Basic Gray ink and colored with Basic Black and Daffodil Delight Stampin' Pastels.

For the non-scrapbookers in the group, here are 3" x 6" cards made using the same process used for the scrapbook pages.

Sweet_Summer_3x6Sweet_Summer_3x6_Inside
(click on cards to see larger images)

Note that the border strips are centered in the middle of the card fronts with the punched border pointing toward the card opening.  The embellishments were scattered between the two cards:  the butterfly and bird on one card and the bee on the other.

The inside sentiment area of the cards were lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  These pieces were stamped with the vine image (using Pear Pizzazz ink) three times across the bottom of the liner.  The bird image was stamped to perch on one of the vines and colored with Marina Mist Stampin' Pastels and the Blender Pen.  The envelope flaps of the Small Open End Envelopes were randomly stamped with the vine image, again using Pear Pizzazz ink.

Welcome Spring!

Hi there!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

This year's Sale-A-Bration featured stamp sets are really fun and I've shown you a couple of workshop invitations using the Bliss stamp set.  However, I realized that I haven't shown you projects made with any of the others.  Bad Mickey!

So here's a card that just shouts "Spring!"  I just love this color combination of Perfect Plum, Regal Rose, and Pear Pizzazz.

Sweet_Summer_Thanks
(click on card to see larger image)

I haven't used my Watercolor Crayons in a while, so I began by stamping the three flower images from the Sweet Summer stamp set on Watercolor Paper with Staz-On Jet Black ink.  I added the bee image (Sweet Summer) to hover over the five-petal flower, also using Staz-On Jet Black ink.  Then I misted the paper with water and painted the left flower with Rose Red and More Mustard, the center flower with Perfect Plum and More Mustard, and the right flower with So Saffron and Rose Red.  The little bee over the Rose Red/More Mustard flower was pained with Basic Black and Daffodil Delight.  I set the watercolor paper aside to dry.

On the Perfect Plum card base, I stamped two rows of the vine image (Sweet Summer) using Perfect Plum ink.  A piece of Regal Rose cardstock was punched with the Scallop Edge Border punch and then layers of Pear Pizzazz and Whisper White cardstock were adhered on top of the Regal Rose cardstock.  This stack of cardstock was adhered approximately 1/2 inch from the top of the card front.  A piece of Perfect Plum cardstock was punched three times with the 1 3/8 inch square punch and these pieces were adhered to the Whisper White cardstock layer.  The "thanks" sentiment from the So Happy For You stamp set was stamped on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock using Regal Rose ink and punched out with the Word Window punch.  This was adhered to a piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock punched with the Modern Label punch.  The sentiment was adhered near the lower right corner of the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Once all that was finished, the watercolor paper was nearly dry and I finished up the drying with the Heat Tool.  Then I punched out each of the flowers with the 1 1/4 inch circle punch and adhered each circle to a square of Perfect Plum cardstock with Stampin' Dimensionals.  To give the bee some depth and shine, I covered him with Crystal Effects.

(click on card to see larger image)

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The vine image was stamped three times along the left edge of the Whisper White cardstock using Pear Pizzazz ink.  The butterfly image was stamped near the top of the vines using Perfect Plum ink to look like he's flitting about and the bird image was stamped near the bottom of the vines using Regal Rose ink to look like he is perched on one of the vines.

Sweet_Summer_Thanks_Envelope

The lower left front corner of the Whisper White envelope was decorated similarly to the inside sentiment area of the card.  The vine image was stamped with Pear Pizzazz, the butterfly with Perfect Plum, and the bird with Regal Rose.
