A Whimsical Note of Encouragement
08/04/2010
Hi! Thanks for visiting!
As promised, here's the first installment on how the projects for the Stampin' Addicts New Catalog Mega Blog Hop were made. This blog post focuses on the first project shown: the greeting card.
When I opened my new 2010-2011 Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalog, the first stamp set on my "had to have" list was Aviary. I just love whimsical designs and this one is just too cute! I immediately began to envision the projects I could make with the fun images.
For the greeting card, I used my favorite bird and bird cage images from this stamp set. Since they were small, it just seemed right to make a 3" x 6" card.

The card base is Wild Wasabi. Along the bottom of the card front I attached a piece of Rose Red/Pretty in Pink patterned paper from the Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Pack. But before I attached the top edge of the paper to the card base, I tucked in a sentiment from the Occasional Quotes (Level 3 Hostess) stamp set. This sentiment was inked with a Marina Mist marker, stamped onto Whisper White cardstock, and then punched with the Curly Label punch. You can see that I kept the sentiment in the upper half of the punch image. By the way, this sentiment image is actually one long image. I inked the first two words and stamped them, then cleaned the stamp, stamped the clean stamp on scrap paper a few times to remove the residual moisture from the stamp, then inked the remaining two words and stamped them below the first two words.
The punched image was matted with a piece of Marina Mist cardstock created with the Big Shot and the Curly Label Punch Window (Curly Label Bigz XL die). The edges of the Marina Mist cardstock were sponged with Marina Mist ink. Then the bottom, left and right edges of the patterned paper were sponged with Rose Red ink. The top edge of the patterned paper was covered with a strip of Rose Red cardstock punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon punch. (The edges of the Rose Red strip were sponged with Rose Red ink prior to adhering.)
The bird cage was stamped on Whisper White cardstock with Versamark, dusted with Gold Stampin' Emboss powder, and heat embossed. Once cooled, the bird was stamped with Rose Red to look like he's sitting on top of the hanging loop for the bird cage. A teeny tiny bow of Marina Mist 1/8" Taffeta ribbon attaches to the cage with a Mini Glue Dot. The Whisper White cardstock was sponged with Marina Mist ink and matted to a piece of Rose Red cardstock (edges sponged with Rose Red ink) and a piece of Bashful Blue cardstock (edges sponged with Bashful Blue ink). This piece was adhered to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The interior sentiment area of the card was lined with Whisper White cardstock; the edges sponged with Wild Wasabi ink. It features the corresponding sentiment from the Occasional Quotes stamp set stamped with Marina Mist ink. The medium bird cage was stamped with Rose Red ink and the medium sized bird image (stamped with Marina Mist ink) looks out.

This same bird cage/bird combination also decorates the lower left front of the Small Open End envelope that fits this size card.
Before I close, I just want to mention the new Patterns Designer Series Paper Packs. I am so tickled that Stampin' Up! created these paper packs! It always bothered me that you could only buy one color of patterned paper and only for a limited number of colors. I could never find enough uses for the entire pack of paper! OR the color of paper I needed wasn't available. I think these paper packs, featuring colors from the entire color family--Brights, Subtles, Regals, Neutrals, and the In Colors--are a much better idea and certainly a great "bang for the buck!"
Thanks so much for visiting. My next blog post will show how easily this 3" x 6" card becomes a scrapbook page, or two.
Looking forward to your next visit!
