Finding Surprises in Your Designer Series Paper

Hi there!  Are you ready for Summer?  Here in Central Florida, we are knee deep into the Summer season.  The sun is bright and glaring, the temperature is in the 90s, and the swimming pool is very inviting.

The last few weeks I've been working hard to clean up and purge my crafting supplies in order to consolidate all my STUFF into one room.  Over the weekend I took advantage of an opportunity to sell some of it at a local church and was somewhat successful.  The good news is that I brought back fewer boxes of stuff than I took there.  I still have more stuff to purge, but the process is well underway and I'm feeling a whole lot less overwhelmed than when I began.  My son and daughter-in-law will be here next week, so time is of the essence to empty that bedroom and make it habitable for their visit.  I think I'm beginning to feel some anxiety...so I decided to decompress for a few hours and make a few thank you cards for some folks who placed orders last week.

This card uses the Pink Flamingo Designer Series Paper.  I covered the Summer Sun card base with two pieces of the Designer Series Paper.  The sheet used for the top piece is an all over floral pattern that has flamingos and a cute Tempting Turquoise partridge-looking bird scattered among the flowers.  Depending on how you cut the paper, you may find one or more of these birds on your card front.  On this particular card, you'll find one of those Tempting Turquoise birds peeking out from behind one of the yellow flowers--a nice surprise among all the bright colors!  To add some dimension to the upper area of the card front, I added a Summer Sun Corduroy button threaded with red embroidery floss and attached to the Designer Series Paper with Mini Glue Dots.

The lower area of the card front has a single color, more sedate patterned piece of Designer Series Paper accented with a simple sentiment.  The sentiment was stamped in Tempting Turquoise on Whisper White cardstock punched with the Word Window punch and adhered to a piece of Cameo Coral cardstock punched with the Modern Label punch.  Real Red brads are placed at each end of the accent piece to tie it together with the colors in the upper area of the card front.  The sentiment piece was attached to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.  A sanding block was brushed along the outside edges of the card front to round the sharp edges of the Designer Series Paper and expose the white core of the paper.  A piece of Real Red 1/4" grosgrain ribbon was wrapped around the card front and knotted to hide the seam where the two pieces of Designer Series Paper meet.

A piece of the single color Designer Series Paper was adhered to the envelope flap.  Two 1/2" strips of the overall floral paper were placed on top of the single color paper.  Paper Snips were used to trim the paper pieces.

All in all, this was a very simple card to make; the Designer Series Paper did all the work!  That's the great thing about the Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper; you never have to worry about color coordination.  All the double-sided papers in each of these great collections coordinate so beautifully with each other.  I'm really sad to see the Pink Flamingo Designer Series Paper, Summer Sun and Cameo Coral cardstocks, and the corduroy buttons on the Retired Lists; but at the same time, I'm excited to see all the new color combinations that will be available with the implementation of the Color Renovation, new Designer Series Papers, and must-have accessories that will be available with the release of the new Idea Book and Catalog on July 1st.

REMINDER!!  If you have favorite colors that will be retiring on June 30th, time is running short to place your order for these items; and when they're gone, they're gone!  Also, don't forget to check the lists for the retiring stamp sets and Home Decor design elements.  These items won't run out, but they'll only be available until June 30th, so don't delay too long!  Links to the Retiring Lists are available on the left sidebar of my blog.  You are always welcome to contact me or use my on-line store to place your order.

Mickey, what a neat idea using the DSP on the OUTSIDE of the flap, rather than lining the envie. Very cool!

A pretty card, Mickey! Nice use of the button embellishment. I love your envelope flap, too!
