Just finished making a card for my father's 77th birthday. His birthday is tomorrow, July 1st. I was determined that this one would be ON TIME!! No "tardy turtle" for Dad, for Pete's sake!!
For this card I went to town with the Big Shot and Textured Impressions embossing folders. There are three folders used for this card: Vintage Wallpaper (Old Olive cardstock strip), Perfect Polka Dots (Cajun Craze cardstock strip), and Square Lattice (Not Quite Navy cardstock strip). The remaining strip of paper is from the Newsprint Designer Series Paper. I found it EXTREMELY serendipitous that there were two "7s" in the strip I cut for this card. How cool is that! So I punched a large oval from a scrap piece of cardstock and used that as a mask to apply some Cajun Craze ink over those "7s" to make them more visible and enhance that not-so-subtle mention of his age. Each of the cardstock strips were sponged with their corresponding ink colors and then the ink on the sponge was brushed over the embossed areas to create a more vintage feel. The edges of the Newsprint Designer Series Paper, Crumb Cake mat, and Naturals Ivory card base were sponged with Crumb Cake ink. I am SOOOO happy that we FINALLY have an ink to match my favorite Crumb Cake (formerly called Kraft) cardstock. The embossed cardstock strips and Newsprint strip were matted to a piece of Basic Black cardstock. I decided that there might be a few too many right angles on this card, so I rounded the corners of the Basic Black mat and the outside corners of the Newsprint strip and Not Quite Navy strip.
Two pieces of Basic Black 1/4" grosgrain ribbon were knotted and the ends threaded through the slots of a Styled Vanilla ribbon slide leaving the knot on top of the slide. The ribbon ends were tucked behind the Basic Black mat and pressed in place with SNAIL. A very sincere birthday wish was stamped on a piece of Naturals Ivory cardstock using Cajun Craze ink. The sentiment was punched out with the Large Oval punch and matted on a piece of Basic Black punched with the Scallop Oval punch and placed on the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
The envelope flap was embossed with the Vintage Wallpaper Textured Impressions embossing folder. Cajun Craze ink was sponged along the edges of the envelope flap and then brushed over the embossed areas.
Here's a shout out to my Dad, who continues to be a hero to his eldest daughter. I hope you have a wonderful birthday! I pray that we will share many, many more.
