Inky Friends Design Challenge #5 -- Sharing Sweet Thoughts

Hi There!

Welcome to Inky Friends Design Challenge #5.  Every 4th Friday of the month a new design challenge is posted.  This time around we are working with a design sketch from the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog on page 85 (lower right corner).

One of the cutest stamp sets in the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog is found on the inside back page of the catalog; the Sharing Sweet Thoughts stamp set.  It's this year's Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set, so the added benefit is that a portion of the sale of every stamp set goes to this great charity that supports sick children and their families.  I thought that a jar filled with butterflies would make a great focal point for this sketch challenge.

This card begins with a card base of Garden Green cardstock.  A piece of Wood Textures Designer Series Paper was matted with a slightly larger piece of Soft Suede cardstock and adhered at the center of the card front.  A piece of Soft Suede cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using the largest die (2-7/8" x 4-3/4") of the Lots of Labels Framelits and then embossed with the Big Shot using the Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folder.  This piece was adhered at the center of the card front using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.

The jar image was stamped on a piece of Window Sheets using Staz-On Jet Black ink and then die cut with the Big Shot using the large jar from the Everyday Jars Framelits.  The jar image was also stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Basic Black Archival ink.  The grass image was stamped twice near the bottom of the jar using Garden Green ink.  The branch image was stamped at an angle from the right bottom of the jar to the middle left side of the jar using Soft Suede ink.  The three butterfly image was stamped inside the jar above the branch image.  The branch image and butterflies were colored with the Blender Pen and the following ink colors:

  • Branch:  Soft Suede
  • Leaves:  Wild Wasabi with a touch of Garden Green for shading
  • Butterflies:  Tangerine Tango for the wing edges and dots; Daffodil Delight for the remainder of the wings; Basic Black Archival for the butterfly bodies

The jar was die cut with the Big Shot using the large jar from the Everyday Jars Framelits.  The jar die cut from the Window Sheets was adhered on top of the jar die cut from Whisper White cardstock using Mini Glue Dots placed at the top of the jar.

The dotted top jar lid was stamped on Silver Foil Sheets using Staz-On Jet Black ink and die cut with the Big Shot using the jar lid die from the Everyday Jars Framelits.  A piece of Silver Foil Sheets was die cut with the Big Shot using the jar handle die.  The jar lid was adhered to the top of the jar using Mini Glue Dots.  The jar handle was adhered behind the jar lid area of the Whisper White cardstock jar using Mini Glue Dots.  The completed jar was adhered at the upper center of the embossed Soft Suede cardstock at the center of the card front using Mulitpurpose Liquid adhesive.

The "Sharing sweet thoughts" sentiment was stamped on a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock using Basic Black Archival ink.  A piece of Tangerine Tango cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using the banner frame thinlit from the Bunch of Banners Framelits.  (Don't get rid of the banner inside the frame--you'll need that for the liner.)  The banner frame was adhered over the Daffodil Delight cardstock with the stamped sentiment using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.  Trim away the Daffodil Delight cardstock extending beyond the outside edges of the banner frame using Paper Snips.  The banner was adhered to the card front over the bottom area of the jar using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The three butterfly image was stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Basic Black Archival ink.  The butterflies were colored with the Blender Pen using the same colors used for the butterflies inside the jar.  The butterflies were cut out with Paper Snips.  One of the butterflies was adhered above the jar inside the jar handle using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals (hold onto the remaining two butterflies for the liner).

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The Tangerine Tango banner (the inside of the banner frame for the card front) was stamped with the "Always here for you" sentiment using Basic Black Archival ink.  The banner was adhered at the upper center of the liner.  The colored butterflies left over from the card front were adhered at the upper right and lower left corners of the banner using Mini Glue Dots.

A piece of Soft Suede cardstock was embossed with the Big Shot using the Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  A strip of Tangerine Tango cardstock was adhered behind the top edge of the embossed cardstock using Mulitpurpose Liquid adhesive and the two pieces adhered along the bottom of the liner using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive with the left, bottom, and right sides of the two pieces flush with the left, bottom, and right edges of the liner.

The three butterflies image was randomly stamped over the flap of the Medium Whisper White Envelope using Basic Black Archival ink.  [Tip:  Place a piece of scrap paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to ensure that the stamping is confined only to the envelope flap.]  The butterflies were colored with the Blender Pen and the colors identified above.

As a head's up, the following items used to make this card are on the Retiring Items List:  Sharing Sweet Thoughts stamp set, Tangerine Tango cardstock and Classic ink, Basic Black Archival ink, Wild Wasabi Classic ink, and the Lots of Labels Framelits for the Big Shot.  Unfortunately, the Lots of Labels Framelits are already sold out.  To purchase the Retiring Items that are still available, click on the Order Online button at the top of right sidebar of this blog page.

The good news is that the Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and Staz-On Jet Black ink will be available with the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog.  Hooray!

Are you inspired to create with this fun sketch??  I hope so!  And when you do, please share your creation with the Inky Friends!  Each challenge will run for two weeks and at the end we'll pick a winning project.  Here's how it works:

This is beautiful inside and out. Love the envelope too! The colors are so crisp and I love how you used the basket weave embossing folder. What a great stamp set and card. Just adorable!
