Bubble Over -- Thank You

Hello!

Today's post provides the how-to's for creating one of the cards designed for the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop featuring the Bubble Over stamp set.  To see a line up of all the Stampin' Up! artists who participated in the hop, click here.  To begin the hop, click here.

So many of the cards you see today feature a watercolor wash of some kind for the background.  I really like the soft look and the interest you can create by mixing colors, textures, and techniques.  For this card, I used emboss resist on watercolor paper that was washed with color created using a reinker.

BubbleOver_ThankYou

This card begins with a piece of watercolor paper swiped with the Embossing Buddy and then randomly stamped with the doodle circle image from the Bubble Over stamp set using Versamark ink.  The small heart image was stamped inside the doodle circles, also using Versamark ink.  The stamped images were covered with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and the excess tapped back into the container.  Then the embossing powder was melted with the Heat Tool.

Five to seven drops of Calypso Coral re-inker was added to about 3 tablespoons of water (I used an empty plastic button container) and stirred well with the Aquapainter.  Then the fun begins:

  1. The embossed watercolor paper was lightly spritzed with water
  2. A wet Aquapainter was dipped into the Calypso Coral and water mixture and then brushed across the watercolor paper to cover the paper.  The Aquapainter was repeatedly dipped into clear water and then into the reinker/water mixture and brushed across the watercolor paper until the desired color was achieved.  Note that the color will dry slightly lighter than it appears wet
  3. A damp Aquapainter was dipped into the reinker-water mixture and holding the brush tip over the watercolor paper, the brush was tapped lightly with the fingertip of the other hand to splatter drops of ink randomly over the watercolor paper.  Note that some drops will be larger than others.  In addition, be aware that the splatter will likely stray from the paper to adjacent areas of your work surface
  4. Clean the brush and then wet the brush with clear water and repeat the splatter process over the watercolor paper
  5. Allow the paper to dry
  6. Rub a clean, dry paper towel over the embossed areas of the watercolor paper to remove any ink from the clear embossing

The focal point was created with a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock die cut with the Big Shot using the larger rounded end label framelit from the Bottles & Bubbles Framelits and placing the larger cut out die across the inside center of the framelit to create cut-outs in the rounded ends of the label.  A piece of Basic Gray shimmer ribbon from the Shimmer Ribbon Combo Pack (a Sale-A-Bration item that will only be available for a couple more days...) was threaded through the cut outs, wrapped around the center of the watercolor paper, and the ribbon knotted to the left of the front of the watercolor paper.  If necessary, Mini Glue Dots can be placed behind the Calypso Coral cardstock to hold it in place.

The watercolor paper was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Gray cardstock and then adhered at the center of the card front.  The card base is made with Thick Whisper White cardstock.

A piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using the smaller round end label framelit.  The die cut was adhered over the center of the Calypso Coral label using Stampin' Dimensionals.  A piece of Basic Gray cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using the flattened bottle cap framelit and the die cut adhered at the center of the Whisper White label.  The "Thank You" greeting was stamped on a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock using Calypso Coral ink and punched out with the 3/4" circle punch.  The punched greeting was adhered at the center of the bottle cap die cut.

BubbleOver_ThankYou_Inside

The doodle circle image was randomly stamped along the left side of the inside sentiment area of the card using Basic Gray ink.  The heart image was stamped inside the doodle circles using Calypso Coral ink.

A piece of Calypso Coral cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using the larger rounded end label and adhered at the upper center of the inside sentiment area.  The "Your Kindness is most Refreshing" sentiment was stamped on a piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock and die cut with the Big Shot using the smaller rounded end label.  The Whisper White label was adhered at the center of the Calypso Coral label.

BubbleOver_ThankYou_Envelope

The doodle circle image was randomly stamped across the flap of the Medium Whisper White Envelope using Basic Gray ink.  [Tip:  Place a scrap of paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to contain the stamped images to the envelope flap.]  The heart image was stamped inside the doodle circles using Calypso Coral ink.

I hope that you'll consider creating your own watercolor wash backgrounds for your creative projects.  As you can see with this card, you probably already have all you need to begin the process.

As a reminder, Sale-A-Bration ends on Saturday, March 31st.  So now is the time to place your qualifying order to be able to earn those remaining items on your Sale-A-Bration Wish List for FREE.

Bubble Over -- Birthday Brew Bottle Tag

Hi There!

Today's post provides the how-to's for creating one of the cards designed for the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop featuring the Bubble Over stamp set.  To see a line up of all the Stampin' Up! artists who participated in the hop, click here.  To begin the hop, click here.

When I saw the Bubble Over stamp set and coordinating Bottles & Bubbles Framelits, I thought of bottle tags.  The great thing about gift tags of any kind is that they don't need to be complicated or fussy--they just need to be appropriate to the gift and/or gift packaging.  With the popularity of micro-brews--the unique names, flavors, and tastes, and the fun colors and labels of the bottles and bottle labels--you could have some creative fun making bottle gift tags.

For this bottle gift tag, I went with the only brew bottle I had in the house that wasn't for a traditional American brew (which is pretty much all my husband will drink).  We actually have this bottle because our local restaurant uses them for their house salad dressing and we keep forgetting to take it with us to get it refilled.  However, this bottle began it's life as a brew bottle from the Grolsch Brewery for their Premium Lager.

BubbleOver_BottleTag

The bottle tag begins with a 3" x 6" piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock scored at 2-1/8" along the 6" length.  A corner rounder punch (3/16" Retired) was used to round the corners of the tag.  The bubbles image, from the Bubble Over stamp set, was randomly stamped over the tag using Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, and Lemon Lime Twist inks.

A strip of Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper (Sale-A-Bration) was matted with a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock with the right and left edges of the Designer Series Paper flush with the right and left edges of the cardstock and the cardstock just a smidge wider than the strip of Designer Series Paper.  The panel was adhered across the tag front with the right and left edges of the panel flush with the right and left edges of the tag and the bottom of the panel 3/4" from the bottom edge of the tag.

The small bottle image was stamped on Whisper White cardstock with Lemon Lime Twist ink and then on another piece of Whisper White cardstock using Bermuda Bay ink.  The bottles were die cut with the Big Shot using the corresponding small bottle framelit.  The small bottle bottle cap framelit was used to die cut two bottle caps from Daffodil Delight cardstock.  The bottle caps were adhered at the top of the bottles using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.

The "Have a Birthday Brew" image was stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Bermuda Bay ink and die cut with the Big Shot using the small 6-sided label die.  The label was adhered to the Lemon Lime Twist bottle over the label area of the bottle.  The doodle circle image was stamped on Whisper White cardstock using Lemon Lime Twist ink and the heart image stamped inside the circle using Calypso Coral ink.  The images were die cut with the Big Shot using the small 6-sided label and the label adhered to the Bermuda Bay bottle over the label area of the bottle.  The bottles were adhered to the left side of the tag with the Lemon Lime Twist bottle slightly overlapping the Bermuda Bay bottle and the bottoms of the bottles 1/4" above the bottom edge of the tag.

A hole was punched near the top edge of the tag using the 1-3/4" circle punch with the top edge of the circle 5/8" from the top edge of the tag.  Paper Snips were used to cut a diagonal slit from the top of the tag into the top of the circle to facilitate placing and removing the tag.  A length of Lemon Lime Twist Mini Striped Ribbon was wrapped around the top neck of the bottle and tied into a bow.

As a reminder, there are only a few days left to earn your FREE Sale-A-Bration items so NOW is the time to place your order.  After March 31st, the Sale-A-Bration exclusive items will be gone for good (with the exception of the Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the Celebrate You Thinlits which will return in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog in June).

Project Measurements --

Thick Whisper White:  3" x 6" scored at 2-1/8" along the 6" length; Whisper White:  3 @ 1-1/2" x 3-1/2"; Daffodil Delight:  1" x 1-1/2"; Calypso Coral:  1-3/16" x 3"; Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper:  1-1/8" x 3"; Lemon Lime Twist Mini Stripe Ribbon:  17-1/2"

Inky Friends Design Challenge #4 -- Beautiful Bouquet

Hello!

Welcome to Inky Friends Design Challenge #4.  Every 4th Friday of the month a new design challenge is posted.  This time we are using a color combo of Blushing Bride, Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, and Pool Party.

ChallengePhoto

Using page 79 of the 2017-2018 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog for color inspiration, I created a birthday card using a stamp set that I purchased soon after the Annual Catalog went live last June but hadn't used yet.  This project includes one of the great Sale-A-Bration items, the Springtime Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper (one of the many great items you can earn for FREE with a qualifying order of $50 USD in Stampin' Up! merchandise).

BeautifulBouquet_HappyBirthday

This card begins with a card base of Pear Pizzazz cardstock.  A panel of Springtime Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper was brayered with Pool Party ink.  To do this, roll the Sponge Brayer forward over the Pool Party ink pad repeatedly and then roll the brayer across the Designer Series Paper in a forward and backward motion (like the letter "M" or "W") beginning off the edge of the paper and ending off the edge of the paper.  Re-ink the sponge brayer, and repeat the process until the white areas of the Designer Series Paper is covered in Pool Party ink.  Lightly rub a dry paper towel over the Designer Series Paper to remove the ink from the Silver embossed areas of the Designer Series Paper and to burnish the ink into the glossy white area of the Designer Series Paper.  The Designer Series Paper was matted with a slightly larger piece of Marina Mist cardstock and then adhered at the center of the card front.

The large spray of small flowers image from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set was stamped three times across the center of the Delicate White Doily using Blushing Bride, Marina Mist, and Pool Party inks (cleaning the stamp at each change of color).  The doily was adhered at the upper center of the Designer Series Paper with the top, left, and right edges of the doily 1/4" from the top, left, and right edges of the Designer Series Paper.

A piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using the bouquet of stems thinlit from the Bouquet Bunch Framelits and adhered over the doily.  A scrap of Marina Mist cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using the ribbon wrap thinlit and adhered at the neck of the bouquet of stems.

The small 6-petal flower was stamped 6 times on scraps of Whisper White cardstock using Pool Party ink for two flowers, Blushing Bride ink for two flowers and Marina Mist ink for two flowers.  The flowers were die cut with the Big Shot using the corresponding framelit from the Bouquet Bunch Framelits.

The large 6-petal flower was stamped 5 times on scraps of Whisper White cardstock using Blushing Bride ink for two flowers, Marina Mist ink for two flowers, and Pool Party ink for one flower.  The flower center image was stamped at the centers of each of the flowers using the corresponding ink color for each flower.  The flowers were die cut with the Big Shot using the corresponding framelit from the Bouquet Bunch Framelits.

The flowers were arranged over the bouquet of stems and adhered using Mini Glue Dots and Stampin' Dimensionals.  A tiny bow made with Silver 1/8" ribbon was adhered over the ribbon wrap die at the neck of the bouquet of stems using a rolled up Mini Glue Dot.

The "Happy Birthday" greeting was stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Marina Mist ink.  A banner tail was cut into the left side of the greeting using Paper Snips.  The greeting was matted with a slightly larger piece of Marina Mist cardstock (also including the banner tail) with the right sides of the banners flush.  The greeting was adhered at the lower right corner of the Designer Series Paper with the bottom edge of the banner 1/2" above the bottom edge of the Designer Series Paper.

BeautifulBouquet_HappyBirthday_Liner

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The three branch stem with two leaves image was stamped at the lower left corner of the liner using Pear Pizzazz ink.  The spray of 4-petal flowers image was stamped over the top of the stem using Blushing Bride ink.  The "I couldn't have picked a better friend than you" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of the liner using Pool Party ink.

A thin strip of Marina Mist cardstock was adhered behind the top edge of a strip of Springtime Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper brayered with Pool Party ink.  The strips were adhered along the bottom edge of the liner.

BeautifulBouquet_HappyBirthday_Envelope

The three branch stem with two leaves image was stamped at the lower left corner of the Medium Whisper White Envelope using Pear Pizzazz ink.  The spray of 4-petal flowers image was stamped over the top of the stem using Blushing Bride ink.  The "Happy Birthday" greeting was stamped near the bottom edge of the stem using Marina Mist ink.

Are you inspired to create with this color combination??  I hope so!  And when you do, please share your creation with the Inky Friends!  Each challenge will run for two weeks and at the end we'll pick a winning project.  Here's how it works:

  1. Every 4th Friday of the month a new sketch can be found on the Inky Friends blog by clicking HERE
  2. Because this is a color challenge, the colors you must use are Blushing Bride, Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, and Pool Party (you can use compatible colors and add neutrals as needed)
  3. Create something new that has not been posted before
  4. Post your creation on your blog or online gallery and please provide a link back to our challenge to the Inky Friends blog – provide a direct link to your project or post to the Linky which you can find at the END of our Inky Friends blog post
  5. YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS TO PLAY ALONG – then the challenge will be closed and WE PICK A WINNER – it could be you!

Bubble Over -- Have a Birthday Brew

Hello!

Today's post provides the how-to's for creating one of the cards designed for the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop featuring the Bubble Over stamp set.  To see a line up of all the Stampin' Up! artists who participated in the hop, click here.  To begin the hop, click here.

Do you have a group of folks that you find challenging to create for?  I do.  It's teens and young adults.  I think the Bubble Over stamp set and coordinating Bottles & Bubbles Framelits are a great choice for making cards for these age groups.  I haven't met a teen who didn't drink a soda or a young adult who didn't find an opportunity to grab a cold bottle depending upon the occasion.  Of course, all of the adults in my large Irish family seem to find ample opportunity to grab a brew (or will create the opportunity, if necessary).  All that being said, you can see that this bundle is perfect for me.

BubbleOver_HaveABirthdayBrew

This card begins with a Lemon Lime Twist card base from the Tutti-Frutti Cards & Envelopes; an item that will only be available until the end of Sale-A-Bration on March 31st.  A strip of Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper (another Sale-A-Bration item that will be gone for good on March 31st) was matted with a slightly larger piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock with the right and left ends of the cardstock and Designer Series Paper flush.  A piece of Bermuda Bay Mini Chevron ribbon was wrapped around the left end of the strips and tied in a knot on the front.  The strips were adhered across the card front with the bottom edge of the Bermuda Bay mat 1-1/8" above the bottom edge of the card front.

The large bottle image, from the Bubble Over stamp set, was stamped on four pieces of Whisper White cardstock using Calypso Coral ink for two pieces of cardstock, Daffodil Delight ink for one piece of cardstock, and Bermuda Bay ink for the final piece of cardstock.  The bottles were die cut with the Big Shot using the large bottle framelit from the Bottles & Bubbles Framelits.

The bottle image was inked with Calypso Coral ink and the label area of the bottle stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, this process was repeated with Daffodil Delight ink two times, and Bermuda Bay ink.  The "Have A Birthday Brew" greeting was stamped over the Calypso Coral label area using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The circle with star image was stamped at the center of one of the Daffodil Delight label areas.  The label areas were cut out with Paper Snips and the labels adhered over the die cut bottles:  Calypso Coral label to the Daffodil Delight bottle, blank Daffodil Delight label to the Bermuda Bay bottle, Bermuda Bay label to the Calypso Coral bottle, and circle with star stamped Daffodil Delight label to the second Calypso Coral bottle.

Three small pieces of Silver Foil Sheets were die cut with the Big Shot using the large bottle cap framelit.  The bottle caps were adhered at the top of the Calypso Coral/Bermuda Bay label, Bermuda Bay/Daffodil Delight label, and Daffodil Delight/stamped Calypso Coral label bottles using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.  The fourth bottle is set aside for the inside of the card.

The Calypso Coral/Bermuda Bay label bottle was adhered to the card front with the bottom of the bottle 1-3/8" above the bottom of the card front, the Bermuda Bay/Daffodil Delight label bottle was adhered to the card front with the bottom of the bottle 1" above the bottom of the card front, and the Daffodil Delight/stamped Calypso Coral label bottle was adhered to the card front with the bottom of the bottle 1-3/4" above the bottom of the card front.

BubbleOver_HaveABirthdayBrew_Inside

A piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock was die cut with the right pointing straw framelit and adhered behind the remaining bottle.  The bottle was adhered near the left side of the inside sentiment area of the card with the bottom of the bottle 1/4" from the bottom of the card.  The bubbles image was stamped to the upper right of the tip of the straw using Lemon Lime Twist ink.  The "May your day bubble over with happiness." sentiment was stamped to the right of the top of the bottle using Lemon Lime Twist ink.

BubbleOver_HaveABirthdayBrew_Envelope

The bubbles image was randomly stamped across the envelope flap of the coordinating Lemon Lime Twist envelope, from the Tutti-Frutti Cards & Envelopes, using Lemon Lime Twist ink.

The color coordination for this card was so simple as I used the colors in the strip of Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper on the card front -- making this card quick and easy to complete.

There are only a few days left of Sale-A-Bration and so many great items to choose from.  If you still have Sale-A-Bration items on your Wish List, now is the time to place your order to earn them.

Also, the Retiring List for the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog will be released very soon.  This means that there are In Colors that will be retiring and historically these items are the first to disappear.  If you have purchased the 2016-2018 In Color ink pads of Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach, and/or Sweet Sugarplum NOW is the time to purchase your re-inker to ensure that you can continue to use these colors.  In addition, accessories that contain any of these colors will also retire:  cardstock, Designer Series Paper, ribbons, etc.

Card Measurements --

Whisper White:  4 @ 1-1/2" x 3-1/2", 1-1/2" x 5-1/2"; Bermuda Bay:  1-3/8" x 4-1/4"; Silver Foil Sheets:  3 @ 1/2" x 1; Daffodil Delight:  1" x 3-1/2"; Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series Paper:  1-1/4" x 4-1/4"; Bermuda Bay Mini Chevron Ribbon:  8"
