Inky Friends Design Challenge #3 -- Happy Wishes

Hello!

Welcome to Inky Friends Design Challenge #3.  Every 4th Friday of the month a new design challenge is posted.  This time we are working from a card sketch used for a project featured on page 10 of the 2018 Occasions Catalog.

I decided to turn the sketch orientation from landscape to portrait using one of the great Sale-A-Bration stamp sets, Happy Wishes (one of the many great items you can earn for FREE with a qualifying order of $100 USD in Stampin' Up! merchandise), for the greeting focal point.

You may think that I messed up and used a Black & White photo; however, this card is actually monochromatic in black and white to feature the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper for the floral accents above and below the greeting focal point.

This card begins with a card base of Thick Whisper White cardstock.  A panel of Whisper White cardstock was stamped with the Brushstrokes background stamp using Smoky Slate ink--the ink stamped off on a scrap of paper before stamping on the cardstock.  One edge of a strip of Smoky Slate cardstock was punched with the Ticket Tear Border punch and adhered across the Whisper White cardstock with the top edge of the strip 2-7/8" below the top edge of the Whisper White cardstock.  Basic Black Baker's Twine was wrapped three times around the Whisper White panel and Smoky Slate cardstock and tied into a bow on the right side.  The panel was then adhered at the center of the card front.

Floral images were cut from a sheet of Petal Passion Designer Series Paper using Paper Snips.  The larger image was adhered above the Smoky Slate strip and along the left side of the background panel.  The smaller image was adhered below the Smoky Slate strip and along the right side of the background panel.

A piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock was punched with the Banner Triple punch at both ends and then stamped with the "best" image from the Happy Wishes stamp set using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The greeting focal point was adhered across the card front immediately above the Baker's Twine using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The "wishes" image was stamped near the lower right corner of the background panel using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

The "wishing you a", "happy", and "birthday" images were stamped at the upper center of the inside of the card base using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  [Tip:  I used the Clear Mount set of Happy Wishes.  The benefit is that I could place all three of the images on the same acrylic block to ensure correct stamp placement prior to stamping on the cardstock.]

HappyWishes_BestWishes_EnvelopeFlap

For the envelope, I'm sharing a couple of different ways to embellish the Medium Whisper White Envelope.  The first is adhering a piece of Petal Passion Designer Series Paper to the envelope flap and trimming off the excess with Paper Snips using the envelope flap as a guide.

The second features the Brushstrokes background stamp along the left side of the envelope front.  The background stamp was inked with Smoky Slate ink, stamped off on a scrap piece of paper and then stamped onto the envelope.  The "birthday" and "wishes" images were stamped at the lower left front corner of the envelope using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Are you inspired to create with this fun sketch??  I hope so!  And when you do, please share your creation with the Inky Friends!  Each challenge will run for two weeks and at the end we'll pick a winning project.  Here's how it works:

  1. Every 4th Friday of the month a new challenge can be found on the Inky Friends blog by clicking HERE
  2. Because this is a sketch challenge, you must follow the posted sketch; however, you can choose to change the orientation of the sketch (as I did)
  3. Create something new that has not been posted before
  4. Post your creation on your blog or online gallery and please provide a link back to our challenge to the Inky Friends blog – provide a direct link to your project or post to the Linky which you can find at the END of our Inky Friends blog post
  5. YOU HAVE TWO WEEKS TO PLAY ALONG – then the challenge will be closed and WE PICK A WINNER – it could be you!

I can't wait to see what you'll make!
