Peace This Christmas -- A Remake

Hi There!

I hope that you had a good week and are looking forward to a fun Summer weekend.  In this area, there's lots of Back To School shopping going on as the kids are returning to school in a couple of weeks.

Today's post is a remake of a Christmas card that I designed for my Stamp Clubs last year using the Peace This Christmas stamp set--you'll see that card at the bottom of this post.  Fortunately, this stamp set carried over to the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog as I just love the images and script used for this stamp set.  The card you see here is identical in design to the one made in 2016.  The remake replaces Retired items with Current items--I'll identify those when you see the original card.

When I design Christmas cards, I look for a simple design that lends itself to easy reproduction but still contains lots of pretty eye-catching elements.  If the card is mail-able with one stamp that's a huge bonus.  I think this card hits all the criteria.

This card begins with a card base of Cherry Cobbler cardstock.  A piece of Be Merry Designer Series Paper was adhered along the left side of a panel of Garden Green cardstock with the top, left, and bottom edges of the Designer Series Paper 1/8" from the top, left, and bottom edges of the panel.

The "Peace Joy & Love" image was stamped on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Cherry Cobbler ink.  The evergreen sprig was stamped below the "Love" using Garden Green ink.  The cardstock was die cut with the Big Shot using a plain edge oval die (2-3/8" x 3-1/4") from the Layering Ovals Framelits.  The plain oval was matted with a Cherry Cobbler scallop oval die cut with the Big Shot using the corresponding scallop oval layering die (2-5/8" x 3-1/2") from the Layering Ovals Framelits.  The same scallop oval die was used to die cut a piece of Gold Foil Sheets.  This die cut was adhered behind the Cherry Cobbler die cut so that 1/8" of the Gold Foil scallop oval extends beyond the left side of the Cherry Cobbler scallop oval.  The oval layers were adhered to the card front centered between the left and right sides and just a smidge above center (the bottom edge of the Cherry Cobbler scallop oval is 1" above the bottom edge of the Garden Green mat.

The Embossing Buddy was swiped across a piece of Whisper White cardstock and the pine cone image stamped on the cardstock twice using Versamark ink (re-inking the stamp prior to stamping the second time).  The images were covered in Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder, the excess tapped back into the container, and the powder melted with the Heat Tool.  The pine cones were cut out with Paper Snips.  The stems of the pine cones were adhered at the center of the evergreen sprig using Mini Glue Dots.  A piece of Gold 1/8" ribbon was tied into a bow and adhered over the top of the stems using a rolled up Mini Glue Dot.

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The "May all your Christmas wishes come true" sentiment was stamped at the upper center of the liner using Cherry Cobbler ink.  The sprig of mistletoe tied with a bow image was inked with the brush tip of the Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Write Marker for the mistletoe, Garden Green Stampin' Write Marker for the bow, and Wild Wasabi Stampin' Write Marker for the greenery.  The image was stamped to the left of "May".  [Tip:  When inking images with Stampin' Write Markers, be sure to "huff" on the stamp to remoisten the ink prior to stamping.]

The sprig of mistletoe tied with a bow was stamped at the center of the Medium Whisper White Envelope flap using the same inks as used for the liner.

Here is the card I designed for the Stamp Clubs in 2016.

It's pretty easy to identify the differences:

  • The This Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper used for the 2016 card is now Retired (2016-2017 Annual Catalog)
  • The card base, panel, and focal point mat colors are reversed as the Designer Series Paper for the 2016 card had a Garden Green background color and the Designer Series Paper for the 2017 card has a Cherry Cobbler background
  • The cardstock used for the focal point, pine cone, and liner (not shown) is Very Vanilla
  • The envelope used for the 2016 card (not shown) is Very Vanilla
  • The Stampin' Write Marker used for the greenery on the sprig stamped on the liner and envelope flap (not shown) uses Mint Macaron ink which is now Retired

The Be Merry Designer Series Paper has background sheets in Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green.  So if you decided to use a predominantly Garden Green background paper all you need to do is swap the card base, large panel, and focal point mat colors.  That gives you the potential for quite a few cards when you purchase the Designer Series Paper and the coordinating cardstock package.
