Any Occasion -- It's a Boy (Gift Card Holder)

It's a pretty chilly day here in East Central Florida.  We'll have our day or two of Winter and then settle back into the more reasonable temperatures.  But for right now the heater's on and we're shivering and trying to understand why there's bright sun and no warmth.

Today's post is a follow-up to last weekend's Stampin' Addicts Sale-A-Bration Blog Hop to discuss the new baby gift card holder.  [If you haven't had a chance to go through the hop to see all the great ideas using Sale-A-Bration stamp sets, be sure to do so.  To begin the hop, click here.]

I learned to make this card from my Stampin' Up! upline, Catherine Harwood, at a team training event last November.  The card we made for that event had a Christmas theme, but the card design lends itself to Any Occasion (Sale-A-Bration stamp set reference intended...).

I don't make baby cards very often as my children are pretty much done having children and my friends and relatives are not in active baby mode right now.  But when I saw the "It's A Boy" and "It's a Girl" sentiments with the Any Occasion Sale-A-Bration stamp set I really wanted to find a way to use one of them without hanging them from the banner string.  Then I remembered that I had purchased the Baby's First Framelits and realized that the "It's A Boy" sentiment would fit across the die cut onesie.  Now it was just a matter of finding the right paper to put it all together.

I have always liked the concept of Little Star with new babies, so I chose the Seaside Shore and coordinating By the Shore Designer Series Paper for this card because of the adorable starfish images and the soft colors of the Designer Series Paper.  You have the nice pastel look that isn't too girly for a baby boy card.

This card begins with a piece of Dapper Denim cardstock cut to 4-1/4" x 11" and scored and folded at 5-1/2" along the 11" length.  Then the card front was folded into the inside of the card so that the bottom edge of the card front rests just next to the center center fold line but DOES NOT cross the fold line or rest on top of it.  This is done so that the card can close easily.  Be sure to use the bone folder to make those folds nice and crisp.  The card front folds are opened up and the bottom edge of the card front is inserted into the Classic Label punch so that the bottom edge goes all the way into the paper slot and the left side of the card front is flush along the outside edge of the punch.

Punch the label and then slide the cardstock over so that the right side of the cardstock is flush with the right side of the punch and the paper is still all the way inside the paper slot.

Punch the label.  Place Tear & Tape adhesive along the right, left, and bottom edges of the area punched, but DO NOT go over the fold line.

Remove the adhesive covers and fold the punched area over making sure that the right and left edges are flush.

A piece of Mint Macaron bubble patterned paper was adhered to the Dapper Denim card front.  A piece of Calypso Coral starfish patterned paper was adhered to a slightly larger piece of Mint Mararon cardstock.  Very Vanilla 1/4" Satin ribbon was wrapped around the panel and knotted on the left side of the panel just below center.  The "It's A Boy" image from the Any Occasion stamp set was stamped on a piece of Dapper Denim ombre paper and die cut with the Big Shot using the onesie framelit from the Baby's First Framelits.  The Dapper Denim Stampin' Write Marker was used to make the "shoulder seams" and "stitching" around the neck, sleeves, and legs of the onesie.  The onesie was attached to the right side of the panel using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The panel was attached to the cardfront using Tear & Tape Adhesive ONLY on the part of the panel that is attached to the card front.

The inside sentiment area was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.  The banner string image was stamped at the left center of the liner using Dapper Denim ink.  The "Congratulations" sentiment was stamped to hang from the banner string using Calypso Coral ink.  The small banner image was stamped next to the "C" and "S" on the banner string using Mint Macaron ink and the small starfish image, from the Seaside Shore stamp set, was stamped at each end of the banner string to anchor the banner to the liner.  The small and large starfish images, from the Seaside Shore stamp set, were randomly stamped over the left side of the liner using Mint Macaron and Calypso Coral inks, stamping off the images before stamping on the liner.

Here's what the inside of the card front looks like with the gift card inserted in the punched slot.

Stamped elements of the liner were repeated for the envelope.

The banner string image was stamped at the center of the Medium Very Vanilla Envelope flap and then to the right and left side of the center banner using Dapper Denim ink.  The small starfish image, from the Seaside Shore stamp set, was stamped where sections of the banner string meet using Dapper Denim ink.  The "Congratulations" sentiment was stamped to hang from the center banner string using Calypso Coral ink.  The mini banner image was stamped along the right and left banner strings using Mint Macaron ink.

I really like this card design for a gift card holder and plan to use it frequently as gift cards seem to be the gift of choice for most occasions.  Think about all the scraps of Designer Series Paper you have that would work on the panels of this design, the great sentiments of the Any Occasion Sale-A-Bration stamp set, and you can have a stack of gift card holders ready to go in no time at all!  The best part is that during Sale-A-Bration, the Any Occasion stamp set is FREE with a purchase of $50 USD in Stampin' Up! merchandise.  [Hint:  The Seaside Shore stamp set is $21.00 for Clear Mount, the By the Shore Designer Series Paper $11.00, and the Classic Label punch is $18.00 which just happens to add up to $50.]

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!  Stay warm!
